LeeliParticipantI vote C. I have a soft spot for animals, and I think that the dragon deserves a chance. I'm big on taming wild animals, and humane treatment.

Her breath shuddering in her throat, the girl’s mind raced as she tried to think of what to do. At first she thought she might lunge for the dragon and fight it, but then she realized the state the wall behind her was in. If she were to get shoved against the rune and destroy it, the consequences could be—catastrophic. Swallowing hard, the girl slowly leaned down and held out a trembling bare hand to the dragon as it snuffled in her limp cloak.
Chirping, the dragon raised its ochre-colored head, yellow eyes gleaming with interest, and reached out to her. A forked tongue shot out of its mouth, and it was all the girl could do to not yank her hand away. Eventually, though, the dragon purred and looked up at her, pressing its triangular head into her palm. Immensely relieved, the girl carefully stroked the dragon along its spiky neck, chuckling as she heard it let out a series of pleased clicks.
“Hey, little guy,” she greeted the dragon as its thin tail snaked along the ground. “I’m Caroline. Nice to meet you.” Her face split into a grin as she heard the dragon mewl back, almost feline and avian in its speech.
Thank goodness this had worked—she wasn’t sure what she would have done otherwise. Determinedly not thinking about it, Caroline let her stance relax a little and turned back to the rune. Dipping her bare hand in the potion again, she smiled as she heard the dragon cavort around behind her, clearly feeling much safer than before.
However, she froze in terror once she saw her hand.
Right in spot where the dragon’s tongue had touched her was a tiny patch of gleaming silver scales. Terrified, Caroline nearly dropped the potion bottle, only catching it at the last second as she tried to scrub the scales away on the hem of her tunic. Where had that come from? What kind of powers did this dragon hold?
What would happen if this spread?
Trying to shy her mind away from the scales, Caroline concentrated on the task at hand. After a few more moments of careful tracing, she had just about filled the rune carving in entirely. Taking in a deep breath, Caroline dabbed in the last drops of the blue potion. Immediately the rune blazed with light, forcing Caroline to shield her eyes. Excitement poured through her body as she imagined what she could do now, what she would be able to reach with this rune's power.
But just when she was about to receive It fully, a wailing sound came from outside. Distracted, Caroline whipped around and was shocked to her core when she saw the seemingly solid wall ripple and bend, and in another second it had snapped forwards to release a human figure from it. They skidded across the concrete floor, crashing into the wall and abruptly cutting off the glowing light, and Caroline watched with horror as it faded to darkness once more. The dragon squealed in fright and jumped onto Caroline’s shoulder, clinging on with sharp claws as it cowered on her. Outrage exploded in the girl’s mind as the figure unsteadily rose to their feet, stumbling slightly. She raised her hand, about to strike him for his foolishness.
That was when she saw the patches of gold scales splotched across his body, and his reptilian-like slitted green eyes.
What should she do next?
A. Ask him “Who are you?”
B. Set the dragon to attack him
C. Ask him “Where did you get those scales?”
D. Try to reactivate the runes and ignore the boy
