The boy’s breath rasped in his throat, heavy and ragged. He looked like he had been running for a very long time; Caroline could only guess at from whom. Suddenly his head jerked up and his cat-slitted eyes stared right at her, wide and terrified. The first question that popped into her mind, and thus fore came out her mouth, was, “What are those scales about?” For a moment the boy’s eyes remained on her, silent, and Caroline wondered whether he knew how to speak or not.
“Dragon-tongue…” he whispered abruptly, his hand twitching so the golden-scaled claw flashed in the dim light. “Did it to me. Do ya not know?” His voice had a vague accent, almost unrecognizable except for the lilt on certain words.
“Dragon-tongue?” Caroline asked hesitantly, unconsciously clenching her silver-scaled hand. The boy gave an enormous sigh and sank to the stone, claws running through his tousled dark hair. “Um… what’s that?”
“The curse of my people,” he snapped, suddenly annoyed. Only then did Caroline notice the cuts and scratches lacing his body, mostly healed but still red-raw. A sick feeling rose in Caroline’s throat, but she didn’t move to help him. “Except I’m the only one who sees it as a curse.” His head jerking up, he glanced around the rounded walls, tongue swiping around his jaws. Caroline shifted nearly imperceptibly to cover the ochre dragon, who hadn’t moved since. Perhaps they recognized the boy?…
“Who are you, anyways?” the boy asked, eyes sharp as flint. Caroline jolted, then gave an concise answer.
“I-I’m Caroline Mistral, Facet 3 and District 2. I… I came here for my own reasons.”
“You’re not lyin’?” the boy asked suspiciously, eyeing her. Caroline shook her head, as she hadn’t lied—or at least told what she thought needed to be said. The boy looked like he was about to continue, and Caroline had her own questions as well, when the dragon moved behind her. Poking its tawny-colored nose out from behind her legs, the dragon let out a huff of steam, but froze as it and the boy’s eyes met.
Instantly he let out a yowl of fear and skittered away, while the dragon’s eyes narrowed in rage. A deep growl resounded in its throat, and with a louder roar it launched itself at the boy.
What should she do next?
A- Do nothing
B- Protect the boy (i.e. jump in front of the dragon’s attack)
C- Try to pull the dragon away
D- Attack him as well

CamelotOoh; I love both B and C, but my first choice would be C. My reasons are this: We don't know why the dragon is trying to attack the boy yet; perhaps they know each other for some reason or another. Maybe the dragon will listen to the girl better, and calm down. -

RaeParticipantC. Even if the boy is trying to hurt her, she can always just set the dragon on him later. Or can she…? But still, I choose C.

GreenMangoParticipantHmm, I'm seeing a pattern in my choices here. Or maybe it's not my choices, but the answer choices themselves. Like all of the Ds lead to certain doom or something? Or maybe I'm just too suspicious, because this is my third C in a row.
