Rogue WildlingParticipantSerpent~
The bonegum is thin today. It's been thin for a while, but especially thin today.
And you know why, Serpent. The voice in my head whispers.
Yes, I do, and it's not good. I reply. Suddenly, a familiar white glow flashes before my eyes, blinding me entirely. Premonitions aren't great either, I think.
But they are part of you, the voice says before a ringing fills my ears.
It's very light here, wherever I am. The water is warmer, too. Is this the daylight zone? Hmm. Interesting. The bonegum is more plentiful here, but it's still patchy in places. I hear voices. Far off, but quickly drawing nearer.
"I think I see something up ahead!" A masculine voice. They've spotted me. Or, maybe the me that just ducked behind a sandbar. "Where'd it go?" That's right, I forgot that they can't see the me that's having the premonition. That me behind the sandbar is a future me. Glad to see I'm still alive by then.
I snap back to reality. Disappointed, I grumble to the voice. At least show me something useful.
Oh, but didn't I?
Not really.
But you know where you have to go now, right? I sigh.
Up.
Yep! Go slowly, though. The journey should take a couple of days.
Why?
You're a deep-sea creature, Serpent. You could literally explode if your mortal body doesn't have time to adjust to the different pressure levels. I cock an eyebrow.
Fascinating. But I'll be able to go down again just fine, right?
Yes. We Great Serpents have researched it thoroughly- I mock the voice by moving my hand like a mouth. It falls silent, probably planning a witty retort for my 'childish behaviour.'
~~
So she calls the white stuff 'bonegum,' just FYI, and she has a Great Serpent in her head (See backstory). WOOT MY CHARRIE IS IN. SANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNE!!

Ella StarburstParticipantusually, Vicky would be playing by the rocks, or hanging out with other Jae, maybe even daydreaming about the shore she so longed to see. But today, she was beyond cheering up.
She had been chosen to go to the serpents lair. Ask if they would not come to destroy them. Fins of Pearl, how she despised everything about this! She wanted to go away, to flee back to her home that she had to abandon so long ago. She wanted to be anywhere but here, anywhere but where she was.
So she fled.
As soon as they told her the news, she began to cry. She knew it was hopeless for herself, and she began to realize they would all die. She knew she had to get away from it all, so she fled. she swam away. Away from the knowledge that she would never get her people to shore. She didn't know where she would go, just away.

Yes! Yes! YES!!! This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me! I’m going with Vicky to meet the serpents! This will be so fun!!! Oh my scales, I wonder what they look like! What color? How big?
I’m prancing around the camp with happiness when I see Vicky swimming away fast. It’s hard to tell, but she looks unhappy. Why could she be unhappy? She just got chosen for the most important mission of the century! Still, I follow her to see if I can cheer her up.
I chase her for over an hour before catching up. She’s sitting on a rock sobbing. Sobbing?! What under the sea could make my cousin so upset?
”What’s wrong?” I ask her.
She sniffles. “The mission is hopeless. No way are the serpents gonna listen.”
”No it isn’t!” I protest. “It’ll be so fun! Meeting the other tribes, exploring new places, and meeting those serpents! It’s so exciting!”
”I guess,” Vicky admits. She smiles, but I can tell it’s a fake smile.
”Do you want to go back to camp?” I ask her.
”No thanks. I’ll stay out a little longer.”
”Suit yourself.” I turn away and swim back toward the camp.

Ella StarburstParticipantI reached my spot, away from it all. It was a cavern of whistlefood-That's what I called the white stuff- and a few things that I had found that had dropped off from the shore. It was proof for my theory that there was life up there, life with tools, life with legs and knowledge and life that could be willing to help us.
The first thing I found was a crushed up cylinder. blue-ish with white specks. It was hard and had a sharp edge I cut myself on multiple times. I trained myself to use it as a weapon. It had odd tasting water in it. Maybe the life up there thought it was tasty? It defintly made the whistlefood taste better.
Another thing I had: an emptied out round cylinder, blue, with weird designs all over it. It even had a handle! I had poked eyeholes through it as a helmet.
My favorite of all: a neck rope! that's what i called it, anyway. It looked stunning: pretty rocks, multiple chains, and really, REALLY LONG! I loved to put it on and act pretty and loved, like a Taxad or a Brayza, or anyone but a Jae.
Today, though, I wasn't in the mood to play or train. I had a job to do. I had been planning this for my entire life. I packed all my stuff into the helmet-holder, which I had about ten of, and almost forgot my notes. I swam faster than…a fast swimming Taxad. As soon as I arrived at our village, I swamm above the rocks and above everyone.
"KOLETS AND BRAYZAS, JAE'S OF ALL AGES! I HAVE A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!"
Today was the day.
the day I would convince the tribes to seek the shore.
-
JithTOPperParticipant~Ashva
What the –
I looked up to see a blue skinned teenager, slightly older than I, above the camp.
"Uh," I said. 'are you looking for your fellow Jaeans? They're all out white-stuff hunting. They were looking for you, but you seem to have . . .not noticed."
"Oh." She swims cown to me, blue skin reddening. "OK. Why are you here?"
"Uh. I don't know. I got some news which was sort of upsetting and I just needed to get away from my camp. I'm Taxadian, by the way. My name's Ashva Oril."
"Cool. I'm Vicky."
We are both silent for a moment.
"was the news about the serpent thing? Are you going?"
"Yeah. It was. I'm so angry; my tribe leader didn't even tell us how we were supposed the keep them from coming. And – And – this might sound silly, but I want to find . . . land."
Vicky's eyes lit up. "So do I! That's what I was going to tell the village, that we need t find land instead of just going deeper into the sea; it would take us a while to re-adapt to, like, breathing air, but we could do it!"
I think for a moment about the The Shore. There's tons of life there. All of us – I don't know how many kids are going – could start a new life there, meet our ancestors – Martus says the landmen are our ancestors –
"Tell you what," I say. "How about halfway through the journey, maybe sooner, we tell the other kids about what we – uh- wanna do. If you do this now, the grownups won't let you. Though I guess you basically are grown up."
Vicky smiles. "That will work. You're probably right. I mean, do they really expect us not to come back or run away or something?? A band of kids heading out into the ocean on a dangerous and pointless mission aren't neccesarliy going to come back."
~~~
Hope this is OK!
Ella StarburstParticipantYES THAT'S GREAT THANK YOU!
*********************
Woops, I made a mistake. But I guess that's just the way the rock crumbles, and anyway, I met Ashva! I'm glad I met him; He's really smart and wise, and he wants to see the shore just as much as I do!
Suddenly, I noticed a thing above us. It was greyish-white, and had six holes in it. I recognized it's color immediately.
"Look, Ashva, whistlefood!" I point to the scrap above us.
He looks confused. "Whistlefood?" he asks.
I stare at him for a bit, then realize my mistake.
"Oh, it's," I say swimming up to the whistlefood, "what I call the, uh, white stuff."
"But why Whistlefood? It doesn't whistle, or look like a whistle, Whistles don't even loo-"
"It just sounds nice and whimsical!" I retort grinning, swimming down with the scrap and tearing it in half, "Here! Try some!"
I hand some to Ashva, who looks at it oddly. "I'll…save it for later," he remarks, putting it down.
I tear some off with my teeth. It's stretchy! And, as It find out when I stuff it in my mouth, chewy and bitter. I swallow it reluctantly.
"Mmm, it's…" I struggle for a word, "…interesting. Oh!" I take out the can of odd liquid.and start to open it a bit. Then I look at Ashva.
"Open your mouth," he obliges. I get the can really close to his face, then open and close it. He closes his mouth right after the liquid enters his mouth.
"How does it taste?"
JithkeeperParticipant~Rilaf
They're casting lots right now. I don't particularly want to go, as I have so much to do here: practicing my fighting skills, listening the Yartha's stories, guarding the North Border. But if it's for the good of Brayza, I guess it's worth it.
I'm standing outside the Council cave, where the elders are deciding who will go. A few other people are here too, mostly swarthy boys who have probably come more to stare at me than to be the firsts to know.
Well, it's true.
Birtune comes out the cave, stooping as usual.
"Rilaf!" he croaks. "It's you. Akwin bless you on your journey."
"Now all the boys and the other elders start to congratulate me, wishing me well. I'll leave tomorrow, apparently. I nod and accept their words, but secretly I am wondering about being with kids from other tribes. I shall have to be careful how I conduct myself, for Brayza really is the greatest of the tribes and I am the only representative on this journey.
A dimension.Kaifu~
I stand before the council of elders, having just got the news that I'm going on a mission with other seadwellers to go talk to serpents??? They also told me to go meet them and to represent Kexlae with pride, though they don't look at me and I get the feeling that they just want me to leave. I quickly thank them for the honor and swim to my cave to wait for Odash, he usually gets here a few blips before sunpeak but today he's late. To be fair, I am too but still!
I wait for him for a while before I hear someone swimming towards me, I shoot up from my seated position and swim to the door, as I reach it I start to call out "You're lade Odash" but stop in the middle of the sentence. There's a female seadweller treading water in front of me I make a small noise of surprise and shrink back from her, bumping into a solid body in the process*.
~~~
Which seadewller has scared Odash's bean?
*the solid body is Odash deciding to sneak behind Kaifu, I can't write that at the moment but I'll try to later
-
JithyyParticipantOK I'll take this into my own hands if nobody else will *scowls*
Rilaf~
I stand before a purple Ocean one, about my age. He looks at me warily. It makes me feel uneasy, which is weird because I usually don't feel that way.
"Uh, hi," I say, putting a hand up to my hair unconsciously (at least it's supposed to look that way). "I'm so sorry _ I was practicing my spear throwing-"
The boy and his companion look a little alarmed. I smile. "And I seemed to have accidentally thrown too far . . ."
I go and pick up my spear, which is lying nearby.
~~~
uuuuuuh why does this always happen to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee guys please poooooooooooooost
-
DarkkingParticipantHome sick ;^;Odash~
I look at the female standing before Kaifu and me before saying sofltly, since my voice tends to boom, "It's quite alright, I was just a bite late in meeting up with Kaifu here." I gesture to the aforementioned sea dweller who is shaking like a leaf. "He hasn't had much experiendce in meeting others." I hold my hand out, smiling at the strange girl. "I'm Odash, it's a pleasure to meet your aquantince." I flip on the charm that I'm supposed to use when meeting with other clanmembers.
Kaifu~
I shift to the left and slightly behind Odash when he starts talking, watching them wearily. She can tell. She can tell I'm not normal. I curl my into a fust, hiding the swirl on my right palm with my fingers.
~~~
Not feeling too great but posting! Don't worry Jith, I've got you covered… at least a little bit anyways.

KestrelParticipantReturning to realityAmalia~
This was a mistake. Coming here – whenever here is – was not the smartest move. This is why exploring is not always great. I’ve been caught, and by two people at that.
“I-i’m Amalia,” I stutter, lifting my chin and taking the intimidating one’s hand. His grip is gentle, surprisingly. The other one shifts behind his friend, and I peer at him curiously. Something about him feels… almost familiar. “And who are you?” I ask coolly.
”Kaifu,” he says, his voice wary.
Oh right! I kick myself mentally. Odash said that already. Stupid.
I open my mouth to say more, but Odash’s eyes suddenly widen in alarm and he pulls me into the cave.
———————
sorry! I know this is short, but I had to at least out something. Hopefully, it’s alright.

JithyyParticipantUm Kestrel I already took care of this part . . . . just read my comment from earlier

JithkeeperParticipantAshva~
A weird taste fills my mouth. It's water, but – not.
"It's weird, i don't like it."
"Ok." She shrugs. "I just wondered what you thought."
-
Ella StarburstParticipantI put the container back in my stuff-holder. Then I realize something.
"Wait, you said the other Jaens were looking for me, right?" I ask Ashva.
He shrugs. "Yeah, but mostly the white stuff."
"Rockbites!" I pack up my stuff frantically, "I gotta find them! Thanks Ashva, nice talking with you!" I turn around and begin to swim away, but then I turn around and look at Ashva.
"Promise we'll talk again?" I say, holding my pinkie out, "Before we go to the lair, of course."
Ashva hesitates, then crosses his pinkies with mine.
"Promise."
*******************************************************************************
I swim past all the rocks and find my mother with Polis.
"There you are!" Mom scolds, grabbing my arm," Me and Polis were scared out of our minds!"
"I wasn't scared at all!"
"You cried, Polis."
"Yeah, but not that much."
I roll my eyes. Typical Polis.
"Sorry Mom," I shrug, "I was…busy. Talking to someone."
"That's not an excuse for leaving out of nowhere!" She scolds again as I cringe. FinMarrow, she found out. "You are 18, one of the oldest on this expedition, and act like Polis at times!"
"I can act responsible when I want," I counter angrily. I'm right. I have shown my strength in times of trouble, even when I was Polis's age.
"I know this, and that proves my point," she responds coolly, "You need to know when you have to be serious, and not just at the last minute!"
"Tell that to the people who chose me!"
"They believe you can do this, Vicky," she begins to show a calmer tone, almost beg-like, "We all know you can. Please, just do this for us."
I sigh. She always uses the "do it for us" excuse.
"Alright, fine. I'll try my best."
Probably because she knows it works.
"I'll try my best too!" Polis grins, surprising us both by appearing.
"Oh!" My mother laughed nervously, "Yes Polis! You're…also going…" There was a moment of silence, and confusion for Polis.
"That reminds me!" Mom burst out, shoving Polis towards me, "I wanted you to take care of her! Me and her mother are going to go out for food. Have fun you two!" She swam off, probably to find my Aunt. Typical.
I look down at Polis. "Well," I begin, "Whaddya wanna do, little gal?"
-
Jith @SummerParticipantI think you should go next . . . .

SummerParticipantpi
Nowhere at allI rack my brain. What do I want to do? There are so many awesome things to do on my last day before the mission.
"What were you doing that made you take so long?" I wonder out loud.
Vicky shifts her feet. "That's not important," she hedges.
Now that I know Vicky's keeping secrets, I absolutely have to know. "C'mon! Tell me! Please!"
"But I asked you a question first. Shouldn't you answer that question?"
I ponder this for a second. Then, an idea bursts into my brain. "I want to go where you were that made you take so long! Will you take me there? Please?"
Vicky squirms. She looks like she's about to say no.
I stand closer to her and give her the biggest sad-eyed face I have. "Pleeeeease?" I whine.
~~~
Will Vicky say yes or no, Ella Starburst?
Autumn said thai! Is she in the mood for thai food?
-
Ella StarburstParticipantI think for a bit. There's no way that I can show her my hiding spot; it's for my eyes only. But she'll be so disappointed if I don't…
Then, I remember another place I found on my travels. A place Polis will love.
"All right," I grin, "But only if you tell no one!"
She puts a finger to her lips. "I promise," she says in the loudest whisper ever.
I hold her hand tighter and swim out beyond the ocean. We swim for about five minutes before we reach the place. Polis gasps in delight.
It's a collection of rocks like all the others in our village, but they aren't. These ones were white, orange, and brown. They were twisty and turny, swerving into all sorts of shapes. A chair, a gate, a house, and my personal favorite-
"A FISH!" she swam over to the clownfish shaped rock and sat on it, playing with its dorsal fin. I smiled and swam over to the house-shaped rock, where I had cracked off a bit of rock shaped ike a small child.
@EverybodyParticipantOK guys could we maybe start steering the plot near the start of the story, so that Rogue Wildling can introduce (her?) character and all?
Thank you!
JithkeeperParticipantAck! What I meant was start of the journey, not story.
