I shuffle into the hall where a meeting is being held. The person at the desk stands. "Welcome, dragon riders." I notice a glance towards me, like the person is wondering if they're really correct that I'm here. I am here. And I'm going to be a dragon rider.

Hopefully.

The person says, "I'm Evelletha Rowan, I use they/them pronouns, and I'm the head of the dragon riders here."

Murmers spread throughout the room. I shuffle my feet.

"Now, it's time for the test."

Test? I hadn't heard anything about a test -!

Evelletha stares down at us through their dark green glasses, their medium-long dark brown hair falling over their ears. And I'm not prepared for what they say next.
