For a few years I went to a school to learn Mandarin Chinese because I'm half Chinese and my mom made me, but I only went once a week and never really learned anything except how to count and how to say hello. Now I'm kinda trying to learn Spanish on Duolingo (I haven't been on for a month or two lol) and French and Latin are on my list to try!

I'm learning Spanish in school, and Mandarin because my parents want me to. I think it'd be cool to learn either ASL or Russian, because they don't have any Latin/Chinese origins, so it's like totally different.

I am working on learning Spanish because my dream is to live in Barcelona. I am going to move there as soon as I can, maybe go to college there…

I love languages so much! I'm officially taking both Spanish and French in my school for the 4th year in a row (normally you only take 1, with a minimum of 3 years) and am thinking of picking up Mandarin (Chinese) as well. (My best friend is Chinese so many she can help me a little if I have any difficulties?)

Also, at one point I had literally every language on Duolingo. :X Fortunately, I have decided to tone it back and focus on around a dozen for now, most of them being the most spoken languages in the world, or ones I'm just really interested in. 

However, as of now, I have not been able to find Tagalog (Philippino) to brush up/learn more professionally from on Duolingo; despite my stepmother being a Tagalog-speaker and me sort of just picking it up a bit from her. 

Speaking of my stepmother, she's really into anime and stuff, which I also have some experience in. It started out as just Japanese cartoons/dramas/comics/games/music but has since developed my interests in Chinese, Korean and even a smidge of Vietnamese and Singaporean stuff as well. My roots are definitely strongest with Japanese regarding that group, and it's become so engraved in me that sometimes, in the middle of an English conversation, I'll actually accidentally slip into Japanese. :'D K-Pop was also brought to my attention due to my interest in the more visual mediums(like cartoons/comics, dramas and games) and has been irreversibly solidified as a key staple in my life.

Um… This is sort of turning into a ramble, but just to breeze through some more: I'm from Ireland, so of course, Irish Gaelic was on my radar; my family has strong roots in Judaism, I am religious, and even my real name is a 'traditional' Hebrew name, plus a different writing system so bonus points for Hebrew; my  paternal grandmother was enamoured with Russia, constantly bombards me with Russian artifacts/articles/souvenirs and even married a Russuan guy, plus again Cryllics are similar, but not Latin script (bonus points again) so there was no way I would pass up such an opportunity; Swahili: I feel like African culture and languages are not given enough thought now or in general history, plus my maternal grandfather was directly from Africa; Egyptian because I was a deep still am intrigued and inspired by ancient Egypt, to the point as a child 'til, like, last year the only thing I really wanted to be when I grew up was an archaeologist… so. Yeah (bonus point fiesta?). I've also always wanted to learn Latin, even though it's technically an extinct language (it was one of the few languages offered at the first year of foreign-language in our school, but figured I could only fit 2, and Spanish and French would both be more useful in the real world), and the same with never getting a chance to learn Greek or Arabic fully. HOWEVER! That is changing soon, as this year, my English teacher of all people will personally be teaching me both! Isn't that so cool???

So yea, summary: I love languages, I have my feet dipped into probably too many, but there are still so many more that I have yet to discover/really learn on a deep level. 

Oh, and that reminds me! Has anyone ever heard of con-langs??? They're basically languages made for fictional use (like Tolkien's Elvish, or Klingon) but they're sooo fun and I've made some of my own, and-

I speak English and am learning Mandarin Chinese! I can also speak a tiny bit of Spanish.

I'm learning French in school and I took Spanish last year! I think in next year I'll do Latin and French. I'm also starting Hebrew for my bat mitzvah.

I'm currently learning Latin! Four years are required as part of my school but it's pretty fun! We have a quiz tomorrow though :/ 

Languages are SO. COOL.

I'm learning Japanese at the moment (at chapter 7 in my textbook, can read around 300 kanji) and it is the most fascinating thing I've ever learned.  So much so that my parents took it away when school started because i was getting to absorbed in it (not cool, parents.  Not cool.)  BUT I am hopinghopinghoping to get it back soon.  

Any fellow Japanese learners out there, it would be cool to compare thoughts and try out conversations- something I've never really been able to do with real people.
