The first day of school is almost always the worst. I have to deal with endless paperwork, naive new teachers, lost students, rowdy teenagers who "forgot" the school rules over the summer, and the occasional imp infestation. I'm prepared for anything as I take my place at the podium. Around the Aspen Hall, named for the huge enchanted tree that grows in the center of the spacious room, students have gathered and stand expectantly. A few of the older ones catch my eye and wave hello, and I smile.
…Maybe this isn't so bad after all. "Welcome, or welcome back, to Petrichor Academy everyone. I'm of the opinion that first-day-of-school speeches are overrated, so I'm not going to draw this out. You're all here to learn, and that includes learning magic. You may learn curses or dark forms of magic, but using these on other students is strictly prohibited. Now off with you."
The students file out of the hall as the air fills with loud, excited chatter. They sure are a peculiar bunch, especially this year. A redheaded, golden-eyed girl walks past, taking in the castle, followed by a boy with colorful hair and a girl with a shimmering aura about her. "What do you think of them?" Professor Dresden asks, watching them along with me.
"We'll see," I respond. "I have a feeling that this will be interesting, to say the least."
After the hall has cleared out I walk back to my office, climbing a narrow staircase to reach it. These stairs won't appear to anyone who doesn't have business in my tower, a clever idea I thought of after I'd been pranked one too many times. The stairs lead up to a small room with huge windows that look out onto the lawn hundreds of feet below and filled with plants. I sigh as I sink into my favorite violet armchair and finish writing down the dorm assignments, this year's students still in my mind. The list is as follows-
Hex (House Roc), Darkvine (House Kelpie), and Flamarestii (House Roc)
Rallie (House Leprechaun), Kyn (House Leprechaun)
Realta (House Kelpie), Summer/Starling (House Roc)
Aisling (House Kelpie), Hour (House Kelpie)
Kiria (House Kelpie), Lily (House Kelpie), Featherine (House Leprechaun)
Crystal (House Roc), Swallow (House Leprechaun)
Shannon (House Kelpie), Bluebell (House Roc)
Erin (House Roc), Drius (House Roc)
With a wave of my wrist, a gust of wind sweeps through the room and the papers float away on it to the students who haven't recieved dorms yet. Classes start tomorrow, and I intend to have some much-needed relaxation until then.

Anyone can take over from here!

Pr. DresdenParticipantae/aem/aerI sit in my office, making sure my lesson plans are in order for tomorrow.
My purple couch faces the door and in front of the seat is a clear glass coffee table. On the table rests my huge black binder. I know, I could use magic to file everything, but I find it not worth the energy. Plus, it intimidates students :).
The carpeting that the couch and table rest on is a deep beige, because that colour makes stains easy to clean up. I only have a couple decorations on the wall: a copy of a Salvador Dali painting, and a photograph of my pet tarantula.
The gust of air from my door slamming open startles me. I look up to see who it is. I think it's a student, but I haven't memorized all the students' names and faces yet.
I stitch a hasty translating spell in the air with my needle. I sign [Can I help you?]

Pr. DresdenParticipantae/aem/aer(By the way, anyone who wants to can be the person who barged in. Maybe you have a question about my class, maybe you're a House Kelpie student who wants to know the rules, whatever. If no one decides, this person might be a ghost or something, idk)

No one's here yet.Good.The room isn't anything special, but there's nothing to complain about, either. Ample space, beds, a closet, a desk with paper and a lamp. I set my bags down on the bed and grab a book from one. I stare at the rest for a moment, then shrug slightly and flip through the yellowed pages of my book. Just when I've found my page, the door freaks open. I glance at the person in the doorway. -

AvaraParticipant(Rallie)Rallie set down her duffel as she walked quietly into her room. She knew there was one other person in this room, and hoped he was organized. She hated disorganization. Rallie took out a few books, her music book, and a notebook. She flipped through it, and stopped on a picture her sister drew of her playing the bass. Smiling, she put the notebook into the closet, and started to take out one thing at a time, putting it away. She checked her work, and sighed with relief on finding that her things took up no more than half the space in the drawers and closet. As Rallie put the duffel into the closet, she noticed she had missed something, and pulled it out. It was a small jewelry box that fit in her palm. Rallie opened it, and found a note, and a pearl necklace. She read the note.
Dear Rallie,
This necklace was given to me by your grandmother as I was going into Petrichor Academy. She had it before me, and her father gave it to her as she went here as well. You will learn a lot here, but it won't be easy. There are other things to worry about than grades and friends, as you will learn soon. Good luck, and I hope I see you soon.
Mother
Rallie put the necklace on, and set the letter on her bed. She sat down, and began to read a book she had brought. Twenty minutes later, her roommate walked in. Was his name Kynthonelison? She quickly hid the letter, and waved to her new roomate.
-
KynthonelisonParticipanthe/himThat's gotta be my roommate. I wave back. "Rallie, right?"
"I'm Kynthonelison, but do not call me that. Call me Kyn."
I set my stuff down on my bed. Looks comfy and springy. The furniture all looks really comfortable for a school. Starting to put up a few crocheted wall hangings, I turn away from Rallie. The yarn is lovely, sitting on the grey wall. Oh wait, Rallie's saying something. I guess I kind of zoned out. While she very kindly repeats what she said, I offer her a magic Oreo.

I am currently in my dorm room, reading my favorite book. I have read it so many times, but I still enjoy it every single time. I already unpacked my stuff, so I have nothing else I need to do. I'm not sure if my roomates already got here and either didn't come to the room or didn't unpack, or if they haven't arrived here yet. I hope I get a little more time alone.
After a few minutes I get up and put my book away. I decide to look around and memorize the school. Then I won't get lost. I sigh and leave my room.

I walk around the school for a while before heading to my room. No one else is in the room, so I unpack and lay down on my bed. Soon, I fall asleep.

The Fairy RealmShannon walked slowly down the long corridors. The opposite way everyone else had gone. She had wanted some time alone. She ran a hand along the stone wall as she walked, gazing around herself in awe. It really was magnificent. Suddenly, she yawned so wide her head nearly split in two. She looked down at her watch and felt a twinge of guilt it was far later than she had realized. She sighed, turned around and started to try and find her way back. But it wasn't that easy. She hadn't really been paying attention as she walked along each corridor looked different and completely strange. Shannon wasn't really worried, though. She often got lost. "I suppose I'd better rest her for the night," she mumured in her soft voice. She laid down on the ground, feet pulled up to her chest. -
Starling/SummerParticipant11
Elgin, ILI ran a hand through my golden hair slowly turning black. if someone saw me, it would be a very awkward conversation.
stop thinking about it. you never know, there could be mind readers here.
I took a deep breath and ducked into a side corridor, almost crashing into someone. "ah! sorry, got to go!" I yelped, hoping whoever it was didn't see my shapeshifting curse.
"who are you?" the person said.
I looked back, keeping my face in the shadow so that I would be hidden. "my name… is Summer." I lied. my name now was Starling. "who are you?" I asked, careful to keep my voice from slipping into the quieter, deeper night shift.
