OliveParticipantI GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!! And now here is how I did (it's very different from what Ima did)
The clue came out at around 10:30 AM (EST/Toronto) and the clue lead me to the Sony website. There was no magical quill floating around, so I kept on refreshing the site. I also put the quill.pottermore url with the code in the top bar a few times after refreshing the sony website 20-ish times. Then the Pottermore site appeared and there was a button that said Register.
I did it in a rush because I had to go to my piano lesson (I wasn't late, I was actually a bit early to it) and I'm not that fond of my username (PurpleDream41) but at least I got in!
I haven't gotten the welcome email yet, just the confirmation one. *is waiting anxiously* And when you log in, I think the wizard standing in Privet Drive is Hagrid, actually.
APC says kzay. Ok, Zay? Who's Zay? I rather like that name. 🙂
-
LeafParticipant14
on a tree!Yay!!! So glad you got in! *feels silly* I didn't even see the wizard in Privet Drive… but yeah, that could totally be Hagrid! Yeah, re: not finding the magical quill, apparently they had some problems with the quill, so they just linked people directly to the registration site.
Also, my name is CloakSun182… and I don't particularly dislike it. I was actually kind of glad that I didn't have to stress over having to come up with a name. 🙂

on a tree!Well, here's the deal. On the Pottermore website, during a certain hour, they post a clue based on the Harry Potter books. Each day covers a clue from a different book – Day 1 was a clue about Book 1, Day 2 a clue about Book 2, etc. So tomorrow will be Clue 5. Unfortunately, a time frame for the release of this clue hasn't been announced yet, so I'm not exactly sure when the clue will be posted. You can check the Pottermore blog, I believe, to get updates about the clue. (You can Google the blog – it's quite easy to find.) If you get on to the website at at time when the clue is announced, they provide a link for you to put into your address bar, and you add the answer (which is always a number) to the end of that URL. Then it'll take you to a website where you have to find the magical quill. It should be somewhere on the website (probably in the space where the ads usually are – on the side margin). Once you click/interact with the quill, you'll be able to register. It's all pretty easy once you figure out when the clue is. 🙂 Good luck!!

ImaParticipantHe's too short-haired to be Dumbledore, too non-emerald-cloaked to be McGonagall, and too short to be Hagrid…
-
ZNZParticipant14
ThulcandraI've missed all the clues so far.
I'm quite put out about this username deal. I've used the same username for everything for ages, and I'd like to be able to use it. This is just silly. Especially since the usernames they provide are so lame.
-
ImaParticipantMy options were, too. From what I've seen, though, there are actually a few amazingly epic ones. Unfortunately, their awesomeness is often not recognized by the ones the option is given to. One person ranted about how he hated his name, but his other options were stupid things like WombatCrusader. Yes, that's right. WombatCrusader. It's one of the most awesome usernames I've ever heard! But he chose a typical name instead. Some people are impossible to understand…
They're like the names in the Warriors series, really: There are a few great ideas like Echosong and WombatProphecy, but everything else is ridiculous like Bumblestripe and NifflerCauldron. Well, I suppose most things are really in between like OwlWing, but still. I suppose they're just making sure that no-one names themself "Elenora_Phoebe_Addison@1BrownLane (made up name and address), but it's still annoying.
-
ZNZParticipant14
ThulcandraDude, WombatCrusader is the best username evar. Did you smack him?
No, on second thought, now it's left open for me to use if I get the chance. Heehee.
Now I've listened to [most of] MuggleCast234, I think it's to keep people from using expletives or just any kind of vulgar usernames. Which I get, but still.

OliveParticipant@Tiffany W.: I don't know if ZNZ answered your question yet, as I can't see her comment, but the Pottermore site releases a clue a day at a specific time. You answer that clue and put the answer at the end of quill.pottermore.com/[clue] and then it will either take you to where Ima went, to where I went (the Sony site), or somewhere completely different. But because HP has a big fanbase, you have to solve the clue quickly.
Only 3 more days left (including today) to get in. 🙂

TNOParticipant18
Deep SpaceToday it was released at 11 o'clock in the morning, Mountain time. Which was irritating, because I pulled an all nighter waiting for it and all my early-morning delusions were wasted. Anyway, this time it took me to the Scholastic website for the books, and the magic quill was in a Pottermore banner ad at the top of the site.
The username thing is kind of irritating, as I have been using TNO (or TNOandXadric for sites that require longer usernames) since middle school. But whatever. Anyway, I'm "ThornMirror165", which at least has the benefit of me being able to corrupt the initials into TMR (ThornMirroR, it's like GROSS in Calvin and Hobbes just go with it okay?), which is amusing. Yes, that is the only reason I picked it. Yes, I know that that is a bit pathetic. I don't care.
-
ImaParticipantWhat's TMR?
-
ZNZParticipant14
ThulcandraTMR being for… Tom Marvolo Riddle, I guess?
-
TNÖParticipant18
Deep SpaceNaturally. It seems appropriate, somehow, given that I'm 56K words into a fanfiction about him by now.

OliveParticipantThe Magic Remote?
And I don't read Calvin and Hobbes. I use google. 🙂
-
OliveParticipantDay 6 is over. One more day left!
And the person in Privet Drive sort of looks like Snape because it looks like they have long black hair.
Though it might be an Order member.
And has anyone gotten their Welcome email yet?
-
ImaParticipantClue 7 is also ober! I can't wait until people start recieving their welcome emails.
-
KiwiParticipant15
I got in! On the next to last day, which was really the last day for us because we were traveling the next day. I couldn't believe it when I got it! Both my sisters got it, as well, and we're all really excited even though we don't really know what kind of website it's going to be, except that right now it's a beta website, so we're sorta gonna be like field-testers, except for a website and not curriculum.

-
OliveParticipantGlad you got in, Kiwi! 🙂
I got an email a few days ago that I keep forgetting about that says I'll receive my Welcome email from mid-August to the end of September. Gah! The anticipation is killing me!
-
-
OliveParticipantThe Welcome emails have been sent out already and the people who got the Day 1 quill are getting in.
Some people (including me) think that each week, more welcome emails will be sent out., i.e., This week the Day 1s get their emails, next week is Day 2, then the week after is Day 3 and so on.
Which means 4 MORE WEEKS until I get my Welcome email. *is excited*
Has anyone gotten in yet?
-
ImaParticipantIt's not related to which day you registered. Some people from Day 1 are still waiting, and some from day 7 have gotten their welcome email. When they said it would be first-come first-serve, they were talking about registration, not welcome emails. I'm having major difficulty waiting; I'm reading information from people who got their welcome emails, and it sounds amazing! I read all the House welcome messages except Slytherin, which I couldn't find, and I want to be in Ravenclaw more than ever now. I think my wand will be rather rigid with unicorn hair. I don't know what kind of wood… I CAN'T WAIT.
-
LeafParticipant14
on a tree! It's funny – the only message I have read has been Slytherin, because I have a friend who got into Slytherin.
So have you gotten your Welcome message yet? Has anyone here? They sent some out today, and I was constantly refreshing my email… but no luck. I'm starting to get pretty impatient… 🙂
-
ImaParticipantI've been checking my email about 20 times a day as opposed to the once a week max of before, but mine still hasn't come. It's quite annoying.
Could you please post the Slytherin message? I've been dying to read it.
-
LeafParticipant14
on a tree!My parents have been known to see me moping about the house complaining that I still haven't received my Pottermore email. I check the Pottermore blog and Twitter account (though I don't have a Twitter) more than I really should… and whenever I come home from going somewhere, I drop all things and run to the computer to check my emails. What has Harry Potter done to me? 😉
I don't know if I can post the Slytherin message on here, so if the Admins zap it, I'll NaNoMail it to you. 🙂
Here it is:
"Congratulations! I’m Prefect Gemma Farley, and I’m delighted to welcome you to SLYTHERIN HOUSE. Our emblem is the serpent, the wisest of creatures; our house colours are emerald green and silver, and our common room lies behind a concealed entrance down in the dungeons. As you’ll see, its windows look out into the depths of the Hogwarts lake. We often see the giant squid swooshing by – and sometimes more interesting creatures. We like to feel that our hangout has the aura of a mysterious, underwater shipwreck. Now, there are a few things you should know about Slytherin – and a few you should forget.
Firstly, let’s dispel a few myths. You might have heard rumours about Slytherin house – that we’re all into the Dark Arts, and will only talk to you if your great-grandfather was a famous wizard, and rubbish like that. Well, you don’t want to believe everything you hear from competing houses. I’m not denying that we’ve produced our share of Dark wizards, but so have the other three houses – they just don’t like admitting it. And yes, we have traditionally tended to take students who come from long lines of witches and wizards, but nowadays you’ll find plenty of people in Slytherin house who have at least one Muggle parent.
Here’s a little-known fact that the other three houses don’t bring up much: Merlin was a Slytherin. Yes, Merlin himself, the most famous wizard in history! He learned all he knew in this very house! Do you want to follow in the footsteps of Merlin? Or would you rather sit at the old desk of that illustrious ex-Hufflepuff, Eglantine Puffett, inventor of the Self-Soaping Dishcloth?
I didn’t think so.
But that’s enough about what we’re not. Let’s talk about what we are, which is the coolest and edgiest house in this school. We play to win, because we care about the honour and traditions of Slytherin.
We also get respect from our fellow students. Yes, some of that respect might be tinged with fear, because of our Dark reputation, but you know what? It can be fun, having a reputation for walking on the wild side. Chuck out a few hints that you’ve got access to a whole library of curses, and see whether anyone feels like nicking your pencil case.
But we’re not bad people. We’re like our emblem, the snake: sleek, powerful, and frequently misunderstood.
For instance, we Slytherins look after our own – which is more than you can say for Ravenclaw. Apart from being the biggest bunch of swots you ever met, Ravenclaws are famous for clambering over each other to get good marks, whereas we Slytherins are brothers. The corridors of Hogwarts can throw up surprises for the unwary, and you’ll be glad you’ve got the Serpents on your side as you move around the school. As far as we’re concerned, once you’ve become a snake, you’re one of ours – one of the elite.
Because you know what Salazar Slytherin looked for in his chosen students? The seeds of greatness. You’ve been chosen by this house because you’ve got the potential to be great, in the true sense of the word. All right, you might see a couple of people hanging around the common room whom you might not think are destined for anything special. Well, keep that to yourself. If the Sorting Hat put them in here, there’s something great about them, and don’t you forget it.
And talking of people who aren’t destined for greatness, I haven’t mentioned the Gryffindors. Now, a lot of people say that Slytherins and Gryffindors represent two sides of the same coin. Personally, I think Gryffindors are nothing more than wannabe Slytherins. Mind you, some people say that Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor prized the same kinds of students, so perhaps we are more similar than we like to think. But that doesn’t mean that we cosy up with Gryffindors. They like beating us only slightly less than we like beating them.
A few more things you might need to know: our house ghost is the Bloody Baron. If you get on the right side of him he’ll sometimes agree to frighten people for you. Just don’t ask him how he got bloodstained; he doesn’t like it.
The password to the common room changes every fortnight. Keep an eye on the noticeboard. Never bring anyone from another house into our common room or tell them our password. No outsider has entered it for more than seven centuries.
Well, I think that’s all for now. I’m sure you’ll like our dormitories. We sleep in ancient four-posters with green silk hangings, and bedspreads embroidered with silver thread. Medieval tapestries depicting the adventures of famous Slytherins cover the walls, and silver lanterns hang from the ceilings. You’ll sleep well; it’s very soothing, listening to the lake water lapping against the windows at night. "

ThulcandraNoooooooooooo. JKR, I am sorely disappointed. No, Merlin cannot have gone to Hogwarts noooooooooooo. I hate hate hate the idea of Merlin being Hogwarts educated; he's a sorcerer and he learned sorcery on his own though I suppose living backwards in time helped a bit as well and he PREDATES Hogwarts and he is powerful, and he uses a staff, not a sissy sissy wand and ARCHIMEDES WOULD RATHER DIE THAN DELIVER LETTERS. I REJECT YOUR CANON AND SUBSTITUTE MY/TH WHITE'S OWN.
-
ImaParticipantIt's possible that magical equipment was less standardized then and that he did have a staff. Or that they're the same thing and it's only the names that are different; it's not as if their appearances are described in HP in detail. I always thought of him as predating Hogwarts, too, but I've read many conflicting stories about him and therefore have few fixed, inflexible ideas on the subject, but I understand how frustrating that must be. I suppose you could tell yourself that it's just a rumour and she's just bragging?
My own reaction was more along the lines of, "They get to see the inside of the lake?! ENVY!!!!"

on a tree!Guess what guys??? I just got my welcome email!!!! I'm so excited and have just started to read chapter 1. Aaahh!!! When I got it i spent a few minutes running around the house screaming and changing into blue clothes. (Maybe that would help the sorting process?) But anyway, I have to make it through the first five chapters before I get sorted, so onward I must proceed.
To everyone who hasn't gotten their emails yet, I totally understand. Good luck waiting!
Have fun, Leaf!

OliveParticipantLucky! Have fun and tell us what you get Sorted into! 🙂

on a tree! Thanks! I definitely will. By the way, I've added everyone who posted their names on here as friends, so don't worry if you get a friend request from CloakSun182. 🙂

on a tree!I'm in Ravenclaw!! I'm so amazingly happy – I've always wanted to be in Ravenclaw… Though I feel I'm actually on the border between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. My wand is 10 inches, pear wood, phoenix core, and slightly yielding. Also, I bought a barn owl. I think they are the most gorgeous owls and I also have loved them ever since I read Guardians of Ga'Hoole.
Anyway, I hope you all get your emails soon. Now I fear for my homework – I'll be staying up practising spells all night. 🙂
