Hi Admin,
Thank you so much for all the work you do! I am especially glad the background was kept as off-white, it is a lot easier on the eyes.
There are a few things I was confused by:
1. On the Random Thoughts/Things thread many of the comments on the few newest pages are labeled as posted by Anonymous when I remember them being a CBer’s name before the old site went down.
2. One the same thread some of the anonymous comments have a different picture in the circle above the name than the usual cricket in everyone else’s. Is it a new feature that we can have “profile pictures”? If so, how can the picture be changed?
3. On the testing thread made by Zealatom some of the later comments (including mine) have the word guest under the name. I know for my comments I didn’t put anything at all in the age and location boxes. Is this a result of not filling out those boxes? Some comments made by others on various threads and a couple of my earlier ones have no ages or locations and I didn’t see “Guest” on those.-
The Anonymous glitch has already been reported. It may take over a week to fix it. I’m not sure about the profile pictures or the guest label. I’ll pass your questions on to our webmaster.

hello admins! i had a few questions about the website; are we going to be able to put profile photos or actually make accounts? as in, with emails and log-ins and everything. i saw someone with a profile photo on the last-to-post thread–was that something that’s been removed or am i just not seeing how to do it?
i loved how the site looked back then, and it was very nostalgic–but i’m also very excited for the new site. you all have done a great job, can you please thank the other admins and the webmaster for me? thank you so much!! we love you guys.

this is a name change for BB. This new website is really confusing. Also I think my reply didn’t go through (on my Chat Thread with Silver and Jaybells)?
the whole time the CB was down I thought was going to leave because I don’t want to have such a record here of everything, but it’s now clear that I’m changing my mind XD i’ve missed everyone a TON.

bottled_haze hii!!! It’s so good to read you again (and ditto what pangolin said, but also I get what you mean)!! Yeah, for the reply to work you have to type in your comment, press submit, and wait for the page to reload. When the page reloads, you can scroll down to where your comment is, and the comment will still be written in the text box, and then you have to press submit again and then it should work fine! You’ll have to rewrite your name, age, and location though (but not your comment). Oh, and also once you reload the page, the CloudFlare captcha will come up and you have to check the box before submitting.
And ack I shouldn’t even be on here ‘cuz I’m supposed to be on sorta-hiatus so bye!!

oh my gosh, hi, BB! i missed you so much, i’m so glad you ended up not leaving. (for context, this is Wren–aka Riddle. i just changed my name as well. i actually took a 9 month hiatus for the same reasons you were considering leaving and i returned…for quite literally the same reasons haha)

will reply tomorrow (or soon; i’ve been quite sick at the moment, with 2 seperate kinds of illnesses. i actually had a fever of 102, which is pretty much unheard of for me, i don’t really get fevers and definitely not actual fevers past 99). i actually did already but it didn’t go through. i am glad to see you all again! hi i’m back! i actually had to go to the hospital bc i couldn’t eat or drink anything, and also my fever (for a bit) got up to 103 and i was violently shivering and my limbs were numb, though that was actually before. (the fever thing is weird bc i never get fevers, ever.) Turns out I had mono. And a uti/kidney infection but that mostly got better i think? idk. They didn’t actually have anything I could eat there – they tried to give me some clear drinks and jello with protein and such but they both had milk??? (also they were apple and orange flavor so i wouldn’t eat them anyway. my mom had told them XD) they were lactose free but contained dairy. (i hate “nondairy” things that contain milk.) there were a few things, but yeah. but i got a tiger stuffie bc of a bingo where i got a point for eating and drinking! will introduce later! i thought i had them with me but i don’t actually…

Chrysanthemum Jasper gives you some caramel and cotton candy from a stand that popped up in the market :3 treat likes going exploring in there, and was going to eat it treatself, but figured you could use some candy (i’m not sure how to make : D not turn into an emoji so i’ll probably just use :3 idk. also treat mostly lives off of candy, but treat is a magical tiger so it’s fine! real tigers can’t actually taste sweet, they don’t have the right tongue, but we’re ignoring that because it’s treats personality!)

@Lief Beansprout Lovell (and virtue): Chrysanthemum Jasper says hi back. (well, treats whole name is Chrysanthemum Candytuft Jasper.) Treat says, when treat was in the market yesterday, treat found some gummy flies, but sadly, since flies aren’t treats favorite food, treat didn’t get any. Treat rummages in treats bag and finds an intricately-etched, but kind of rusted, spoon to offer up instead.
if Lief wants, treat can set up a tea table with Oolong or my yet-unnamed fox. (maybe my fox, that might be more interesting – more of a teahouse, and my fox is less proper than Oolong. (also (side note) i think he might be bigender in some capacity, because he had always been one of my more traditionally masc (or not traditionally maybe, but less fem) stuffies, but then i learned he fits into doll clothes, so like what do you do… i think it fits him to be both though) I really need to just go ahead and choose a name, I have a short list I’ve cycled through for at least several months.) Anyway he would be the server and prepare the area.
In case moss is/you are interested, what sort of foods does Lief like, and what is it like in general? Moss is welcome to bring friends if it desires as well.or anyone else could join.

I got a nice hidcote lavender right before i got sick. also some fennel, cinnamon basil (the one thing i’ve actually planted), and planted some calendula seeds and basil seeds. i also got fennel – you can use the leaves for tea apparently. and some blackberry and raspberry plants, and i’ve planted some strawberries. i also got a mini rose that i planted. i hope the soil isn’t too clay-y. I did my best to amend it. have you been gardening? on which note i really need to water everything… but i still feel bad XD
anyway. sorry it took me so long! i still don’t feel great.

your plants sound super nice! Berries are a great idea because it’s so fun to just go outside and pick them and eat them straight from the garden… Yes, I did do some gardening recently – there’s this crownvetch plant along one side of the garden which looks really pretty, but it has a habit of spreading all over the place, so I was clearing it away to make room for some gorgeous new snapdragons! My mom planted them the other day, and they look quite pretty – all pink and red. Oh, and one of the landlord’s workmen planted some lilac bushes for us a few months ago, so it’s exciting to see how their flowers will turn out! (They haven’t actually bloomed yet, they’re being a bit slow lol.) Other new additions to the garden include a scented geranium and some rosemary. Oh, and the lemon balm from last year has revived! It wasn’t doing very well over the winter, but now it’s back:)
And no worries about responding a little late, the important thing is for you to rest as much as you need to <3

Hi @admins! Hope you’re having a good day:) I saw some discussion about being able to make accounts/profiles, and I was wondering if they could be optional (or even better, not available at all)? I think accounts, and profiles especially, would make the CB less friendly. It would be more like typical social media. Once people start having profiles, there’s a lot more competition and it becomes easier for “popular” figures to emerge over others. There’s a lot of pressure to select an appealing profile picture, give yourself an interesting tagline, and any number of other things, instead of just letting yourself be seen for who you really are. And vice versa: we would find ourselves getting to know people partly through a pre-constructed image, instead of their actual selves. Part of the reason the CB is such a great community is that it’s like real life: getting to know people through their actions and words, not through an artificial summary. I’d hate to lose that.
Also, in my own experience, it gets really bad for my mental health and self-esteem – even just looking at my friends’ social media accounts always ends up making me feel sad and insecure. This is really common among teenage girls especially, from what I’ve read, and many CBers are teenage girls, so it might happen to them as well. It would be terrible if that happened here.
Besides, with obligatory accounts, how would we do SIs or post anonymously? Both things are really important to the CB – SIs are a unique and entertaining game that people have been doing on here for years, and posting anonymously is an important way for people to express important things that they may be uncomfortable sharing otherwise.
The only thing accounts could help with is impersonation, but they could still be hacked into quite easily, especially given that the CB itself experienced a cyberattack just recently. They wouldn’t be a huge protection. As for myself, I’d rather go without an account even if it means taking a risk of being impersonated (I also don’t want to have to remember yet another password haha). Besides, if accounts were optional, then they would be available for those who want them, while still allowing flexibility and freedom for those who don’t; this would help preserve the CB’s beautiful friendly atmosphere. I really hope you’ll consider this. Thank you so much!

Hi Poinsettia! Thank you for your thoughtful questions about this. We aren’t ready to introduce logins or anything yet, and I am not certain about any of these details. So please take my response with a grain of salt and not as how things will definitely be. That said, here is my understanding. We heard you all loud and clear when we first asked for your input, that many of you prefer to not have logins/profiles. If/when we roll out this feature, this would not be mandatory. If you chose never to create a login that would be totally fine. And those who do chose to log in could log out and post anonymously for things like the SIs. The ability to view others’ profiles would be quite limited. I imagine they would be mostly helpful for those who make them, as a place to access your own posts more easily, etc. Logging in wouldn’t necessarily mean creating a full social media profile or anything like that. I’m sorry I can’t give you a definitive breakdown of how things might be, but I hope this helps you understand where we are coming from.

I’d like to shout out to everyone that if you, too, are nostalgic for the old site, you can view an archive of most of it on the Wayback Machine! It doesn’t have an archive of the whole site, but it has a lot of it, including images that were not transferred over here.

Oh yay, I’m glad that accounts might not happen/will probably be optional! I was super happy that there weren’t any, especially since the new site has already changed the CB’s vibe a bit and it would be sad to change it even more with profiles.
Also, is there any possibility you could allow images to be uploaded from one’s computer again? The way it currently is, any uploaded photos have to be linked to an external site (which I see is still against the rules), and although I have some artwork I’d love to share with the CB, I really don’t want to upload it to some other website.

I’ve passed your query on to our webmaster. I believe efforts are being made to make the uploading of CBers’ original artwork easier, but I don’t know when or if that will be possible. We’ll try to put instructions for submitting images in the FAQ when that happens.

I hear a lot of people complaining about the idea of having logins, but I think it would be quite nice. having it optional would definitely be the better option, of course, but at the same time, I really hope it wouldn’t drive a gap between those who create accounts and those who remain anon/”guests”. I do agree with Poinsettia as well–even if we had accounts, they definitely shouldn’t have viewable profiles. at most, just a username and profile picture would be good. but having an account would be very good for safety reasons.
I, too, am nostalgic for the old site, but this refresh is very healthy. thank you, all of you admins, for the very hard work you put in. -
