THE ELEMENTI CHRONICLES BOOK I: THE STONE OF SERENITY

Chapter I
___{:}___

The moonlight shone on the Lake's deep, fuchsia waters. Conifer trees fringed it, thickening into foreboding woods. The Lake was the center of the Faimón Forest, and it contained a great amount of magic. Its surface was smooth, undisturbed. All seemed well, yet it was not. A wild cry broke the peaceful silence. A shape tumbled down a path through the trees. Another shape hared after the first, who had a jagged gash down its side. "Tell me where it is and we can save a lot of trouble," the second animal growled. "Never! Never in my life!" the first cried, practically wailing. "Then I guess the information will die with you!" The second figure struck the first, shoving it into the Lake. After a while, its head bobbed up, gasping for air. "We. . . . won't. . . tell you! You'll never. . . find. . . . it. . . " The second animal chuckled quietly to itself. "And who's going to stop me?" It padded silently away into the trees.
__________
Sheena opened her eyes. Squinting through the thick water, she searched for the surface. She couldn't tell which way was which in the murky fuchsia water of the Lake, heavy with magic. It was the one body of water that Aquinas leopards couldn't swim skillfully in. There! A pinpoint of moonlight shone through the water. Sheena kicked strongly towards it, propelling herself through the Lake to that shaft of light. She could feel her breath slipping away. Just as she thought she would black out, her muzzle broke the surface. Sheena gasped for air, the gash Narwhal had given her stinging. She paddled for the shore, tail boosting her forward. The leopard reached the sandy beach and heaved herself up onto it. She shook her royal blue pelt out, shuddering.
Sheena knew that the Knowledge Protector would be proud. She would not reveal the Stone's location to anyone, especially not Narwhal, even if it cost her her life. The Aquai Leopards were the guardians of the Stone of Serenity and were part of the Elementi Leopards, along with the Ignis, Ventus, Aether, and Terra Leopards. Each kept a Stone of Harmony, like the Honesty Stone and the Joy Stone.
Each cult of Leopards selected one of their kind to keep all of said cult's lore, the Knowledge Protector. The tales and secrets of each cult were passed down through generations of Protectors. Sheena was training as the Apprentice Protector for her cult.
In addition to the Leopards in the five cults, there were Leopards that abandoned their birth cult and lived as enemies of the Elementi known as Rogues. Rogues banded together, and Narwhal lead his group, which he called the Rens. Narwhal and his group wanted to get everyone in Leovie who opposed the Stones of Harmony to join him, their goal being to capture the Stones, or destroy them, once and for all. Sheena didn't know what would happen if all balance in Leovie was destroyed, and she didn't really want to find out.
Lying on the shore now, gasping for breath, Sheena recounted the day she'd been selected for Apprenticeship by the Knowledge Protector, Ciel. . . .

Awesome!!! It seems similar to  the Warriors series somehow.

It would also be really cool if made an rp too.

"You know there are five cults of Leopards, right?" The Apprentices nodded. "They're the Aqua, or Water Leopards, the Ignis, or Fire Leopards, the Ventus, or Wind Leopards, the Terra, or Earth Leopards, and the Aether, or Starlight Leopards. Each has different skills, traits, and attributes that set it apart from the other cults. For example, we can swim exceptionally well, and the Ignis are immune to fire. We seem very different, but we share the same customs." Xiang paused. "Sometimes, a leopard will have cubs with a leopard from another cult. The elements clash, and the results are often fatal." Minnow gasped. "What happens to the cubs?" she breathed.

Yes, I know! We'd all be dead without them! Continuing where I left off...

Xiang's smile turned dark. "They're killed." The Apprentices all gaped in horror. Luna, one of the cult's cubs, had wandered over to listen. Her pretty violet eyes had stretched wide and she looked terrified. Her indigo fur was bushed out, white spots seeming to glow like stars. Nyx, Luna's mother, padded out of the cub-place and scolded Xiang for scaring her cub. Xiang embarrassedly ducked his head. "Yes, Nyx." Nyx picked Luna up by her scruff, carrying the cub back to her den, despite Luna's protests. "She'll be joining us in the Apprentice den soon," Dawn remarked softly. "She won't be joining me," Xiang boasted. "I'll be a full Aqua Leopard soon." Conifer sighed. "We'll miss you, Xiang." Xiang smiled. "There'll be other Apprentices to fill the den."

"You're the only one that ever made jokes about our work, I bet," Minnow mewed. "Remember the one about the prey in winter?"  Dawn gazed sadly at Xiang, turquoise eyes filling with tears. "It won't be the same without you, Xiang." Xiang snorted. "Y'all are acting like I'm going to die tomorrow!" Dawn licked her chest fur, looking away. "Maybe a little. But do you want to go hunting?" Xiang looked surprised. "Just the two of us?" Dawn ducked her head. "If you don't want to, that's understandable."
"No, it's fine," Xiang replied, looking bemused. "Let's try the Riddle Pools." Dawn, looking relieved, smoothed her cerulean fur and bounded after Xiang. Sheena leaned over to Minnow, whispering, "I could swear those two will end up together," into the smaller leopard's ear. Minnow laughed, sounding like a bubbling stream as she answered, "You just might be right." Sheena signed. "I wish I had more time to spend with you guys."
"Sheena, don't feel bad," Conifer said comfortingly. "We enjoy our time with you as much as with anyone else," Sheena purred, grateful for his support. "Thanks," she responded. "I just feel kind of... Isolated, I guess. I mean, I love Ciel and my training and all that, but it gets a little lonely sometimes." Conifer nudged her. "Hey, at least you'll be able to go to the Gathering tonight." Sheena glanced at him. "Like you won't!" Minnow shrugged. "We don't know what leopards are going until Aqua calls us to go." Sheena smiled. "Hopefully, both of you will go." Minnow and Conifer nodded in agreement. "Hopefully..."
• • •
The moon hung bright in the sky as Sheena and the Aquai padded to the Gathering Place. Sheena stayed close to Ciel, Minnow, and Xiang. Sheena was a little nervous to meet so many Leopards at once, but held her head high as the group of ten leopards made their way to the Gathering. They leaped over fallen trees, paddled through a brook, and, water streaming from their blue pelts, arrived. The Gathering Place was a huge crater in the forest floor. There were five trees- one with water dripping from its branches, one that was scorched, one with full green leaves and rich bark, one whose branches rustled in an unseen breeze, and one that was night black with beads of what must've been starlight gleaming in its boughs. Ciel had told her that these five trees represented the five Elementi cults. Sheena had never imagined they'd be so beautiful!
• • •
Sheena diverted her attention from the trees to look at the leopards pouring in from all sides of the crater. There were fiery orange-red Ignis Leopards, silvery pale Ventus Leopards, rich earthy brown and leaf green Terra Leopards, and shimmering, starry Aether Leopards. Sheena gulped, daunted by the other leopards' numbers, and a knot of anxiety began to form in her stomach. The five Leaders leaped into the tree that represented their cult and the Gathering began.

I usually type the story on the computer, too. That way if I lose it I still have the computer copy. Also if other people want to read the story, it's easier because not everyone can read my handwriting...
