((Holly, if you try your mind-reading tricks here, TNO will zap you, so you know. And no smeyerpires either.))

((What, does she have a penchant for mind-reading characters?  But you're probably right, I would have a seizure or something if a first year was a proficient Occlumens. Wouldn't mind if she was, say, taking lessons for it, however.

And you are also correct - NO MEYERPIRES, please.

Am I really that snappish, though? I know I kinda freaked about your character on the beginning, mostly 'cause I hate RPing with Mary Sues... Sorry about that. :\

I promise not to bite anymore heads off, kay?))

((Well, you see, when we do HP games when we get together, she uses her Melody Tune character, who can a) read minds, and b) sense amounts of magical power, and other stuff like that. And her thing isn't like Occlumens, it's just, reading minds. Yeah. Sorry for starting out a MS, it's my first RP ever, so I didn't have any experince. But, thanks to your brilliant coaching in the art of RPing, I don't think Hazel's a MS anymore! At least, I don't think so............oh, and sorry, my first general impression of you was on this rp, where you were biting my head off from the start, and you know that the first impression is the one that really sticks............ but, my impression of you is starting to improve.))

Yeah, Hazel's much much better than before. And I'm really really sorry about biting your head off in the beginning.

Though, of course, the whole "show don't tell" thing is important in all aspects of writing; so maybe your experience pulling Hazel out of Mary Sue-dom will help you in your writing? Meh. Anyways...

Er, I hate to sound like a broken record but Melody Tune sounds MS-ish too. *hides* I'll just stop talking now.))

((Yeah, Melody T is a MS for sure. It bugs me all the time. (Holly don't kill me for saying it please) Holly, MS stands for Mary-Sue, which is an annoyingly perfect character, which would ruin the story.))

you...struck...a...nerve.....

GRR!!! I don't care that she is a MS, because 1) Hermione was an MS, and she's awesome, 2) I know that she is, but she's(Myrella) not perfect, and she isn't going to read minds, and 3) thank you very much, but you have to have a Mary Sue for EVERYTHING!!!! Just think: of all the threads you've every done, isn't someone  always an MS, so you can keep the story going, and keep it no t TOO-frivolous? Yes!! I will usually be that person, and u know what, Jen? You may be working on it, but you are STILL at it! Look at your last post on DWJ #2!! A broom?

((Hermione wasn't a Mary Sue. She was very smart and funny, but she had a personality. She had flaws and (in the later books) a bit of a vengeance complex. Perfectionism isn't the sign of a Mary Sue; quite the opposite really since Sues generally get everything right without trying at all, whereas a perfectionist is never happy with anything they do (I should know, I am one). Hermione is very insecure and terrified of failure - though she'd never admit it out loud.

Furthermore a character is not a Sue if they are showoffy (as you seemed to imply with the comment on the DWJ RP). Show-offs, know-it-alls, etc. are RECOGNIZED as such by other characters ("an insufferable know-it-all", anyone?), rather than being adored despite their annoying nature.

Sues tend to be perfect, with no flaws, mental or physical. They are usually very pretty but don't see themselves as such; they very often have unique eye color for no apparent reason (for example, smeyer's vegetarian vampires have yellow eyes, though the reason for the difference is never explained). Sues are also, for some reason, clumsy more often than not. Any character who shows a dislike for a Sue is portrayed as a nasty piece of work, or jealous of the Sue (another point against Hermione's Sue-ness; in PS, /nobody/ liked her until after Ron and Harry saved her from the troll and she calmed down a bit).

Sues are very often self-inserts on the part of the author, and show only the author's appealing characteristics, and none of the negative ones; so, while Hermione was an image of JKR as a young girl, Hermione is not a Sue due to the fact that she was based on JKR's know-it-all complex and insecurities.

Sues frequently have unusual powers, unusual names, or unusual skill in (most) areas of life. They learn unnaturally quickly (RENESMEE! RENESMEE!) and no one finds this odd.

So, yeah, I'll stop ranting now))

((What's wrong with a broom? And anyway, I was the first one to mention a broom, and I think it's important to Pippa's character.))

((@Holly: Ok, I really really hate to be a killjoy but electives such as Ancient Runes are not available until third year. Two or more electives are selected at the end of the second year. Again, sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine... And it's not just you, promise.))

//Felicitas' POV//

My first class was Charms. Lillian told me it was on the second floor ((Charms is on the second floor, right?)), which had seemed straightforward enough in the Great Hall.

Now, however, I had absolutely no idea where I was.

"Well, well," said a voice behind me. It was a high, cold voice that sent a chill down my spine. I whirled around and came face to face with Belinda Selwyn, and a big, squarish girl who looked like she could pound me into a pulp. I gulped.

"If it isn't a little lost first year on her way to class..." Belinda said.

"Poor thing..." added the second girl

"I- I don't want any trouble..." I managed, backing away.

"Of course not," said Belinda. Her sweet, innocent tone was countered by the wand that seemed to have suddenly appeared in her hand. That gave me a pause; I hadn't seen her reach for it.

"We just want to help you get to class," said the other. She had her wand out, too, and I eyed it nervously.

The large girl began sidling to the left. Automatically I followed her with my gaze; in my experience, bigger people were a greater threat, and now that I saw Belinda up close and composed, I could see that she was shorter than me.

The large girl looked truly threatening now. "Who are you?" I whispered.

"As if we'd introduce ourselves to filthy scum like you," hissed Belinda from behind me. I kicked myself mentally; I'd let them surround me.

The large girl, however, shot a look over my shoulder. "Now, Bells, she's just a curious thing," she said soothingly, then directed her attention back to me. "Drusilla Nott."

She raised her wand.

//Belinda's POV//

Who dyes their hair blue? She looked like a doxy. Although a doxy would probably pose more of a challenge in a duel than she would...

She was a bit thick, too, that was clear. It had been far to easy to sneak around behind her while her attention was devoted entirely to Dru. Any normal person would have gotten their wand out and their back against a wall at the first sign of trouble - and my wand should have been the equivalent of waving a red flag and blowing something up.

I saw her shoulders tense as Dru raised her wand, and dove out of the way as Dru's stunner shot over her head and towards me. Angrily I fired off a simple spell that tore through the mudblood's bag, sending textbooks, quills, parchment and ink all over the floor. I rolled to my feet instantly.

The mudblood wasn't so fast. She pushed her self to her knees looked up at me with wide eyes.

I shrugged, just a little. "Faster," I said.

Dru smirked. "Now clean up this mess - or I'll put you in detention."

We left, me for Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Dru for Ancient Runes.
