I was walking along the corridors when I found the first-year with the blue hair cleaning up her bag.

"H-hi," I said, approaching her. "Do you want any help?"

"This? Oh, no, I'm nearly done..." Despite her casual tone, I detected a shaking of her voice.

"How did this happen?" I asked. There was a buzz and chattering of students all around me, but I didn't pay attention.

   "Selwyn."

   "Her again?"

   She nodded.

At that moment a voice resounded over the corridors. "All students back to your House dormitories. Immediately, please."

   I froze.

((I'm operating under the assumption that we're using my idea, so if we're NOT using my idea, yell at me and ignore this post. Or, well, ignore the last bit anyway.))

//Belinda's POV//

I slid into the common room in the dungeons and headed straight for Drusilla and Oliver. "What's happened?" I asked, panting slightly as I'd just run down four flights of stairs and through a secret passageway.

Dru shook her head. "Dunno. I haven't heard anything."

Alex sidled up to us, looking half scared, and half exhilarated ((he's Oliver's little brother, for those who don't remember)). "D'you think there's going to be a battle? Or that a troll got in like one did a long time ago? Or-"

Oliver cut him off. "Don't get your hopes up, Xander."

"Probably just something..." I trailed off as George Turin, Slytherin's Head Boy, sidled into the room. He looked worried, and hardly anything scared the enormous Beater.

"What is it?" Dru asked, speaking for the entire room. It was dead silent as George answered solomly,

"Seems there's been a Dark Mark spotted not far from here," he said. My heart leapt, but I said nothing and kept my face expressionless. Advocating the Dark Arts and daydreaming of Death Eaters and the Dark Lord was not the fashionable thing to do these days.

"A Dark Mark?" someone asked fearfully.

"Accompanied by a rash of murders, arson, and Dark Magic in general - and it's headed our way," continued George.

"And that's a crisis now?" I demanded incredulously. "What, Professor Boot ((Terry Boot, DADA teacher, for those who weren't here)) decided that Hogwarts is the target?"

Several people turned to stare at me.

George elaborated, "Whoever is doing this murdered three people in Hogsmede last night. The bodies were just found. And the rumor is that the someone is Bellatrix Lestrange."

A thrill traveled down my spine. There were several cries of "what?" and "how?" throughout the room. I noticed Oliver turn noticeably paler at the mention of the name.

"But she's dead!" he protested.

"The body vanished," I said quietly. "Everyone assumed that it had been the Malfoys, hoping to bury her quietly. She was quite close to her sister, it was reasonable logic... But she might have survived." My heart was slamming against my ribcage.

"Why Bellatrix Lestrange?" demanded Oliver desperately. "Why not some other former Death Eater - one who definitely survived?"

Grimly, George said, "There were two other victims last night; they're not dead, but they appear to have been tortured into insanity."

"Like the Longbottoms," I breathed. "And Rodolphus and Barty Crouch Jr. are dead, and Rabastan's locked in a cell in Azkaban."

Oliver's shoulders sagged. "So she's coming to Hogwarts?" he asked.

((Um, yeah, like I said if we're *not* going to enable my obsession, then yell at me and ignore the last part of this post.))

((Er, also, for purposes of the plot, we're going to follow JKR's lead in flubbing up character ages, and ignore the fact that Bellatrix would now be, uh, 66 years old, 'kay?))

Wolfbar was feeling good about himself. He'd found the location of the place where the great Lord Voldemort's cremated remains were said to lay, placed there by- GAG!- that horrible worm of a man, Dumbledore. The ashes had supposdly been placed in an iron box rusted shut, though of course it'd been sealed with the most powerful of both locks and curses.

The only problem was that anyone who set foot on the accursed ground went immediately insane, incapable of doing anything, so for Wolfbar himself to go was out of the question. This was where James came in ((because I know we thought Albus would be good, but if it's James, Albus can prove himself as a hero (Gryffindor...??) by rescuing him, and apparently Hazel has a crush on him, so she can help. Good? If 'm not agreed we, we can easily change it to Albus if you guys would prefer.)).

There was a small glitch, of course- how was James to fetch the iron box if he was mentally instable? It would have to be worked out, but it was nothing that Wolfbar's genius could not conquer.

He set to work, ready to defeat the challenge at hand with merciless calculation, the way the ever-awesome Lord Voldemort would.

((Sorry, I just called Voldy "ever-awesome," something only Bellatrix, a Death Eater (which she is), or TNO (blah, blah, u...) would do. ;D))

((I love Wolfbar more and more. And I agree with you about James. Also, for the mentally unstable issue, I would suggest an Imperius curse...?

Also, haha, I can't picture Bellatrix EVER saying "ever-awesome" in any context, ever. Me, on the other hand... XD

Also also, for purposes of not breaking JKR's rules of NO REINCARNATION (assuming we're going with my idea, of course) shall we say that I was, in fact, correct that the bit of Voldy's soul that was ensconced inside Harry survived Harry's "death", and that Bellatrix was not actually killed, merely knocked out and everyone thought she was dead, and she escaped before they could burn/bury her or whatever they did with all the bodies...? Then she could meet up with Wolfbar, help him get to Voldy's remains (we'll assume that the box also contains the shred of Voldy's soul...) and perform a ritual like Pettigrew performed in Goblet of Fire? Yes?

Of course that would mean that James really DOES go insane, but perhaps we could squirm around that with the Imperius curse... I mean in HBP there was that one Muggle who got Imperius and went mad, presumably he snapped out of it once the curse was successfully removed... So they Imperius James, he gets the box, is stark raving mad... Then someone could uncurse him and he'd be sane, if a little worse for wear? Or he could still be insane but Hazel and Albus get him to St. Mungo's, where there are qualified wizard doctors who can coax him back into sanity?

Well we'll figure it out eventually, eh?

Also, just to be clear, are we going with my idea (that is, bring Voldy back/Bellatrix wasn't really dead, and then they reform?))

 Sounds good.

*********

Students were rushing out of all places, going to their common rooms to hear what was amiss.I was nearly trampled on my way out of the library. Unfortunately the common rooms were in completely different directions. I ran in to the eldest Potter boy & we both fell down. I apoligized, grabbed my things and was about to leave when something caught my eye.

((Ooh, a cliffhanger. ...I am sad now. What did you see?!))

//Felicitas' POV//

The rumors were flying around the common room when Lillian and I arrived. I heard the name Bellatrix Lestrange mentioned several times.

"Who's Bellatrix Lestrange?" I whispered.

Lillian bit her lip. "Apparently she was a crazy supporter of Voldemort. But she's supposed to be dead!"

((You know how dog years aren't like human years? Maybe it's the same thing with wizards. Yeah, JKR isn't good at math. They don't teach math at Hogwarts, though, perhaps that's why?))

More than ever, I wanted to go home now. I wish I'd never heard of Hogwarts, or wizards, or anything like that. "Bellatrix Lestrange..." I turned the name over and over in my mind. We sat, silent, for a long time.

"What does she want with us? Why?" I asked the air - who of course did not answer. Albus, who was my source on everything in the Wizarding world, was in the boys' dormitory.

The minutes crept by.

((Haha, yeah, not catching that 36 is much more than seven years younger than 47... Oh well we love her anyway!))

//Felicitas' POV//

The aura of fear that hung in the air was getting to me. I had no idea what this... Bellatrix Lestrange had done to inspire such a reaction, but I was sure it was very, very bad.

Albus suddenly appeared in the common room, looking pale and scared. He slid through the maze of people to where we stood. "Have you heard?" he asked.

"Bellatrix Lestrange?" Lillian said, her voice high. "Is it true?"

Albus shrugged. "Dunno. But dad's just arrived, so it's probably very serious, even if it isn't her."

"What exactly did she do?" I asked. "Did she kill someone, or something?"

Albus shook his head. "Lots of people, actually. But her specialty was torture."

"I heard she tortured two people into madness after the first war," said Lillian.

"And whoever conjured a Dark Mark last night killed three people and drove two others into madness," Albus added.

I shivered.

Bellatrix Lestrange stood just outside of the Hogwarts bounds, staring across the lake at the castle. She gripped her wand tightly, irrational anger boiling in her chest.

Harry Potter was inside that castle. Harry Potter was there because of the Dark Mark she had shot into the sky last night. Harry Potter was there to protect the students, to protect his family.

She bit back a snarl of frustration. The pathetic, blood-traitor brat who had killed the man she loved was a mere kilometer away, and she was incapable of reaching him.

She closed her eyes, remembering, the stinging pain, the surprise as the curse hit her full-on... That awful scream as she fell... And then waking up an indeterminable time afterwards, screaming for the Dark Lord... A shudder ran down her spine.

Ironic, how he'd gone so far down the path to immortality, and yet she had outlived him, not once but twice. The cruel irony of it made her want to scream, to hit something, anything.

Bellatrix drew a deep, shuddering breath, composing herself. She would get Harry Potter later, of that she was certain... For now she had a more pressing concern.

There were rumors of a slightly mad youth with a burning affection for the Dark Arts - and the knowledge of the whereabouts of the Dark Lord's grave. Since the moment she had heard the whispers she hadn't been able to get the thought out of her mind. The Dark Lord had one Horcrux remaining, if her sources were correct. Chances were good that he would be hanging about where they buried his remains. There was a chance yet...

She drew a deep breath, and Apparated to the other side of the Hogwarts grounds. Wolfbar Rangon, that was the boy's name...

((Er, yes, we're ignoring the fact that she's 66 years old by now. Which is even slightly canon, I guess, since JKR has a touch-and-go relationship with math, too.))

((Is TNO's (u-m-l-a-u-t...) writing so good that I actually feel SORRY for Bellatrix L.? *considers* Why yes, I believe so!

I don't like the idea of them turning good, because where's the point of Voldy if he's GOOD, and besides I don't think that's possible- didn't Dumbledore say so?- but otherwise all of TNO's other idea sound perfect.

Bellatrix's age has been cut in half, down to 36, because, I dunno, how about after Voldy died and all she got really depressed and needed a hobby, so she turned to (among other less unsavory activities) experimenting with aging potions and now looks, feels, and basically is in her thirties. Good?))

Wolfbar had, nautrally, easily overome the problem about James' insanity- a simple Impervious curse would do the trick nicely. Most young men Wolfbar's age didn't know any curses worse than the Unforgivables, but to Wolfbar it was an everyday thing to practice evil charms that were worth worse than the death penalty.

So that was done. He'd then needed a break, so he'd pulled out a cheap wizarding romance novel, which was to him as plopping down in front of the tube was to other men otherwise like himself. ((Because see, all these villains need flaws. With Eggwald it was bonbons. With Wolfbar it's cheap dime store romance novels. Bleck.))

When Voldemort's heart stopped, so did Bella's. When his soul was destroyed, so was hers. When his ingenious mind stopped working, she gave up on her own. It was pure agony for Bellatrix, but she could not bring herself to stop hoping, hoping that perhaps the love who had never- could never- be hers might still be alive.

((*GAGS*GAGS*GAGS* I'm sorry. That was really, really awful writing and content. Throw in the name and it sounded almost as bad as Smeyer.))

Wolfbar let out a contented sigh. He just loved the tragedies.

Then he shook himself. WHAT! If this woman was still alive, she could be his tool to reaching the Dark Lord, the Great One himself! She would do anything! She would know everything! With the right sog, it would be simple!

He sat down and pulled out a quill to write letters to some acquiantances...

Dear Mr. Borgan...
