Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Book Club!!!
I think it...

I think it would be really cool to have a book club on this thread, where we all read one book every 3 weeks or month or whatever you guys want and talk about it here! Please let me know if you want to join and what books you'd want to read and what time we should have to read the book. If you want you could list genres you like and we could find a book from there.

I'm fine with LGBTQA+ themes!

Also, if the book we do choose makes you uncomfortable- if you think there's too much romance or violence or you don't think it's appropriate for you right now, feel free to skip it and voice your thoughts.

Also, I can  provide content warnings ( i.e., if there's romance or some violent scenes I'll let you guys know) if anyone wants them!

I cant wait to start!

Bibliophile,

A book club is a great idea, but you will need to pick a book that is acceptable to all CBers, that is appropriate in content for ages 9 to 14, and that respects our rule against discussions of sexual themes or violence. It is not enough just to provide content warnings.

I'm sorry to be the party pooper here, but yes, I definitely would rather not read something with LGBTQ+ characters or topics.

No problem, Leeli! I just wanted to check because I know it's against some religions and stuff

This sounds fun.  I"m joining.

By the way, there are so many good books out there WITH and WITHOUT those themes.

I'd prefer not to read something with a ton of romance, but other than that, I don't really mind what book we read.

Here are a couple of books that I'd recommend. They all fit within a 11 -13 year old age range, but if y'all would like books for a younger age, let me know! Also let me know if you've read the book already!

Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms by Katherine Rundell (All Ages)

A girl raised in the wilds of Africa has a hard time adjusting to her new boarding school in far away and dreary England.

Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasly (All Ages)

Micah goes on a journey to find the mysterious Circus Mirandus to collect a miracle and save his sick grandfather.

Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein (All Ages)

12 kids are invited to participate in an epic library escape game filled with puzzles, riddles, and book puns!

Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo (All Ages)

Raymie trains to win the Little Miss Tire competition to bring her father back while making new friends and discovering new things in the process

The Left Handed Fate by Kate Milford (All Ages)

Lucy Bluecrowne and Max Ault are on a mission to find the parts of a magical machine until their ship is seized by American sailors.

Write This Down by Claudia Mills (All Ages)

Autumn seeks revenge after her older brother reads her love poems aloud to his bandmates.

Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzergald (All Ages)

Theodora's grandfather leaves her what seems to be a stolen Raphael, and she and her newfound friend try to solve the mystery of what to do with it.

Tumbling by Caela Carter (12+)

Twelve gymnasts fight for five spots at the team USA Olympic trials.

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter (13+ for more YA feel)

Vassa is sent by her stepsisters on a dangerous mission to pick up lightbulbs from Baba Yaga's convenience store chain, where shopping goes wrong and she has to complete three impossible tasks for Baba Yaga with the help of a magical doll.

Wolf by Wolf (13+ for more YA feel)

In a world where the Nazis won World War II, Yael has the power to shapeshift and is sent on a secret mission: to win the race and kill Hitler

~~~
@Leeli, I'm not completely sure if any of these have LGBTQ+ themes, so they might have some mentions, sorry.
@Everyone else, these are all mostly historical/realistic fiction books, and little to no romance
I loved Raymie Nightingale, Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library, and Circus Mirandus. We should probably stay away from the more YA books like those bottom three. Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms sounds interesting!
I've read Circus Mirandus and Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, and I loved them. I would be fine with using those books, and Tumbling also sound insteresting.
I've read Mr. Lemoncello's Library countless times. It's one of my favorite books of all time! I haven't read any of the other books on that list though.
It seems like a lot of us have already read Mr. Lemoncello's Library, so maybe not that one. What about Circus Mirandus? I, personally, would be okay with rereading. I don't know about everyone else, though.
