Since I can't

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Princess Academy
Since I can't...

Since I can't find Grace's, let's start again. This will be the official first thread for the book club discussion! Here are some questions to get us started.

1. What do you think of the book so far? What is good about it? What don't you like?

2. Who is your favorite character so far?

3. If you, like me, haven't read it before, where do you think Shannon Hale is going with the plot? In other words, what do you think will happen next?

4. What are some themes you can find from reading the first few chapters?

I'm staying with two chapters, because no one has decided yet. As I said in one of the other threads, if anyone gets behind, they can catch up on the weekend, or whenever.

For those of you who don't know, we should be on chapter twelve on friday. if anyone has any Qs, complaints, or suggestions, I'm open to options, if not, let's carry on as we are.

I'm confused at some of the plot though. I'm not really understanding what this 'quarry-speech' thing is... can anyone explain it?

I think that quarry-speech is when someone sends out a familiar thing to someone, in their mind. And then they somehow hear it. Like Gerti remembering Miri in the closet. gerti eard arat wile she was in the closet. And when Miri heard it, she somehow sent a memory to Gerti. And I think tahts what quarry-speech is. I don't know if i'm correct. You might want to double check with Laura. And, Most likely, you didn't understnd what I just typed.

Yes, that sounds right. Have you read chapter... uh... I think it's ten... because it explains it a little in there. She explains it to Bena and Esa. :)

I again accidentally starting reading the next chapter last night. It's a very good thing I've read it before, and already know what's happening then. Ok, so I'm reading to chapters eleven and twelve today. As I said, anyone who's behind can catch up on sat. :)

I'm up to Chapters 17 and 18 today. It's getting really good. Fantasy isn't usually my genre, but Shannon Hale is a good writer! But was anyone else confused by Marda's accident? I thought she had died.

Wait, seventeen and eighteen???  Am I behind???????  I thought we were reading to sixteen today.  Hmm...

You know what I think?  I think, that because we're all so scatterbrained, we should set a date to finnish by, and then it wouldn't matter who's on what chapter when, except that we all have to be done by then.  This is probably a stupid idea, I mean, we wouldn't be able to discuss until said date, but it might be worth a shot.

Ok, going by my calendar, we should be done approximately on the fourth of july.  Does that work??  Please say what you think.  I just feel we need to make some sort of arrangement, because this is a mess, which is ok, because it's our first time, but we need to sort out our glitches, so that next time, it won't be so hectic.  Right???

Lena, did you read on, or for saturday?  Cause I think we had dubbed that a holiday.

Um, yeah, I did. Sorry, I didn't know! And it's so good! *blushes*

It's ok.  Practically everyday I accidentally read into the next chapter before I realize I've been reading for an oddly long time.  So then I check back on the last chapter I read.  :|

Oh well.  :P  I know it's hard, but you can just skip today, or tomorrow...  :)

Very hard. But I'll skip today.

So Saturday's a holiday? To me reading IS a holiday, but that's okay. :)

In my opinion Quarry speech is almost liking talking to each other in your minds. Almost like you would imagine mind reading to be like, except the stone is what connects them and makes this possible. Plus, to understand a message, it must be of a memory that you both shared. Does that make sense?

Oopsy. I meant Frid, not Bena.

I like Doter (is that her name?).  She's nice.  I think that Miri might get chosen by the prince, but then she refuses him because she loves Peder.  I like Peder.  He seems to like Miri to me.  And Miri likes him.  I think that Lidia (or what ever her nam is), Bena, or Katar is gong to get chosen.  Probably the prettiest girl.  Maybe Britta will get married to the prince!  She might be the reason that the priests or whatever picked that villlage.  Because of Britta, a half lowlander.  Maybe.  There could be a lot of things that were happening.
