The NEW Ask

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

The NEW Ask

The NEW Ask Admin Thread!

Hi admins, I was going to ask this on the old thread but couldn't find it so here's the new one!

so my question is: how did you become admins?

Thanks, Violet (wishing myself across the world)
(Why is this so big? I just copy and pasted!)

Admin: First of all, we were not born Admins. We becoming Admins may or may not have had to do with a Lady rising out of a Lake and granting us an Admin sword to take shifts sharing. Also, we all work on Cricket magazine, and therefore cricketmagkids.com site, and therefore the Chatterbox.

Through my time here, I've participated in them, but never actually understood the difference\what they are: RR, RP, all those.

A RR stands for Round Robin. It is a progressive story where we take turns writing the story.

A RP stands for Role Play. It is when you make your own character and write from his/her point of view.

Please write this on the CB dictionary project thread; it's in Down to Earth.

@Admins

While looking through old posts an instant chat was mentioned. Do you think we could try having an instant chat this summer since school is out?

Admin: I don't think we have the technology for a text-message style private chat box (or chatroom). Or do you mean something else?

I meant something else. In the old Ask the Admin page Elizabeth mentioned something about an instant chat where the admins would be on at a certain time on one specific date. That would give us the opportunity to almost reply to another instantly. Sorry for the confusion.

What this girl means is... Ah, I won't bother wasting keystrokes explaining. Look at these two threads:

http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/113673

http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/17384

I hope sometime we will do it again! Admins, how about we set a date for sometime in July? There are time zone converters on the Net, so that's one problem taken care of. We can all specify threads where you can find us beforehand, or create a thread for the Instant Chat. The only catch is, we'd have to keep reloading the page as the Admin posted our messages. So... Admin?

We're discussing it. Ask again in a couple weeks and we'll set a date and time. Right now I'll say that about 3 or 4 pm Central Daylight Time for about an hour on a Monday or Wednesday would be good for me.

Okay, Admin, sounds great. I'm in the Eastern Time Zone, if that's any help.

Well, we'll let you query others about what time of day is best. We can probably do an hour beginnning about 1, 2, 3, or 4 CDT pm on a Wednesday. See if you can figure out which start time is best for the most interested people. (You'll get summer math practice dealing with the various time zones!)

@Admin: If you're working at Cricket on another job and you want to be an Admin, do you, like apply or volunteer for the job? And how often do you get new Admin dudes?

Another question: Can you please post a screenshot of the interface where you see our comments? Assuming you know how to post images. If you don't know, you just put them somewhere else, on a different site, then right-click on them and select "Copy Image". Then when you're typing and you're up to the point you want the image, hit Ctrl+V together. That will copy the image into your message.

The managers just decide who should do which jobs/tasks. We've all been hired for other positions, then one of the responsibilities of the position is to monitor Chatterbox. We rarely get new Admins. Two of us have been here since it started. The third position has changed once when the former person left to pursue a Master's degree.

Admin, I am thoroughly annoyed that another of my threads was deleted.

It's not an appropriate topic for all our readers.

@admin: :-D :-D :-D thanks!

Also, the instant (almost) chat thingy sounds like fun! I think summer is a good time because TN schools are out. (At least the ones I know of) :-) I hope we can maybe do one this summer :-)

Thanks, Violet (wishing myself across the world)

(@Admin: why does the above text enlarge when I copy and paste it from the notes app on my iPod?)

P.S. SpamBox says "aaee" 'aaieee'? Ahhhhhh! Run for your lives! Giant Un-Identified Cyber Things!

I have no idea why some text appears larger, however, often when we post it, it goes back to normal size.

@admin: There is a promblem with this thread:

http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/92119

Whenever i try and look at the second page on it, the screen loads as a blank white page. Any ideas why it might do that?

Thanks, Violet (wishing myself across the world)

I've just passed your comment on to our Webmaster, Violet. We Admins have no idea what might be wrong.

@Admins

Something strange happened today. When I went to my mailbox to look for Cricket (for me) and a Spider (for my brother), I pulled out two Spiders and no Crickets! One Spider was addressed to my brother and the other to me. So, I have no July-August Cricket.

I've already sent an email to Cricket by clicking on Contact at the bottom of the page. Was that the right place to send it?

We got your message at cricket@cricketmagkids.com today, and it was forwarded to customerservice@caruspub.com. Customer service should send you a Cricket and correct the mailing error for the future. What you did was fine. Or you can phone the 800 number on the inside front cover of any of your magazines. Sorry for the mixup!

Admin

P.S. Customer Service may not answer you about the extra Spider part. I suggest you pass it on to someone of the appropriate age, or donate it to a public or school library, a hospital, or a doctor's or dentist's office.

Random question: How many issues of Cricket are there in one volume?

It's been bugging me . . .

Admin: The early volumes had between 9 & 12, generally 12. Since (about) 2008 (?) it's been 9 a year: monthly except for bimonthly May/June, July/August, and November/December issues.
