Has anyone heard of the growth mindset? Of not being afraid of failure? Of wanting to TRY AGAIN after you fail?
No? Well, look it up. Growth mindset.
The Politics Thread was a failure. We all know this. It was unorganized, resulting in a lot of confusion and hurt feelings. It was a first attempt, and like many first attempts, it didn’t work.
However, as a person with a growth mindset, my natural instinct was to find the problem, learn from it, and FIX IT! And TRY AGAIN!
Please, may I ask, why not try after you fail? Why not get up after you trip?
When I tried to restart the Debate Thread, (and, BTW, we’re debating about Harry Potter, which isn’t offensive like the stuff about being “privileged” to get arrested for stuff white people aren’t even fined for *coughcoughcough*) I saw an OVERLOAD of the fixed mindset. I saw stuff like, “This is gonna fail, why bother”, “Oh, the last one failed, we can’t try again”, “If we never try, we’ll never fail!” Well, those are the simplified versions of them, anyway.

Well, don’t give up. Don’t give in until you reach the end. Try, try everything, try even though you could fail.
Failure is not permanent.
I’ve analyzed the Politics Thread. I learned from our mistakes. In my head, I devised a way to make it work. I KNOW why the Politics Thread went wrong. And I KNOW how to succeed.
I just need to try.
As the saying goes, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!”
A lot is at stake here, you know.
I think that if you give up, it proves you have a fixed mindset. It proves that you give up. It proves that your brain is stuck into a little box, and can’t grow because it’s too afraid of failure.
But if you persist, if you attempt again, I think it proves you have a GROWTH mindset. It proves that you persevere. It proves that your brain is free, and can stretch and grow because it’s not afraid of failing, or anything.
So why the fixed mindset?
I have used the word “try” the second most in this writing piece so far, the most being the word “the”. I did this on purpose. It is, by far, the most important, and I don’t want to use synonyms. No, I do not care about redundancy right now.

Mei, good point. People! Debates are fine. The topics are fine. Even the people are fine. It is the unnecessarily hurtful comments which make it hard. If you can't discuss something without getting upset, hurt, or irrational, don't debate. Stay calm and walk away. I am all for more debates. Sign me up for the next one, Mei.

I TOTALLY agree with the person "....."
Believe me, expressing opinions is completely fine, but going back and forth with major INSULTS is just ridiculous.
Yes, there will ALWAYS be someone who misinterprets a comment, takes some too literally, etc.
We can control what we say, but not of that of others. And yes, we can think about what we say, but STILL. Sometimes people just slip up when saying something, by accident or otherwise.
I admittedly still have no idea how to say meaningful things in just a blink of an eye. That's why most of the speeches I make are terrible and rushed. And why the things I say are weird. I still have no idea how you guys do it.
As for debating, I'm okay with that. The only reason I won't join is because I'm bored with debating and fast-paced stuff.

Mei, all I have to say is, keep the debates friendly, fictional, and respect others' opinions. Keep them more like discussions. Because the CB is like a dinner table. Every thread is a good meal. The CBers are all enjoying themselves and talking. But the two things you shouldn't bring up at the dinner table are religion and politics. Grownups made that saying. Because talking about those things, even in the grownup world, results in fighting.

I'm sorry if this sounds rude, but what is it that you even want to debate? I agree with It's a Secret- Politics and Religion aren't something we should bring onto the CB. I guess fictional debates would be okay, but really, I'm not sure that people want to get involved in this stuff.
Just because I'm not sure this is a good idea doesn't mean I have a fixed mindset. I think we should try to grow and change, but in other ways, maybe. I get that you want to try this again, but someone will always take a comment wrong, and it will get out of hand and people will be hurt. I guess if you have to debate, keep it fictional.

I agree about the whole "you guys are all fixed mindsets, Gared and I are growth mindsets!" thing. Don't manipulate us like that.
And honestly? I do kind of agree that you're a bully. If anyone has the fixed mindset, you do, because we asked you to please use nicer words and you haven't. You haven't tried to improve. You're set in your ways, just like you think WE are.
