Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

I AM NEW.Ple

I AM NEW.

Please help me. I have many questions. I'm sure they get old when all the new CBers ask them over and over again, but I promise that I will catalog your answers in my heart and Microsoft word. Then when I am the metaphoricall gray-haired CBer, I promise to pass them on to new CBers.

1.  What is an AE? May I have one?

2. I am fairly certain CAPTCHA has something to do with the letters you type in to prove you're not a robot, but what is the significance of that? How does one use them?

3. Am I allowed to join a roleplay after they have already started the writing?

4. Are there etiquette rules I should know?

5. What is a good way to introduce myself?

6. Do threads eventually disappear?

7. CBers, introduce yourselves! I would love to meet you.

8. I notice that Inkwell is mainly writing, as it was meant, but Chirp at Cricket is not only about the magazine. What do people normally post in each...category? What are those called?

Any answers and advice are much appreciated!

 Welcome, Brown Bear!

1. Alter Ego ("other I"). You can create your own, a character to show a different side of your personality.

2. Just type the letters in. The selection is random.

 3. Usually not, but you could ask the person who created the thread.

4. Comments must be respectful and kind.

5. Just tell us a bit about yourself.

6. Threads remain forever, but sometimes they are hard to find because there are so many!

I'll let someone else answer the rest. It's late and there are other comments waiting to be reviewed and posted.

Hi, Brown Bear!

Welcome to the CB. I am AutumnArtist :) (Formerly Katnisslover:))

I you have any questions, ask me! Although I joined at the beginning of December 2016, I know a lot about Cricket if you need help with anything!

I can't wait to get to know you a little more in the next few months!

(Also, if you could please comment on my threads that say "Submitted by Katnisslover:)" or "Submitted by AutumnArtist:)", that would be awesome!

Welcome!

Your New Friend,

1. An AE is a character you create who is usually an aspect of yourself. You can post what they say in certain AE threads. Recently there's been a lot of drama around their crushes, which is fun to orchestrate. They're a way for us to have some fun being someone other than ourselves. Of course you may have one, but I wouldn't suggest having more than three.

2. A captcha is an often adorable character that you create who says the CAPTCHA at the bottom of the page. You can adopt one by giving it a name and appearance.

3. If there are only a few posts, or if the person who made it says that they still want more people, it's usually okay. Just ask politely.

4. Don't get personal during debate threads. Talk about ideas, but don't insult individuals.

5. I think the Admins are right.

6. After one post, threads often go to the back pages, but if you post on them again, they rise to the top.

7. Hello, I'm Applejaguar. I think I'm pretty smart (not to blow my own kazoo or anything), and sensitive (in a not-so-good way). I'm confusing, I like to share my ideas, and I think the world is beautiful but very flawed. I'm a persnickety activist, actress, writer, and grammarian, but I also brag and worry and care what people think of me. I use parentheses a lot. You'll have to figure out the rest yourself. (heeeheeeheeeee)

8. There's a pretty good answer to this on the thread that elementgirl gave you a link to.

Don't trust everything I say, though, I'm only a small part of the CB.

Welcome! I like you already.

Nice to meet you, Applejaguar! Your description of yourself shares a lot of similarities with my own. I hope to see you more around the Chatterbox.

On a very thinly related note, I once saw a whole choir (band?) play Star Wars on kazoos. It was truly magical.

Hi! Welcome to the CB! I'm Ember. Here's some answers to your questions:

1. As the Admins said, an AE is an alter ego. They're like a different version of you. Normally they talk in bold or italics. Of course you can make one! There's a lot of AE chat threads and stuff like that around to introduce them on.

2. The CAPTCHA is just so no spam is posted. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, Admins) Some people pretend that they are characters (normally pets) and they talk via the box at the bottom of the pot page. All you have to do is type the letters you see in the box into the typing area beneath it.

3. Not usually, but you can ask whoever made the RP.

4. As the Admins said, your posts should only be kind and appropriate for nine year olds. Other than that, none that I can think of currently.

5. Just like on a thread like this, you can say hi, and be you! A thread like this is also a good place for other CBers to say hi to you!

6. Threads, as the Admins said, are here for good, but are sometimes pushed to the back pages of the different parts of the CB.

7. As I said previously, I'm Ember. I'm 13, 14 in May, love to draw and write, and love meeting new people! Just a warning, I can be weird... Lol. Anyway, I'll go to the next question.

8. Inkwell is normally just for writing. Puddings Place is mostly used for art and theater and Ski Lodges. Down to Earth is just really to talk about what's going on in the world. Blab about Books is pretty self explanatory. Chirp at Cricket is used to talk to other people and just random fun threads!

Whoo, that took a while. Anyway, if you have any more questions, just fire away. Nice to meet you!

Thank you so much for answering my questions so thoroughly! I think I'm gonna like it here...*breaks into the song from Annie*

As you may have guessed, I can be weird too. May our eccentricities flow freely together in harmony.

No prob! I just joined in November, so I know what it's like to be new.

Yay! Another weird person! Lol. I am extremely strange, but I love being like that! Anyway, I love your screen name too!

Hello, brown bear! Its awesome to meet you!

1. AE stands for Alter Ego. You make an AE to display the other side of your persomality eg. Sarcastic, hyper, boring ect.

2. You are excactly right! Most CBers name theyre CAPTCHAs as pets and sigh at theyre badd speling.

3. Usually not, but you can ask.

4. Be kind a b d respectful and dont impersonate other CBers.

5. When I was new to thee CB, I made an Im New thread, and glt lots of welcoming replies.

7. No, they dont they just go through the pages and remain there. We have some thre as ds from 8 years ago, I think.

8. Have a look in FAQ at the top of the page. It will answer most of your questions. But Chirp at Crickrt isn't actually just to talk about the mag. You can really talk about anything there.

Welcome! You can call me BookBug, BookBuggy or BB. I have a feeling we're going to be good friends!

Welcome, Brown Bear! I know there is a lot to the CB to understand, so I will try to answer as well as possible. Also, here is the link for more precise answers to the things you ask: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/204967

1. An AE (or Alter Ego) is used here basically as a character you role play as on certain threads. Sometimes they show a different side of your personality, sometimes not. It's kinda hard to explain... Oh, but they usually talk in either italics, bold, or a combo of both. And yes, you can have one!

2. CAPTCHAS are used here similar to the AEs, but they usually just talk rubbish. Consider it like a pet for your AEs.

3. It depends. Some AEs (like the Boarding School RP) you can join in while it's going. But usually, this is not the case. Just ask and see!

4. Try and finish any role plays you start, and if you have to leave, please do say that. Also, be kind and nice. There are smaller details in the link I said, but that's the basics.

5. Just introduce yourself in any way! Maybe explain what you like doing, etc.

6. Threads are always here. We use words like "top" or "poke" in comments to make them go to the first page again. If you cannot find a thread, google in "site: cricketmagkids.com [thread name/keyword]".

8. Well, the purpose of CB changed over time. I don't know much about This Month. I believe it is for discussing the magazine. Chirp at Cricket (also called CaC) is often used for AEs or general discussion. It is rarely used for the original purpose. You can also find games on there too. Down to Earth (also called DtE) is used for discussing life, problems, AE stuff, competitions, and games. It's purpose changed slightly as well. Pudding's Place (also called PP) is used for theater, movies, and things like that. People sometimes put SI's (secret identity) games on there too. Blab about Books (also called BaB) is for books. Book reviews, book analysis, talking about books and characters, etc. And as you saw, Inkwell is for writing stories, role plays, and things like that. Although people sometimes post poetry elsewhere so it doesn't get lost.

Hope this helps, and welcome!

Welcome, Brown Bear! I am Cockleburr!

1.  What is an AE? May I have one? An AE stands for Alter Ego. Basically, it's an original character you create and then write for.

2. I am fairly certain CAPTCHA has something to do with the letters you type in to prove you're not a robot, but what is the significance of that? How does one use them? Yes, CAPTCHA stands for, I think, Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart. It's that little thingy you have to fill out before posting. Many CBers (people who use the CB) give theirs names. Mine's named Eevee.

3. Am I allowed to join a roleplay after they have already started the writing? Usually not, with a few rare exeptions or if the creator says that people may continue joining the RP after it has started. Be sure to read the whole thing before joining in the middle, so you know what's going on. Always ask respectfully, and get an affirmative response before posting your charrie.

4. Are there etiquette rules I should know? The only ones I can think of are the rules I told you in answering question three and to be respectful of other people and oppinions. But you seem like a pretty great person, so I'm not worried! :)

5. What is a good way to introduce myself? Like this! Hi! Consider yourself introduced!

6. Do threads eventually disappear? They are pushed to the back, but unless an Admin deletes one it will stay forever.

7. CBers, introduce yourselves! I would love to meet you. Hi! As I said, I'm Cockleburr! I love gymnastics, reading, drawing, and writing! I can't wait to get to know you!

8. I notice that Inkwell is mainly writing, as it was meant, but Chirp at Cricket is not only about the magazine. What do people normally post in each...category? What are those called?

Inkwell: Writing. Roleplays, round robins, solo writes, et cetera.

Pudding's Place: Art, poetry, ski lodges, Secret Identities (SIs) and other games go here!

Down to Earth: What's going on in your life? Worried about something? Your supportive CB family is here to help! This is also home to spontanious threads that you can't fit elsewhere. Random stuff.

Blab about Books: If you want to talk (read as: fangirl) about a new favorite book, share one you're writing, or talk about a fandom then come here!

Chirp at Cricket: Originally supposed to be for talking to the cricket country crew, (I've heard) but has since evolved into random stuff that you want to discuss. Most AE threads are here.

This Month: Want to talk about the new mag? Congratulate people on getting published? Go there! Be forewarned: it is the least active area of the CB.

Have fun, Brown Bear!

Hi Brown Bear! I'm Leeli! Animal Lover, Homeschooler, Christian, baker, writer, bookworm, and a lot more that I don't have time to mention! I have two dogs, two hamsters, a fish, seven chickens, and a lamb that lives on a farm next to my house. I live in Corbin Kentucky. I would answer your questions, but it looks like lots of people have already given great answers, not to mention the useful link. As for the RPs, though, I always try to let late people join, and I'd love it if you joined my Labyrinth City RP! It's the one that starts with ... On inkwell. Welcome to the CB! I hope we get to know each other better!

Hi Brown Bear! Welcome to the CB. I am Nebula. I wont awnser your questions because everyone else already did. These are my AEs, Grey, Doublock, and Niccolai.

Grey: Hello!

Niccolai: Must we introduce ourselves to every new CBer?

Doublock: Nick! Be nice! Is it that hard to introduce yourself politely?

Niccolai: Yes.

Sigh... Anyway, AEs are usually loudmouths and love to argue. On the other hand, Captchas are usually very nice and quiet. They speak only in four letter words. Mine is named Chatter, he is a fire salamander.

Chatter: hllo (Translation: Hello)

Welcome again, hope you stick around!
