PET PEEVES--

PET PEEVES

----------------

Alright, so we all have pet peeves! What are a few of yours?

One of mine is when something is canceled at the last minute.

I'm probably driving the Admins crazy by posting so much today. Sorry about that Admins!

That's OK. No problem!

My pet peeves are when someone uses incorrect grammar. Here are some examples:

Incorrect: Adam is meeting Joe and I. or Adam is meeting me and Joe.

Correct: Adam is meeting Joe and me.

Incorrect: I did bad on the test.

Correct: I did badly on the test.

Incorrect: The big bird and it's chicks walked to the pond.

Correct: The big bird and its chicks walked to the pond.

Incorrect: The heat wave will effect the lives of animals.

Correct: The heat wave will affect the lives of animals.

I hate when I'm about to say something and then someone else does before me, kind of like: Me: I'm a little bored, so- Other Person: Maybe go to ******* Park? Me: That's what I was going to say! Rrrrrrrr...

I can definitely relate! That happens all the time.

I get annoyed when people say "I could care less" when they don't care about something because it doesn't make any sense! Shouldn't it be "I couldn't care less?"

Totally. I almost always say "couldn't" just because of the whole logical complexities behind the issue and - I am rambling again, ignore me. xD

Yes! Thank you! "I couldn't care less," is the only grammatically correct option. "I could care less," implies that, in fact, you care about the thing! One of the things that annoys me so much is that in Beyonce's Single Ladies (and proabbly other songs, I don't know) it says "I could care less what you think," and every time I hear it (although I love that song), I want to yell, "COME ON BEY, THAT'S NOT GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT!!! ARRGGHHH!!!!" Well, you can see why I'm planning on becoming an English professor. XD

I'm going to have to give an example for this. It really confuses me when people do this.

Me: "We don't have any peaches, right?"

Mom: "No."

Me: "And we don't have any strawberries, right?"

Mom: "Yes"

Except she always means that no we do NOT have peaches. Because "no" in that context should mean that we have peaches.

And in the case of the strawberries, she means that we have strawberries. When her answer would normally mean that we do not have strawberries.

Additionally, I hate the feeling of bad quality erasers.

Ahhh, so many pet peeves of mine!

For one, I despise certain textures, especially crumbs. I refuse to touch them, so I have to use a sponge when cleaning the counter and wipe the crumbs (using the sponge) into a bowl.

Second, I also really, really despise certain sounds. Chalkboards, scratching on leather (ugh I hear it in my head just thinking about it), scratching on fabric, whispering (see the next one), and "not solid" sounds. I'll explain that later.*

Whispering. Despise it. For one, I always feel people are talking about me, which is awful because if they are, it is never something good. And even if they aren't, I hate having information kept from me. If you want to talk privately, do it away from people. Please and thank you.

SLOW PEOPLE. No offense anyone, but I really get upset when people are slow. Not just people, but anything. Wifi slow? Get angry and shut off the PC. Person slow? I will do everything in my power to maneuver around them. Tea is taking too long to get ready? I either don't have tea or entirely forget about it until it is bitter.

I have more, but that's all for now!

Notes:

*Solid sounds vs non-solid sounds. I hate non-solid, which is soft and rough at once, panicky and uncontrollable. That is like the things I listed above: scratching on fabrics, chalks, and whispering. Solid sounds are the opposite, they are hard and simplistic and form a pattern or a system. Like clicking, alarms, whistles, these things never annoy me. I don't even blink standing 5 feet away from a train.

Oh and I can't stand the sound of Velcro being pulled apart! It makes my ears hurt.

Oh yes! It's a non-solid sound, so awful.

Plans being cancelled at the last minute is unfortunately something I kind of like...

As for my pet peeves:

Teachers doing this thing- "I need four boys to help me with carry some things" or something like that. I hadn't noticed how much our teacher did this until my friend pointed it out.

My sister pronouncing words wrong on purpose. It's getting old.

"Kids these days..."

When my mom is talking to a friend or something and she'll say "the girls..." or say "you guys" to us blaming me for something my sister did or vice versa.

People who act stupid in class.

Cursing for no reason (I understand if you're mad or upset or something, but people who cuss every five words... no)

REMIXES OF SONGS ON THE RADIO!! You see the name or hear the first few notes and then... it's so disappointing.

1. Unreliable people.

Me: Can you email me the quiz sheet for the presentation next week?

Other person: *No reply*

Me: Please email me the quiz sheet so I can put it in the script.

Other person: *No reply*

Me: Hey everyone in our group is depending on me to make sure all the oral components of the presentation are finished.  Everyone needs to know what questions they are asking the class.

Other person: *No reply*

Me:  YOU agreed to do this.  YOU agreed that YOU would make the quiz, and no one but YOU would organize the questions and answers.  If YOU don't email me this, it'll be YOUR fault!

Other person: You want me to email you the quiz sheet?

2. People who don't know famous authors.

Other person: What's your favorite book?

Me: House of Hades, by Rick Riordan!  It's SO awesome!

Other person: Isn't that book part of a series?

Me: Yeah, anything by Rick Riordan is basically in a series.

Other person: Who's Rick Riordan?

Person 3: Hey, I heard you were talking about books.

Me: Yeah, we are!  What's your favorite book?

Person 3: the whole Harry Potter series!

Other person: Who wrote that?

Person 3: You don't know who wrote the Harry Potter series?

Me: My favorite book is by Rick Riordan!

Person 3: Who's that?
