Hey guys, I

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Hey guys, I

Hey guys, I am new at the CB and love it already!

I am a colossal addict of reading and I love words. I like to cook in my free time aside from reading, playing the piano or percussion, and schoolwork. I am homeschooled so I have a lot of free time.To fellow homeschoolers what curriculums do you use? I use Sonlight for history, bible, literature, and science, Singapore for math, and Latin for Children for latin.Laughing

Welcome to the Chatterbox, PandaGirl!  I’m Peregrine.  I love playing violin, reading, writing, and spending time outdoors.  What are some of your favorite books to read?  My favorites include the Swallows and Amazons series by Arthur Ransome and J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.

For homeschooling curriculums I use Khan Academy for math, Duolingo for learning how to speak Chinese and my mom for learning how to write Chinese.  I use an ASL app to learn American Sign Language though that’s more of a hobby.  For the rest of our curriculum we use random books, museum visits, and tours.

Here is the link to the new Chatterbox Ultimate Guide compiled by Kitten.  It shares information on abbreviatons and words used here, some tips and etiquette, and the history of Chatterbox.  It was very helpful for me when I first joined.  I hope you find this helpful to you too.

Thanks for the kind welcome!!

I loved all of Linda Sue Park's children's novels including: A Single Shard, The Kite Fighters, and A Long Walk to Water. By Johann David Wyss, I liked The Swiss Family Robinson.( nonabridged) Nate Saint; On a Wing and a Prayer, by Janet and Geoff Benge was also one of my favorites. It is nearly impossible not to like the Harry Potter Series or any of Rick Riordan's works.

What are some of your favorite songs to play on the violin? My sister plays the violin.

I always enjoy playing Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins with my sister.  My favorite solo piece is G.F. Handel’s Larghetto from Sonata No.4 in D Major.  I love this piece so much.  I learned it years ago, and so far nothing else has replaced it.

I have always thought that classical music is beautiful on the violin.

I looked around on the CB before I made my post and figured that out (about the homeschooling) based on that and reading Cricket. Are you one ?  Isn't percussion so fun?

Hi PandaGirl! I’m homeschooled too! I also love reading. I’m not sure what curriculums we use, but right now my family is doing chemistry, world geography, and we are reading Watership Down. Welcome to the CB! I hope to see you around!

I've never heard of Watership Down but I just looked it up and found out that it has a movie too. Usually when a read-aloud that my family is reading has a movie than we kind of have that as a reward (not that we need one, Sonlight chooses books that you will always regret putting down) for when we finish the book. Do you homeschool year-round? We don't, but we started next year because then we will hopefully finish earlier next year when hopefully everything will be open and everyone is in school. I hope to read you around.

I do homeschool year round. I absolutely love it! We do do less school in summer, and take lots of breaks, but we are always learning! My family started the movie for watership down, but never finished it. We might now though.
