I think that's a violation of people's freedom. If they don't want to wear masks, they shouldn't have to, although we should all respect each others preferences.

No. A mask could save a life. Everyone should be wearing them, and no one should have a problem with it. It's not a "violation of people's freedom", it's being a good and respectful human being.

I think forcing people to wear them if they aren't is a violation of freedom, however small.

If you look at the Covid cases map, all the places in which people haven't been wearing masks there have been more cases and deaths. Yes, masks can be annoying but if you didn't notice we are in the middle of the largest pandemic in 101 years! It makes no sense that the US which has 1/16 of the global population has 1/3 of global cases. It makes no sense that they just shut down my school while people are still allowed at resturants, a place nobody wears masks! You can take of your mask when you are outdoors with nobody who isn't in your household near you. But not wearing a mask at all is a violation to the publics safety!

For goodness' sakes, this is an old, old comment and no one will ever see that I said this, except the Admin, but I just agree So Much and it makes me really happy that someone said this! I wish people were still saying it! It's all very well to say that wearing masks is a vioation of freedom but --   so is stopping your car when the street light is red, being polite, having laws so people don't commit crimes, having to go to bed on time, etc. If we start on about that, the world decays. There are certain things everyone has to do so that society can function!

Sorry, Admin, that this is a bit long.

No apology needed. You make a very good point.

Let's calm down.

Lupine was making a joke, k?

She's saying that if everyone wore a mask COVID would probably be gone by now, or at least we might have less cases. Which is a fair point.

She's not saying she's ACTUALLY going to go take over the the government (1. how would she do that XD) and make everyone wear a mask.

Mask wearing is a complicated issue. It's like... smoking. Smoking is not good for anyone. It's not good for the smoker, and it's not good for the people inhaling the smoker's smoke. Facts. But would MAKING everyone stop smoking be a violation of people's rights? Smoking is a public health risk, I think, but shouldn't people be free to do what they want? I don't know. It's a dilemma.

Mask wearing is the same: if someone isn't wearing one, they are creating a public health risk. But is FORCING everyone to do it a violation of rights? And also, how would we enforce that?

Because of our constitution, it's not a realistic expectation that everyone will wear a mask, no matter how many laws people put into place.

So it's really not worth arguing about, people.

And let's not forget a key fact:

Lupine was joking.

WOW. I had no idea my comment caused so much discussion! I agree with MoonHalo and whoever else said it, masks are super important right now and I feel like wearing one, even if you're far away from people and are outside, is kind of like telling them "I care enough about your safety to wear a mask around you." And like...don't y'all want COVID to end? I know I do. Anyway I don't want to argue with anyone but still.
