Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

ULTIMATE GUIDE

ULTIMATE GUIDE

Here is yet another ultimate guide! Without further ado, I'll launch in!

How to use the CB:

There are two ways to post on the CB. By creating a new thread, and by commenting on a post.

To create a new thread, open the section of CB that you want to post a thread on. On the left there will be a "Click here to talk about ___" button. Click that. Fill out the required information. The "title" of the thread will be the content on the first line, with some of it cut off if it is too long. DO NOT PRESS ENTER THEN START WRITING. If you do that, the title will appear as "...".

To post a comment, open the thread that you will post a comment on. There usually is an "Add New Comment" button at the bottom of the post, before all the comments. If there isn't, that means the Admins closed the thread to new comments due to the content of the thread, and thus it is impossible to comment. (See Vocabulary for more about Admins.) To upload a picture, there will be an art section near the bottom where you can choose the file and upload it. Make sure the photo is within chatterbox guidelines though. I will talk later about chatterbox guidelines.

To submit a thread or comment, you need to fill out the CAPTCHA at the bottom. CAPTCHA stands for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. This is to verify that you are a real person and to prevent computers from making Chatterbox comments (Which, by the way, would be very, VERY, bad). There are many kinds of CAPTCHAs, but this one works by giving you a sequence of five lowercase letters that you have to type in exactly in the slot. Remember to include no capital letters and no spaces in the reply, otherwise it won't accept it. And don't expect to get the same CAPTCHA twice: The chance of getting the same CAPTCHA twice is 1/11,881,376. There are 11,881,376 possible CAPTCHAs.

Vocabulary:

Chatterbox/ChatterBox: This place. Shortening of the Cricket Chatterbox.

CB: Abbreviation of the Cricket Chatterbox.

CBHP: Chatterbox History Project. Launched in 2023 by Sinusoidal to map out the entire history of CB.

CBM: Chatterbox Mail. Proposed in 2012 by A. S. and revived in 2023 by various CBers including Sinusoidal.

World Domination: A game in which CBers try to dominate the world by performing various virtual actions such as taking over McDonalds, disguising as other CBers to feed them pie, etc. Often, the means of domination is by having people eat a particular food that was scientifically edited to make them a slave of the CBer ruler.

RP: A game in which multiple CBers take turns writing a story from their character's perspective.

charrie: shortened version of character.

Ski Lodge: A story in which various CBers are invited to a resort and are killed one by one by an unknown murderer who is guessed as the story goes. NOTE: Ski lodges do involve non-graphic violence, so avoid them if you are sensitive emotionally. There was a big discussion around this: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/puddingsplace/node/544130

Solo Write: A game where CBers create charries and the writer uses them to create a story in multiple parts which is subsequently posted in chunks.

ah, i see threads: Recently invented threads in which CBers virtually throw various things. The traditional wording of an ah, i see thread is "ah, i see you clicked on this thread. *rips up handful of () and throws it at you* Feel free to retaliate.", where "()" is anything from grass to clay to even water or air. Invented by Darkvine, promoted extensively by Sinusoidal.

@: at character. Usually used to specify a particular CBer that something is being written to by putting the character before the recipient CBer's name and sometimes, after the sender CBers name.

Admins: The people who run this place. They make sure each comment is appropriate by deleting completely innapropriate posts, and editing ones that have some good parts and some bad parts. They also have the power to close threads for which further discussion is innapropriate and/or not helpful. The editing power allows them to reply to CBer's questions by editing the post to include their reply. Usually it is distinguished from the CBer's comment since the Admins can put it in italics. However, sometimes there is extensive horizontal spacing in the Admin's comments. Admins can also create posts and comments as CBers do, and always sign as "Admin". There are three admins that are interchangeable.

Impersonator: Someone who posts as another CBer. Since CB does not have accounts, anyone can post under any name. This is a BIG PROBLEM. Impersonating is when someone posts under a different CBer's name on purpose for various reasons, but most of it is to be mysterious, gain attention, and bully another CBer. It is NOT COOL, and DO NOT DO IT. I mean this very literally. There was a whole war about this.

Impersonator War: An era in which there was constant impersonation. It was an era of great fear, and many CBers were suspicious of every post, trying to figure out whether it was the real person or not. It was a scary era since it was impossible to tell who was who. Many posts asked the impersonator to stop or the admins to do something. Eventually, in 2020 (I think?) Sammy E., a past chatterboxer, discovered that the impersonator was one of their classmates and was successfully able to halt the impersonation. Later, the impersonator confessed with a unique name.

AE: Alter ego. An alternate self of a CBer that posts in bold, italics, or a combination of that, sometimes including symbols to start and end an AEs post. The AE can post alongside the CBer and is a kind-of CBer. CBers make up the AE and talk as them using the bold, italics, combination, or other.

CB rules

1. Be kind. All dissagreements should be respectful, and everyone's opinion's should be valued.

2. Do not post too mature content. Admins do not allow discussion of explicit romance or drugs. LGBTQIA+ topics are allowed as long as they do not surpass these limits. In other words, everything should be appropriate for a nine-year-old.

3.  Do not post objectional graphic detail or violence. Admins allow Ski Lodge-kind of things, but to a point. They do not alow graphic discussion of violence, or excessive violence in general.

4. Admins do not allow profanity or swear words.

There you have it! Please add anything I missed.

This is great! Maybe we can add certain parts of it (like CBM and CBHP) to the New Ultimate Guide just so it's all on one thread? (http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/chirpatcricket/node/443573)

this looks awesome, Sine! :D

just gonna put in some more detail:

fun facts: CAPTCHAs used to be four letters long, but were changed to five letters for security. also, the page number navigation (at the bottom of an opened thread) was only added sometime around April, 2009.

about Kyngdom

Kyngdom is basically a huge RP, big enough to have its own whole section of the CB. but, unlike the other sections (like Down to Earth or Blab about Books) it isn't located with the rest. to access it, you have to either be on the part of the CB that shows all six sections, or on Inkwell. for both of those, the Kyngdom button's on the left side.

at this point, I'm not really sure how 'alive' Kyngdom is. a while ago, Kyngdom was very dead, but some CBers tried to revive it. unfortunately it looks like it isn't doing so good.

Zoodle (plural ZOODLES)

ZOO-dul / ZOO-dulz

-a green, spiky snake that looks somewhat like a cucumber. they have adorable yellow eyes, a floofy tail tip that looks like a flower, and a comically pink tongue that always seems to be poking out. they also squeak instead of hiss. (picture attached at end of post.)

created by me (Darkvine) and Echo, Zoodles created a small war due to their temporary domination of Last-to-Post.

the Zoodle War

once the Zoodle domination began, a few people had started to try to destroy the Zoodles (mostly Darkling and Amethyst). soon, two threads appeared on DtE, Team Zoodle and the Anti-Zoodlers. the war went on for a while, but some CBers didn't like how Zoodles had taken over Last-to-Post, so me and Amethyst agreed to keep Zoodles off that thread. after that the war kinda drifted away.

despite the war itself being gone, the Zoodles themselves are still here, as pets, allies, and a fun little creature that's unique to the Chatterbox.

there's probably more stuff I should add, but that's it for now. I'll post some links to this kind of stuff later.

You can also just go to the Inkwell; write under the "Click here" is a link to the Kyngdom main page (it says "Enter the World of Kyngdom"). Still, this is useful :)
