Chatterbox: Crowd Sorcery

Fred Thread 5

Fred Thread 5

What are your favorite types of fantasy worlds? What kind of setting would you most like for our Crowd Sorcery story?

1. Medieval European-like: This is the setting of most fairy tales we know--kings, queens, knights, castles . . .

2. Original Fantasy Land: This is harder to do, because the land will be less familiar to readers--a land that's not like a real place or time period on Earth--but it can be lots of fun! Anything becomes possible, but we'd have to work all the harder at developing the world.

3. Classical World: How about a story in a fantasy Greece or Rome in the time of the gods, goddesses, and monsters like the Hydra, the Cyclops, or the Chimaera?

4. Not-So-Distant Past: What about a story in the era of carriages, lanterns, top hats, and maybe a dirigible or two?

5. Urban Fantasy: Would you like to see a story set in the modern world, but with fantasy elements?

6. Future: Maybe you enjoy future settings, when the world is a little or a lot different from the way it is today. If you choose this option, then try to decide on near future or far-distant future.

Others: Do you have a strong feeling about some other setting that isn't mentioned here? Let us hear about it!

I would love the challenge of trying to combine 1 and 4, possibly with Renaissance twists as well, and I also love making things up from scratch!

I love the idea of a not-so-distant past.  I think if you did that, but put fantasy elements in it, it would be a really fun story to read.

I personally like Not-So-Distant Past! I haven't read a whole lot of fairy tale type stories coming from this era (the main one coming to mind is Peter Pan), and a twist on one of my favorite eras would be exciting!

My favorites are one and two, but I pretty much like them all.

1. Medieval European-like: This is the setting of most fairy tales we know--kings, queens, knights, castles . . .

2. Original Fantasy Land: This is harder to do, because
the land will be less familiar to readers--a land that's not like a
real place or time period on Earth--but it can be lots of fun! Anything
becomes possible, but we'd have to work all the harder at developing the
world.

Everyone does medieval, but it is a classic. Not so distant past would be pretty cool, and an original fantasy land would be awesome.

I agree. It might be hard, but I think we can do it !Smile

My favorites are:

1.  Medieval European-like

2.  Classical World (I would prefer Greek, because Roman seems too popular and everyone forgot about the awesome Greeks.)

Urban Fantasy is nice too, like the Percy Jackson series or Kane Chronicles. That counts as Urban Fantasy, right?

You 're right! Everyone did forget the Greek names for gods and goddesses, even though they named and worshiped them first!Laughing

I prefer Medieval European-like, Original Fantasy Land, and Future, but the others sound intriguing. I can't help noticing, however, that most of the Hero/Heroine "finalists" are tailored to an Original Fantasy Land.
