Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Social Survey

Social Survey

A couple Fridays ago, I concluded at my other, actually helpful or at least nicer, support group that I have no real friends because I lack a cell phone and no one checks their e-mail or writes letters. Just to confirm this, I have created this survey to examine how CBers socialize. I am particularly interested in teen CBers, but I'm not against anyone else filling it out.

1. How old are you?

15 years old as of 04/10/2014.

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

Yes, and yes.

3. Do you have any social media accounts, and, if so, how often do you check each account?

Yes. Twitter: Sometimes

Pinterest: Quite a bit

WordPress: Not as much as I mean to

Tumblr: Never

Google: Linked to my e-mail so I have to check it when I check my e-mail of course. You know how Google is with the linkings of their sites...

Wikia: I've kind of stopped. Meaning to return.

Cricket Chatterbox; Not technically an actual account (by which I mean a password-protected account holding personal data), but, very often.

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

No cell phone. I'm sure if I had one I'd use it quite a lot.

5. What in-person activites (dating, playing sports, groups, clubs, whatever) do you do with your peers?

No dating. Trying, though... and failing.

I don't play sports.

Homeschooled. Do a lot of extracurricular stuff.

Two support groups I'm in, previously mentioned before, to help me deal with the results of my not being able to handle my adolescence.

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters (or snail mail, as some call it)?

Yes, yes, yes. But not many people write back...

7. What other ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

In person. I'm good at talking to people casually, but when it comes to opening myself up and digging deep I stumble. I am much more open on paper (or screen).

I'm improving at opening up about my feelings with my mouth though.

Okay, there we go. Now, answers.

I think the Admins deleted a bit of what I said. Sorry, Admins! I know Maggie has my email, so if you guys want my email, you should ask her on another website. I know you people have ways of getting around. *shifty eyes*

@Red, I'd recommend Wordpress for a blog, but there are a few other sites out there I know of.

Wordpress- I've been using it since I was 11, so I might have a slight bias. Still, there are many themes to chose from, and the sites end up looking a little more proffesional (but slightly cloned as many Wordpess users might use the same theme as you). If you've been on Joe the Stickfiddler's website, he uses Wordpress.

Wix.com- My art teacher made us use this for class. Other than the fact that it's extrememly hard to move from page to page, add images, add text, take down images, ect, it is far more customizable than Wordpress, as you can edit the site's apperance and move things around to you perfection. Personally, I don't like it, esspecially since I think the way it formats your web adress is not preferable (and slightly less preferable than Wordpress's).

GoogleSites- Again, this is a school thing. You've probably seen it before, maybe even had to use it. I never made a full site on here, but instead made my site on Wordpress and had a link. You can use GoogleSites, needless to say, but it is more difficult than Wordpress and Wix, and much more clone-like, harder to make your own.

Blogger- I have absolutely 0 experience with using blogger, I just know it's out there. You could probably ask another CBer on that one.

Thanks, Theo! I made a tumblr blog, but figured that I have no idea how to use it. Well, I'll figure it out by trial and error, I guess. For the moment, I've only put up explanations, but once I finish with those, I'll be able to put up funny weird stuff, so if you guys want a laugh, you can try checking it out.

1. I'm turning 16 on the 20th.  I'm pretty sure I'm the oldest here now.  I act like I'm younger than the youngest sometimes though.

2. Yes and daily.

3. Chatterbox I go on sometimes.

Twitter sometimes.

Facebook compulsively.

Google/YouTube: I only have an account so I can use GoogleDocs for school and keep track of my favorite YouTube channels.

And then I have users on a few apps on my iPad like QuizUp and 94s and Scrabble that are more like games but I play with other people on.

4. Yes and not really.  I'm more reliable on my iPad.  It never leaves my side when I'm home.  I do use my phone to text my boyfriend and family though.

5. Dating, yes.  Boyfriend of almost eight months.  And then I'm in the school band, wind ensemble, jazz band, drama club, and book club.  I used to dance.  I'm not sure if I'm going to continue.  And I do Girl Scouts.  I help with Blu's troop.

6.(side note: Woo!  Power outage.  Guess that was the storm and not fireworks.)  No because I have no one to write to.  I was supposed to be Ima's pen pal at one point but that fell through.

7. In person.  I'm okay.  I'm a little awkward and shy but once I get to know a person, I can hold my own in conversation.  I just need a little downtime after socializing in person for a while because I'm quite introverted.

1. How old are you?

Currently 13, turning 14 in November.

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

I do check it, but not quite as often as I used to.

3.Do you have any social media accounts, and if so, how often do you check each account?

I don't have a FB or Instagram, though people I know have been bugging me to get one over and over :P I just have NaNo, here on the CB, if that counts, and Pinterest, though I haven't been checking it all too often.

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

I got one a few months ago, though I don't really use it. Only if I forgot something at home or need to ask my friends something. And it's an old phone, not an iPhone like practically everyone I know has and "can't live without". *blinks like Sokka from Avatar* Um, really guys? Do you need iPhones at the age of even 12? No.

5. What in-person activities (dating, playing sports, groups, clubs, whatever) do you do with your peers?

No dating *scooches away from subject and pushes it off cliff*

I do, however, do Jazz Band as a flute and Cross Country. Spring Track too.

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters (or snail mail, as some call it)?

I write thank you notes for my birthday and holidays, but no, I don't usually use it.

7. What other ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

Hm, well, I'm very random and join in conversations easily. Sometimes I'm in a I-don't-want-to-even-socialize mood, and other times I'm in a things-keep-coming-to-me-and-I-can't-stop-the-conversation mood. Yup, that be me :)

How old are you?

I'm almost 14. SO CLOSE.

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

Yup, and I check it every night.

3. Do you have any social media accounts, and if so, how often do you check each account?

Instagram and the CB. I check them pretty often, about once a day.

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

Not technically a phone, but I do have an iPod touch, which I use a lot for texting, Instagram, and that fun stuff. I use it a LOT.

5. What in-person activities (dating, playing sports, groups, clubs, whatever) do you do with your peers?

I do all of those, bahaha. I'm allowed to date, and I do, but not at the moment. I do track, basketball, and bowling. I'm in a club/group called PALS (PEER AND LEADERSHIP SUPPORT) in which I help kids with disabilities, I learn how to babysit, and I sing - to both the elderly and younger kids. It's a lot of fun.

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters (or snail mail, as some call it)?

Always.

7. What other ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

I make friends pretty easily, which is awesome. I have a few "best friends," which I am very close to, and some other friends who are just people I invite over a few times, and hang out with at school, and such. Although school's out now. Anyway, I'm very outgoing, and I'm a big people person.

Update for 3.

I also have Google Plus which I basically use for the Google docs to store my writing. And Blogger, which is much easier than my previous website and more maintainable.

1. How old are you?

Check the age box. :)

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

Yes and yes.

3. Do you have any social media accounts, and, if so, how often do you check each account?

Pinterest: Quite a bit

My email (Outlook)

Cricket Chatterbox

...Aaaaand a bunch of peoples' blogs that I look at a lot, but that's not really an 'account'. I really want an instagram (because I like taking photos), but my parents won't let me have one. Also, I don't have a smartphone.

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

Yes, I have a cell phone--it's that US Cellular penny phone that a thousand people where I live have. I have my phone because I play a whole bunch of sports and do other activities that I need to have a phone for in case my mom is running late, etc. I hate texting. Frankly I think it's stupid. But I guess that's because I'm not very social. I mean, I am nice to everyone, but I don't rely on my friends like my sister does. She has my mom's old flip-phone that is terrible to text on, yet she texts them every day. Also, she's always biking around the neighborhood with her friends. *sigh* But yeah, my friends get mad at me for never texting. I prefer email. (and, as you can see, I have a problem of writing too much).

5. What in-person activites (dating, playing sports, groups, clubs, whatever) do you do with your peers?

No dating.

I don't play lots of sports: Running 5ks and soccer are my big ones though. My dad used to coach me in basketball but then I stopped playing it because I wanted to focus on soccer. Soccer is year-round (futsal, which is soccer in a gym--and I think it's much better than outdoors--is what I play during the winter and summer; I actually have it tonight). I'm doing cross country in eighth grade and I love to run 5ks in the summer. So, yeah!

I go to public school and do a lot of extra-curricular things.

I play with my neighbors a lot to (like every day)

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters (or snail mail, as some call it)?

"Yes, yes, yes. But not many people write back..."

Same. People never write back! They're no fun!

7. What other ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

I am a good socializer, but I'm not like my sister, who runs around on her bike and la-dee-da-dee-da. Like once, when I was saying that I would go be homeschooled so I could just travel around all the time to awesome places, my sister's like, "Noooooo! I would miss all of my friends!"

Wait - you first said, "I play a whole bunch of sports" and then you said, "I don't play lots of sports."

???

Whoa . . . I think you are the oldest . . .

Things change. I have never thought of you as being that old before. We used to have TNÖ, I guess, and she was kind of the elder and made everyone else seem insignificant.

1. How old are you?

I'll be 13 8/13/14

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

Yes, and no.

3. Do you have any social media accounts, and, if so, how often do you check each account?

Yes. I do YWP, which I check several times a day, and the CB, which I haven't been able to get on very much since early spring, but I am able to get on more now that school's basically done for me.

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

No. I want one, though.

5. What in-person activites (dating, playing sports, groups, clubs, whatever) do you do with your peers?

I have done dance class for many years, but I'm debating continuing it. I like to jog, but I do that w/ my dad. I also take piano class.

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters (or snail mail, as some call it)?

Yes to all of those!!!

7. What other ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

i don't socialize in any other ways, but when I'm around others, I always make new friends; the only problem is that we never see each other again. :(

1. How old are you?

Age unknown   (classified info)

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

Yup and yup

3. Do you have any social media accounts, and, if so, how often do you check each account?

pinterst, kind of often

CB  that I check often

facebook, (yes, yes..) I need it for a club I am in, but I do stalk people on it..

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

No phone. It is a waste of money and time, plus it is stupid since I have an iPod touch.

5. What in-person activites (dating, playing sports, groups, clubs, whatever) do you do with your peers?

Absolutely NO dating. I pretty much talk to my friends. In the summer I swim, (I am the fastest and proud of it) and put off hanging out with friends.. I am an introvert deluxe, and I make up fake conversations with people and myself all the time. I am half homeschooled, and I go to school two days a week during the school year.

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters (or snail mail, as some call it)?

I write monthly letters to my old best freind and never get replys. I work hard on those letters.

7. What other ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

I am in 4-H, but they are all snots and I am to shy to talk to the half of them. As I said, I am an introvert deluxe. Although I tend to get crazier around friends.
