Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Social Survey

Social Survey

A couple Fridays ago, I concluded at my other, actually helpful or at least nicer, support group that I have no real friends because I lack a cell phone and no one checks their e-mail or writes letters. Just to confirm this, I have created this survey to examine how CBers socialize. I am particularly interested in teen CBers, but I'm not against anyone else filling it out.

1. How old are you?

15 years old as of 04/10/2014.

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

Yes, and yes.

3. Do you have any social media accounts, and, if so, how often do you check each account?

Yes. Twitter: Sometimes

Pinterest: Quite a bit

WordPress: Not as much as I mean to

Tumblr: Never

Google: Linked to my e-mail so I have to check it when I check my e-mail of course. You know how Google is with the linkings of their sites...

Wikia: I've kind of stopped. Meaning to return.

Cricket Chatterbox; Not technically an actual account (by which I mean a password-protected account holding personal data), but, very often.

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

No cell phone. I'm sure if I had one I'd use it quite a lot.

5. What in-person activites (dating, playing sports, groups, clubs, whatever) do you do with your peers?

No dating. Trying, though... and failing.

I don't play sports.

Homeschooled. Do a lot of extracurricular stuff.

Two support groups I'm in, previously mentioned before, to help me deal with the results of my not being able to handle my adolescence.

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters (or snail mail, as some call it)?

Yes, yes, yes. But not many people write back...

7. What other ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

In person. I'm good at talking to people casually, but when it comes to opening myself up and digging deep I stumble. I am much more open on paper (or screen).

I'm improving at opening up about my feelings with my mouth though.

Okay, there we go. Now, answers.

1. How old are you?

I'm fourteen. I'll be fifteen as of September.

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

I do have an e-mail, but I don't use it all that often.

3. Do you have any social media accounts, and, if so, how often do you check each account?

Nothing other than the CB! And I'm new here.

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

I do have a cell phone (not a smartphone). I hardly ever use it!

5. What in-person activities do you do with your peers?

No dating yet -- I think I'm too young. No organized sports, either, but I'd love to take a bike ride or go swimming with a group of friends. As for groups and clubs, I've been involved in my school's newspaper, art and rock climbing clubs. I'm starting at a new school this September, and I want to join the creative writing club and maybe the stage crew.

I've joined a nature camp and a creative writing camp this summer.

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters?

Occasionally...usually to relatives. I'd love to write letters to other people, if I knew of other people who would enjoy writing/recieving letters!

7. What others ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

I'm quiet, and my interests are different than those of the average teen, so I'm not exactly a social butterfly. I've made plently of efforts anyway, but few people have reciprocated -- I've found that many people at my school, and girls especially, aren't interested in much more than cliques and gossip. Plenty of people have looked at me, and seen me as someone who is too "nice," presumably beacuse I'm not a gossiper, I don't make waves, and I don't "go along with the crowd" or misbehave in class. It's too bad that "nice" isn't usually considered very "cool".

Hey, does anybody else notice that everyone on here seems to be a bit on the shy side?

1.How old are you?

Fourteen and a half and counting the days until I can get a permit!

2. Do you have an email, and if so, do you check it frequently?

Yes and yes though neither does me much good. My most common correspondents are National Geographic and my mother:(

3.Do you have any social media accounts, and if so, how often do you check each account?

I have a Facebook account that I could probably still unearth if I tried.

4. Do you have a cellphone, and if so, how heavily to you rely on it for socializing?

I do have a cellphone and rely on it for quite a bit of socializing. It's overused...

5. I play basketball, and occasionally soccer. I watch tennis, which over-excercises my patience because ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ever happens. I consider this to be one of my sports as well. Oh, and also I ski!

Not dating and not trying to date *wrinkles her nose*

I love how many people are on the homeschooling boat! I was homeschooled for 5 years, and my mom literally started a school for me and my best friends where I went for 3 years. It was so tiny (3 people in my grade) that I left for a larger private school where I went last year.

And I'm also in Young Author's Club at my school, a group that basically sits around and critiques eachother's  stories while eating pizza and making nonstop Dr.Who references. It's a little bit of a haven.

6. Oui to all three. But unfortunately no one else does.

7. I'm always trying to expand myself, trying to open up to people. It doesn't work that well though.... I'm not the trusting type. I'm best at socializing with other people into the arts (like people into theater, writing, art etc.) But over paper is one of the most relaxing ways to communicate.

1. How old are you?

16 (Melody, I've got about two weeks on you)

2. Do you have an e-mail, and if so, do you check it frequently?

Yes, and yes.

3. Do you have any social media accounts, and, if so, how often do you check each account?

Tumblr: more than daily

Facebook: daily, but not right now because it's blocked in China

Ao3: I don't have anything so... barely.

CB: I have resolved to participate more than I have been.

4. Do you have a cell phone, and, if so, how heavily do you rely on it for socializing?

Yes, but not much because texting is expensive. My friends will use their phones to access Facebook and I'll use a computer and we'll go from there.

5. What in-person activites (dating, playing sports, groups, clubs, whatever) do you do with your peers?

Dated for five months this year.

Varsity Tennis, Math team, Scholastic Bowl.

I hang out with my friends quite a bit, I guess, but not as much this school year because we were all so busy. But I hang out with my five closest friends a lot, and also a wider group.

6. Do you write, read, and/or reply to letters (or snail mail, as some call it)?

Not really. I guess my grandmother? And one of my friends who moved sent me frozen valentines. But we communicate over internet.

7. What other ways do you socialize, and do you consider yourself a good socializer?

I talk to people during class, I guess. I'm usually terrible at starting conversations, but once they start I can usually keep them going. I'm okay.
