Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Please click this.

Please click this.

You can tell this is SERIOUS because I didn't write ANYTHING in capitals and I ended with a PERIOD! (I feel dirty.)

But this is serious, so I'm betraying my natural instincts so you will listen to me.

A month, two months ago, all the CBers decided to mellow down on their AEs. Make sure they don't show up too much, because the CB was in too-crazy mode.

I wasn't aware that "mellow down" means "stop using completely".

I know we have been a big problem for CBers. Some don't see the point, and don't mind not having us. For some of you, your AEs are basically a part of you.

I understand if you who don't have AEs find us annoying, boistrous, and crazy. But listen. That's what a AE is. That's pretty much what we're made for. Crazy comedy. The wacky side of you. The part that you don't usually get to express.

We need to find a good place for Alter Ego action. I am aware that before, we were running around wild, cooko, and messing the CB up. But this... this is just wrong. The last time I was allowed to speak was during the CBer ball. I find myself talking to St. a lot now, because I can't express myself anywhere else. I want to be allowed to run around a bit, brag that I forced Feather to eat some brussels sprouts (which I did, yay for me!), and chat with Volcano.

Doesn't anyone feel the itch to have your alter ego speak? Doesn't anyone miss the screaming, the happy shouting? Anyone miss the pie throwing and the mountain dew?

We need AEs to make the CB the thing it's supposed to be: the home to the slightly crazy, writing-loving CBers. To fufill the crazy part, you need us.

Thank you for listening. I hope you will bring this speech into account.

I get what you're saying, but to be honest I don't think AE's are really neccessary. You said the point of having an AE is to be able to unleash your wild/crazy side that you "don't usually get to express," but that isn't the case. If your AE is a part of your personality, you should feel free to express it how you want. There isn't a point in making up a whole new character to do that for you. If you like to get a little crazy sometimes, be my guest. That's great. But I don't like how people blame being crazy on their AE's. Like "Oh sorry, my alter ego just got a little too carried away there. Not my fault." Um yes it IS, because you created your AE. You shouldn't feel like you're 2 different people, because you aren't. You're you, nobody else, and if people don't accept you for who you are, then they aren't worth it. You shouldn't feel like you need to hide behind a character so you have an excuse to be crazy. If you have a crazy side to you, embrace it. Don't make an AE as an excuse. I get that they can be fun for some of you and that's great, as long as you don't rely on your AE for everything. Maybe we could have some special threads that are "AE Friendly" so things won't get to out of hand. Admins? Thoughts?

There was a special thread to which AEs were supposed to be confined. It should be around somewhere.

Dear Anonymous,

You do make a good point with your argument, however, I don't really think that you get what an AE is. The definition of atler ego is  "a person's secondary or alternative personality." A.K.A "Other self"

An AE is not part of your personality. It is a different personality.

Therefore, going on that note, your argument isn't really correct.

"You shouldn't feel like you need to hide behind a character so you have an excuse to be crazy. If you have a crazy side to you, embrace it. Don't make an AE as an excuse."

l know that l'm slighty crazy and l don't hide it. Why do you think that all AEs are crazy? Mine isn't, she's just a different personality, an imaginary friend of sorts.

l haven't seen any AEs around since the CBer Ball. They most certanly are not getting out of hand.

Sincerely,

Shadow

I've always thought of CB AEs not like actual alter egos, but like characters. Characters which you use to have some fun.

I don't know about you guys, but my alters help me behave better. By putting my less desirable hyper aspect who gets overexcited over fire in Volcano and my downright unpleasant schadenfreudic aspect who drops anvils on people and laughs about it in Shifting, I feel more like the decent part of me. It distances my worse traits from me, and when I express them, I feel less like they're part of me and more like they're traits I'm imitating, and since they feel less like myself, I exhibit them less.

I'm not using my alter egos much anymore, to be honest, because I'm scared.

I'm scared people are going to say again, "Don't use them anymore, they're too annoying and crazy and mess up the Chatterbox!"

You guys, you realize I almost left? Twice?

Because of this controversy over Alter Egos.

I hate starting AE wars. They make me feel guilty, like I've done something wrong. That's why I tried to leave-- because I felt like it was my fault.

And now for the embarrassing-ish part.

Would you guys laugh at me if I said I have full-on imaginary friends?

Well, I do. And two of them are my alter egos.

So FREAKING THERE.

Devil-- Volcano would love to talk with you again. We really need to start up a thread where AEs can go nuts and do their thing to their heart's content, while everyone else avoids it like the plague.

With Much Love,

Somebody

P.S. I read in a dictionary that "alter ego" can be a term used to describe "a constant companion". Though it might be outdated.

Yes, an AE is a different personality, but that doesn't change the fact that YOU, in real life, created them. Spyro and HAB are controlled by the same person behind the screen. What anonymous is saying is, don't blame it on your Alter Ego when they go insane or spam CAPS LOCK or whatever - because you, as a human in real life, typed that post. We can refer to them as different creatures as much as we want (and don't get me wrong, I like that way of thinking) but that doesn't change the fact that they are you. They are all little different pieces of your personality, but you control how much you expose them.

Basically, alter egos are fine in moderation, but don't overdo it. And remember that it is your fault if they do something wrong. Because you, as a real person in real life, not in the CB universe, control them.

I agree with Anonymous, they stated it quite well. Some "AE friendly" threads as well as the ones Admin pointed out dedicated to AEs are a great idea, just not everywhere.

I made my AE, but then I guess I forgot about him.

Turgon- Hey, I heard that! And just an F.Y.I.  I used the time that I wasn't being used to completely destroy your book room. I ripped apart all the books, feather pillows, and bean bags. I even scratched up the walls.

Aaaaaaand... He's back............

If you will allow a thread to have AE's then say its AE friendly!

Captcha says nuuf. I agree, nuuf said.

I don't have an AE, but I think that if you use your own good judgment whether it is a good place to use an AE or not, then we will all be fine. Also, on your post, you can say if the thread is "AE friendly" or "Non-AE" or somethin' like that.

I think that I agree with both anonymous and Devil Owl. I think that the AE threads should be kept for AEs, but that AEs  should keep to those threads. Anonymous makes a fair point, AEs should not be needed because the CB is open to anything. But if people feel more comfortable using AEs, let them! On the AE threads. However, I think there should be a day of the week when AEs are let loose. Also, no one ever said you can't talk. That was the AEs choice.

End my opinion

I agree with Young Writer. AE threads should be for AEs and AEs should stay there. If you want to use your AEs, no one should be able to hate on you for it. Whether it's crazy or not. I know lots of really crazy and fun CBers: some with AEs, some without. Let's have fun here.

Hey guys? I might make a thread just for AE's on PP. I won't make the thread unless at least there are 5 people who agree with me. I will post the link here if you guys agree. I hope this ends this argument about AEs. I don't know about you guys, but I hate it when we fight! Every time we do, nothing really changes. There is just a big raincloud over our heads, and an invisible boundary between us. Please let me do this to end the conversation.
