Homeschooling!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Homeschooling!

Homeschooling!

So I've seen a lot of people posting at times of day which one could not post at if one went to a conventional school, so I thought, 'Hey, there must be a lot of homeschoolers!' I knew Cayke and The Phoenix are homeschooled, but I would like to get to know all the homeschooled guys and gals. We can chat about homeschooling style (more strict, more relaxed, et cetera), curricula, our favorite things about homeschooling, and so on ad nauseam.

P.S.

Hooray for Latin words!

P.P.S.

I have now written the word 'homeschooling' so much that it has failed to look like a word. Please excuse my repetiveness.

Hooray for homeschoolers indeed! I'm actually doing half homechool, half high school this year which has been an AMAZING experience for me. I do a lot of homeschooled work on my own (Math, English, History and Literature are all at home), like the other day I took my Life of Fred math book into the town coffee shop and did that, then worked on my book for like 3+ hours which was THE BEST. Homeschooling has been a generally positive experience for me (social gets a bit tuff) and defintely has helped me become self-driven.

Top, top, top! That sounds awesome, The Phoenix! I'm debating homeschooling v. high schooling for next year, so anything on that is much appreciated.

My first year of homeschooling high school! And I love it! My mother teaches everything fourth grade and below, and art, math, and handwriting for all grades. And music, when applicable. My father does literature/composition/communication, history, and science for fifth grade and up. We have an hour each day to get a lecture (as in, a walkthrough of the subject, not a reprimand, usually) and are assigned homework to be finished by a certain date. I'm also taking French, for my third year, using Duolingo and this course as Carnegie Mellon University's open courses - I'm not getting credit, but I am gaining knowlege!

What subjects are you guys doing? Do you guys want to go to college? Personally, I really want to start some dual credit classes by eleventh, if not tenth, grade. And what extracurricular activities do you take?

I'll most liekly beign doing dual credit in a year or so. The commuinty college offers some and I'm so excited!!!

Ooh, ooh! Go homeschoolers!

I am homeschooled, and I love it!  @Chocabookaholic: Are you learning Latin? If so, good for you! I've been really wanting to learn Latin for a while... but haven't yet. Do you have any tips if you are learning Latin?

I wish I was homeschooled, but my parents don't have the time ...

I'm taking:

Math- Teaching Textbooks Pre-Alg

Literature- tons and tons of books, with a book report after each

Catechism- 8th grade book from the Faith and Life series

Spanish- Duolingo

History- I did so much Story of the World and other books in previous years that mom's having me use a short textbook about influential Catholics. My favorite chapter so far has been about Queen Isabel of Spain; she is one of the strongest and smartest women this world has ever seen!

Science- Right now, I'm finishing up a High School Bio course.

P.E.- random yoga and running

Sewing- learn to work through various sewing patterns

Robotics- basic programming

I did Latin a great while ago, so I've forgotten a lot of them. Et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseam is one of my favorite phrases though!

I'm homeschooled, but I half wish i went to a normal school. Only because I have nine siblings and I can never get away from them. I mean, sometimes I neeed to just be by myself right? Also, we don't do barely anything other then go to the grocery store during the week, because my parents don't have much extra money.

Sorry about rambling about my problems. I'll stop now.

I use the same catechism book. I have to write essays on each of the chapters.

I'm homeschooled!!

My mom lets me make most of the decisions. So I'm graduating this year and I'm starting college next fall!!

I use Apologia, Teaching Textbooks, History of the World by Susan Wise Bauer (oh my god I love this book), and classics for literature. I LOVE every single one of these. Unfortunately, I'm doing chemistry, which I now HATE.  I mean, I really hate it.

Anyway, I LOVE homeschooling!

Sorry, a lot of excitement right now.

True: YES COLLEGE COLLEGE COLLEGE COLLEGE COLLEGE. I'm inexpressibly excited for college! I want to be a college librarian, and I can't wait to earn my Masters in library science!

Wren: I feel your pain. I have eight other siblings, and we hardly go anywhere, and I get a bit bogged down sometimes. One thing that helps is homeschool co-op, so you could see if maybe there's one in your area. I guess I can't sympathize with you fully, because I'm actually not around my siblings a whole lot, since I teach myself. (By teach myself I mean mum gives me my books for the year, and I work through them. She doesn't lecture, she just answers any questions. Does anyone else teach themselves?)
