Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Oh dear! I'm

Oh dear! I'm terribly scared right now!!! Has anybuggy heard of a virus? THEY ARE CREEPY!!!!!!! And you know how they spread wildly right? Well, someone in MN got one! AAAAAAHHHHH! Most of the schools down by where that person lives closed down! It's scary! Lucky for me, I don't live near there. But what happened to her was that she saw someone from Mexico, where most of it is, and she kind of... got it? So now my science teacher is telling us alll about them, and I'm sitting there scared to death because I don't want them in my body! AHHHH! I'm scared everybuggy!

Maggie, I heard a report today that said that most people will NOT get the virus, and of those who do, many will not be very sick and will recover just fine. Some already have. You should just take normal precautions: stay home if you're sick, call the doctor if you have a high fever, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands.

Viruses aren't actually alive. They have to get inside a living cell, take over the cell, either put their DNA into the cell's DNA or replicate their DNA, then rupture the cell, and all the new copies of the virus pop out. Sort of interesting, even though it's really weird. :) But you probably won't get the flu virus, and even if you did it probably wouldn't affect you too much, since it doesn't really hurt people with healthy immune systems.

I know. I am so freaked out about the swine flu because even when there aren't viruses going around I get freaked out about them. Um, I'm not the best person to help because it's sorta the same with me, but my dad and doctor told me that the media just likes to make people scared and anxious because then they'll see ads and buy things and people will get money... it went a little over my head.

Oh, you mean the swine influenza? Here in Nashville, a kid was suspected of having it and now the Nashville schools are all closing down. Dunno why. Too bad I'm homeschooled............/joke/ yeah, I hope I don't get it either! Oh, and Maggie, I just realized that I haven't asked you to be friends with me, which means that for me, we aren't properly friends. (it's a mental block caused by mean people who pretended to be nice) Soooooo, would you like to be friends? *looks hopeful*

YAY!! Thanks, Maggie! Can I call you Eiggam sometimes? It's your name backwards, like Egiap is Paige and XirTalleB is BellaTrix! You can call me Refinnej or Nej or Innej if you want, too. Anyway. The mental block thing..........it's kind of complicated.

Well, given that the regular flu kills roughly 3,000 people in the U.S. every year, and swine flu has only killed, um, one person in Texas so far, I'm not very worried.

Oh, I've heard alot about the swine flu. I'm

trying not to worry about it too much, though.

Just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly

after being anywhere out in public, and pay

close attention to any flu symptoms you might

have. Other than that, just try not to worry so

much about it.
