The Kyngdom Project

The Kyngdom Project

I was thinking about how amazing Kyngdom is and how much it's shaped my life, and there has been a little bit of conversation surrounding it, but I wanted to let everyone know that I take the idea seriously. I say that the Kyngdom video game should be real and playable.

If anyone wants to join me and start planning this project, we can talk it over on this thread. Just jump in and discuss, don't worry about jobs yet!

That would be great!

First off a 3D game is going to be very, very, hey hard. especially since the best app or computer game (whatever) makers can cost a thousand dollars a year.  (Or all least that's what the website I looked at said) so I think we should try to start with something a little summer.  Baby steps right?  And though walking around in kyndom would be cool, there's just so much content and land that it it'd be pretty extreme for us to make and the player to explore.  As well as it'd be pretty much impossible to for the player to act out the actual story.

But then again what kind of game are we actually pointing for?

A RPG game, where you add onto the story from a list of options?

Or a 3D game, like and animal jam where you walk around and interact with players?

Perhaps the PoV should be from a new character that you create (or just randomly recieve), and at the beginning they could decide to either be a part of FaFa or BIG (BIG only accepts humans, though, am I right?). Or players could choose from a variety of the characters that were created by us at the beginning.

[The thing is, we're going to be playing it, probably. Wouldn't we want to be our own characters? Hm.]

If the game does end up being 2D, we can offset that fact with an epic map that you click on to go places. There's a game called Darkest Dungeon (I've never played it but I've seen someone else play it) that's designed so it looks like you're playing a story--the characters even look like pictures (albeit really good pictures) and everything is 2D. You don't get to walk around in the main village--though it's drawn to have dimensions, you can only click on the buildings to enter them. I'm not saying make it exactly like that game, but if 3D ends up being too hard, there are many ways to make 2D not so 2D.

I don't think it would be legal to use 3D models from online. They may be free, but there's probably legal strings attached.

Will this be third or first person?

Ronan's got the final word here, but here's an idea of how this might work.

Chapter one: Power of Wing

Follows Power of Wing storyline, starts with two letters. One from B.I.G, one from FAFA. You choose one from the options presented (Yes, Yes but just to spy, etc) and then it gives you character selection. If you joined B.I.G, a human. FAFA, animal or human. Throughout the Power of Wing storyline, Claaws remains a mysterious panther and serves as a sort of mysterious watcher from the shadows who refers  to the Powers as six instead of four. Follows the same plot as the Power of Wing on Kyngdom. For FAFA, you go through an initiation and then missions, each gathering a bit of information leading up to Zephyra's capture. Basically simple. I'm leaving the freedom for the Spy lines, etc, up to you, but Ronan has the final say. How should the Power be activated from the FAFA plot?

Maybe FAFA gets in by crawling through the vents, which could be l like a maze.

Chapter two: Power of Claw

Follows Power of Claw plotline from Kyngdom. Expect lots of long, hard strings of quests just to do one thing, along with side quests and (if possible. I'm not doing the coding here, I don't want to press too hard) maybe mini games?

Chapter three:  Power of Fin

HOW ON EARTH OR SEA IS it even possible to connect Power of Fin to the plot? Well, a Power's a Power after all. Maybe Claaws' identity revealed in this chapter.

Chapter four:  Power of Hoof

This hasn't even ended yet.... Gah, how to fit side affected Powers in....

Chapter five:  Power of Fang

Since Claaws will likely reveal true form and die in Fin, we get to look for her, yay! Once we find her, this will likely mean answers. For FAFA agents, you probably don't want the Powers activated--until now.

Chapter six:  Power of Howl

Leeli? Help.

Aaand that's a small sum up suggestion. It's just a suggestion, but I've been working for days on it ._. I didn't write everyone's character in because they would be a better judge to that.

AAAND MY CAPTCHA SAID WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A BAD WORD. GOTTA GO HAVE A SERIOUS TALK.

Hey everybody, I've just made a list of possible game makers that we could use to make Kyngdom! I'll post it now with pros and cons for each maker. We'll have a three day voting period, and at the end, whoever gets the most wins.

And here are our candidates!

Spark Game Engine

Pros: Coding or no coding options, very easy to manipulate, great graphics, live chatting and real-time editing, meaning we could have meetings where we all are on Spark and work on the game at the same time, distribution on many platforms is possible.

Cons: Not released to the public yet, so if we wanted to use it, our project would be postponed indefinently.

Unreal Engine

Pros: Very professional.

Cons: Coding only, no way to communicate live.

Cyberix3D

Pros: Easy to reach, no download involved.

Cons: Very finicky and does not like cooperating with what you want it to do. Limited models.

Scratch

Pros: Once again, no download. No coding, quite easy to use.

Cons: No 3D games are possible in this engine.

RPG Maker

Pros: Easy to use, very open, coding option, great graphics.

Cons: Costs $79.99.

So now we have our options. I vote for Spark.

Oh, and thanks for the plot Icy, we really needed this sort of thing to look at!

My brother uses C#. It's a unity thing. I'm not really sure how it connected.

Pros: Pretty straight foward. GREAT documentation.  (No idea what this means. I'm hoping the coders do.) It is a very legit game creator. There's tons of professional games that have been made in it. If we want to, we can make 2D games.

Cons: Needs a download. Other then that, my brother couldn't think of any.

I guess Spark, but how are we going to get the story to fit in there?

Maybe we can release one chapter at a time, but all must be free because copyright rules forbid you to sell their ideas without permission.

You can use some models off of websites. Their makers might say "You have to put (x) in your credits" But you can use them.

I think letting people work for B.I.G. is a bad idea. B.I.G. people are kind of bad guys,  and they do end up losing. Maybe let them work as a spy, but not just for B.I.G. It also might be easier on our animators if you can only be human.

For side quests, instead of a standard quests, should we do something like "find all the empty punch cups at the ball"? That way, if you want to you can skip them very easily. If you clicked on an empty cup, it would say "Empty cup found. 1/24"

As for the models, we've agreed on 2D (I think). As for programs... *shrugs*

Random statement--If you need testers for the game, I have my teenage brother who I based Frosty off of (although Frosty the AE wound up acting NOTHING like him, I just borrowed the name Frosty from one of his gamertags, FrostyBeverage). He's pretty in-depth and loved exploiting glitches in this game we used to play (Wizard 101). However, he might be busy.

.w. And that's it!

What?! But 3d sounds way more fun. To me at least.

I prefer 3D as well, but it's much too difficult (I think)

It depends. C# is 3D but there isn't a lot of animating I think. Instead you tell it what forces to apply, and it does that for you.

I've never animated before, but I don't mind drawing non-human or partial-human characters. Also, the tiny side quests sound fun, but I like the idea of bigger ones, too.
