Penpals

Who here has got a penpal? Tell us about your penpal, how you started getting in touch with them, or anything else! Oh, and does anybuggy know of any good (and safe) penpal programs? I want a penpal but am not sure how to go about getting one.

I have three awesome penpals! I have even got to meet one of them, since she lives near my cousins (and we visit those cousins about 2-3 times a year). She's really nice. I just adore writing letters to people. I got two of them through a magazine called "Hopscotch for Girls." I got my other penpal (Kimmie :D) through St. Maria's Messenger Penpal Club.

I've got five penpals. And I've gotten to meet them all, which is actually how I got in touch with them. One is my grandma in Idaho (can't beat that!) and she's the only one who actually writes to me regularly. I enlisted her penpal help because I was getting really bummed out that none of my other penpals wrote to me. She's generally stupendous. Then there's my cousin Hannah in South Carolina, and she's 8 or 9 years old, has the horse craziness epidemic so common in girls now. Plays piano and is learning cello, and when I saw her last was still pretty short with shoulder length dark hair. Two older brothers and a gerbil, if it hasn't died yet. Then Ashleigh, who's posted on here two or three times, one of my best friends. She's maybe fifteen and responds to me more by email than snail mail. We've been friends since we were wee tots, and then her family had to go and move to Illinois!!!! ARRRGHH!!!! I've seen her once since then, about a year ago, at which point I began writing to her. She's taller than me if I remember right, maybe five eight? Gorgeous red hair, the oldest of five kids, strange sense of humor. Maybe even as strange as mine! (:D) Then there's Jessica in Michigan, maybe 10. She's the daughter of one of my mom's good friends, and I met her on the same trip last year that I saw Ashleigh on. Dark hair, very outdoorsy, has maybe three younger siblings. And Elisabeth in Connecticut, (by the way, the only thing I do on SI threads is post my person, who lives in the same town she does. Big hint, that. And the climax of my novel that stinks so badly you can probably smell it is in that same town. :D) ditto Jessica as to how I met her, and she and her mom flew out here last August, which really rocked. Another crocheter/knitter, and again, one of my best friends. Dark hair (that's common amoung my penpals :D) and a very immaginative person, which is great. Made her visit here tons of fun. Loves animals. So there you go. Now you know all about my penpals. Sorry this is so long.

Haha, well, we all know who Mary Jo and Grace's penpal is... :):D:) But yes, I have  penpals!!  Well, more of a pencil/thentranslatedandtyped pal and several e-mail pals. :):) The pencil/thentranslatedandtyped pal is a girl we sponser named Viviana (haha, the company (Compassion) we sponser her through doesn't know her name!  They think her name is Vibiana!!!).  She's wicked awesome, and y'all would like her, but she doesn't have internet, and she speaks Columbian or Spanish or whatever, so... :( And then I'm e-mail pals with all of my friends who have moved, sooo, M & J in WA, Abbie in Guatemala, Sarah in Russia, and Arielle in CA.  Oh, and Lindsey in Falmouth (a city that's about, oh, twenty minutes away from Gorham. Or shorter. Idk, how far do you think, Zoe??), but I don't think she counts. :):)

I'm also pen pals with a girl named Olivia. She's one of my old friends from VA. We email a lot (Guess what - we've emailed over 1,000 times! I checked :) ) I'm also kind of pen pals with my cousin, but not really any more.

Oh, and guess what! My cousin (Kristin) is coming to SC for a week, then I'm going up to OH with her, and 5 days later my whole family's going up! I can't wait! It's next week. I've been trying to get her to read Princess Academy, so maybe she can do it when us chatterboxers do! Ooh: Chatterboxers.

I have a great penpal, but she got grounded, and I haven't heard from her in a while... :(

:( Sometimes when that happens, I just send them a sheet of cool stickers with a note, because that will remind them they haven' t replied to your letter, and it's something easy to respond to if they're busy. (Plus, everyone loves sticker!!! :D:D)

Oh... yeah. Actually she's, um, an e-penpal, so the stickers might not work. *looks sheepish* But it was a good idea. And anyway, she emailed me today! Yay!!! :)

That's amazing that you have so many foreign penpals, Paige - it must be really interesting!
