Does anyone want to start a debate club? I thought it might be cool and we could discuss a new topic every week. Anyone can join.

That is what I thought of too. Can I join in the next debate?

Fireworks should be allowed at home, I think, as long as a responsible adultish is setting them off and there's an actual adult supervisor :^

And only at 4th of July

(I don't know if anyone noticed, but sometimes there's an Aqua ((with a capital A)) on here. Don't worry, that's me! Just saying if anyone was wondering UwU)

I actually think fireworks should NOT be allowed to be set off at home, except maybe on the actual night of 4th of July. It can be really hard to sleep if there are fireworks going off, and they can also be really problematic for people who have experienced... certain traumatizing things.

Hmm. Maybe if you live in the city, there should be rules like you can't set them off after a certain time. But maybe not if you live in the country, and your nearest nieghbor is a mile away, if you know what I mean.

I think that fireworks should be allowed! It's a fun time to celebrate! I do agree that there should be a responsible adult around. And safety is important, so DEFENITLY NOT indoors! Also, have people stand/sit far away from the fireworks.

I think fireworks should be allowed at home as long as there is someone over the age of 21 present. We don't want any reckless teenagers running around with fireworks, but we don't want them banned either - so I believe the age of 2- is a good compromise, and some very dangerous fireworks shouldn't be allowed. Although I'm not sure those should even be sold, period.

I think fireworks should not be allowed at home. People should keep it to sparklers. If they want fireworks, go to a firework show. I say this because where I live, in Los Angeles, every night since like June 15 to now have been filled with annoying bangs. People, Independence Day is over! It is July 10! I don't want to hear your fireworks when I'm trying to sleep!

In addition, fireworks are also being set off in broad daylight, which is just... what?! There's no point! So, I don't think fireworks should be allowed at home, due to people having no consideration for others. I'm sorry if you think I'm being a bit drastic, but it is SERIOUSLY GETTING ANNOYING.

Now I'm ending my comment, before I work myself up over fireworks.

WOW my fireworks idea got some good comments here is is my opinion about: Should fireworks be aloud at home?

Yes. But only on the Fourth of July and New Years Day.  Stay away from them tho because it is NOT  a good thing to get hit by fireworks.

I think whoever said that fireworks shouldn't be allowed after a certain time (in the city) is pretty smart, so there aren't crazy bangs going off at all hours of the night. They also shouldn't be allowed during the day. And of course, have an adult present, like I said before.

I believe fireworks should be banned for private use, which in this case means fireworks not set off by professionals. Here are my reasons.

-The smoke and chemicals caused by fireworks is a disaster for the environment, which is already in peril. Some of the chemicals never fully disintegrate, but hang around in the environment and poision whoever (including animals) comes in contact with them. These chemicals can leech into the ground and waterways and are really not good for anyone.

-These same smoke and chemicals can be problematic for those with asthma and/or chemical sensitivities. I can recall having breathing problems and at at least one asthma attack from fireworks.

-Many of the raw materials used to make fireworks are mined from mountains. The process of this destroys animals's habitats and forests, and to make it worse the rock mined is often dumped into valleys, which blocks and pollutes streams.

-There are an average of 7.1 deaths each year from fireworks, and in 2017 there were 12,900 firework-related injuries. 12,900.

-But that's not all. Also, the noise caused from fireworks is painful and/or terrifying for many pets, animals, and people (myself and two of my cats included.) They often last long into the night, keeping people, pets, and wild animals awake (and often scared.)

While it's possible that a ban on private use may cause a black market for fireworks, there could still be professional shows and honestly, it can't be too hard for law enforcers to find people using fireworks. After all, they're earsplittingly loud and many poeple complain about fireworks being used.

I tried to keep the opinion/my experience and facts clear.

I have one to add: People who set them off in their yard are inconsiderate of neighbors who want to have their windows open for fresh, cool night air. They don't want the smoke and smell from fireworks to come into their houses.

Good point. Well, I get what oou mean. But if a responsible adult is supervising, and there are guidelines, is it so bad?

It's hard to tell if an adult is responsible - age doesn't always entail responsibilty. There are a few book characters who might be able to tell, but most people aren't those characters. As far as guidelines go, there are still the environmental effects of the mining and chemicals, and the problems for people with things like sensitivities to chemicals or loud noises/bright lights or asthma. Having only professional fireworks minimizes these. Also, in 2009 there were 27 fires caused by fireworks. If less fireworks were allowed, there would probably be less fires, less animals hurt, less people hurt, and also less destruction of both wild land that's already being encroached on and human property. Lastly, there are a lot of alternative options like pinwheels, firework crafts, or even laser shows (although that's austensibly going to be extremely unrealistic and expensive, so probably not for most of us). Actually I just looked it up and wow, fireworks are very expensive! DoodleGirl: I agree, nobody cares about the environment or animals and they really need to! Stopping here before I get too worked up.

I never knew all those things about fireworks! I care a lot about the environment and animals, so maybe I'll mention that next time someone wants to set off fireworks. Although sometimes it seems like most people don't really care about those things. So, yeah, I guess I'd say they should be banned for private use.
