Debate Club?

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Debate Club?

Debate Club?

Does anyone want to start a debate club? I thought it might be cool and we could discuss a new topic every week. Anyone can join.

I think fireworks should be allowed at home, but only where there’s a large space between houses, and only before midnight, on July 4th, December 31st, and January 1st. Cause they’re loud! And annoying! And they scare people and pets! So yeah. That’s my opinion.

Here’s my opinion:

Fireworks should be allowed, but only if

A. You get maybe some sort of license available to the public if they pass a test and show that there responsible.

B. You can not put them off after a certain time in the city where police can enforce the laws

C. The fireworks must be Xft away from any human when they go off

D. There must be X amount of space between your firework and the nearest houses, woods and anything that carries power or electricity.

Those are very good ideas. I would add limiting the number of fireworks per person (to minimize environmental impact, scared animals, and minimize potential injuries) and you must clean up the trash. And maybe only on certain dates.

I agree that there should be a test to make sure people know what they're doing. Fireworks shouldn't be happening after midnight, and they should be done in area's where they are not disturbing people who are trying to sleep.

Also, how do we decide to move on to a new topic?

I also have one more thing to add:

Where I live, fireworks AND sparklers set off at home are already illegal. Where we used to live, my dad would set off minor fireworks in our driveway at dusk, and I think that fireworks should be allowed, and I also agree that there should be a class or online course for firework safety. And not past midnight.

Wow! These are some good opinions and facts! Good job expressing what you think is right, everyone!

So..should we choose the next topic?

Yes. Anyone have any ideas?

I have an idea for a new topic: What about discussing the effect of COVID on the whole community and if everything should continue going on or if it should have stopped a while ago? Well, I suppose I’m lucky, I live somewhere where quarantine is technically over!

We could always debate what to debate about.

Oooooooo! An arguing place that isn't really arguing? Sign me up!

If we debate about what we debate about, wouldn't we start debating what we debate about what we debate about?

And what if we debate about what we debate about what we debate about what we debate about, that would get confusing.

I kid, I kid. That's a good idea. 'Debate' doesn't even sound like a real word to me anymore after writing that. XD

I do propose we don't talk about COVID or anything religious or political. Let's try to stick to fun stuff.

I think we should talk about VSCO Girls vs. Self-Perscribed "Psychopaths".

Which one's less annoying?

What's a VSCO Girl and what's a self-described psychopath?

By the way, I do think we should debate about some more serious topics, or else I'm going to completely lose interest. I do have a topic idea: Wasps, good or bad? I don't even know if anyone else is still on here.

I am still here and I think that wasps are a great topic except for one thing, and that is that I just looked it up and there are more than 30,000 kinds of wasps throughout the world. Therefore some are probably good and some are bad. However, I cannot think of another topic so that would probably end up still being fun.

Believe it or not, wasps do more good than harm. They play a vital role in protecting gardens and farm crops by controlling pest populations. They capture and consume insects such as flies, caterpillars and beetle larvae. (This is from global news.)

We had a wasp nest in our garrage once. They are anoying to get out. That's why I don't like them.
