Football. Anyone here

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Football. Anyone here

Football. Anyone here care to explain this game to me? :) After seeing the baseball-ish thread, I thought I might as well ask. Ok so my problem is that I don't really understand exactly what's so exciting. With baseball I understand it more, (You can cheer them on when they're running the bases, it's exciting when someone makes an awesome catch, and there's some strategy going on with the fielding, etc.) but with football, all I see is a big mass of guys trying to knock each other over. It seems like there's so much going on that I don't know WHAT to get excited about?!

One team gets 4 chances to advance the ball 10 yards down the field
toward their goal. If they make the 10 yards, they get to keep the ball
and try for 10 more yards. If they don't make the 10 yards, then the
other team gets the ball to try to make 10 yards in 4 tries toward
their goal at the opposite end of the field. Each team tries to stop the opposing team by tackling the ball carrier. The goal is to advance all the way down the field for a touchdown.

Umm... I guess the Admin sort of explained it. Which is good, because I have no idea. :)

My friend's sister (who's also my friend) became the second girl ever to play on the football team in my town!!!  The first person was a girl I knew, and she played in '99.  In a way, I feel kinda bad for my friend; she has to tackle a bunch of big, sweaty guys on a field.  Ewww...  And she also plays soccer, and field hockey, and I think lacrosse! :)

But how is football exciting? The Admin left out that little detail, so can someone please explain? I don't understand the excitement of baseball either: it's just a game, so why all the yelling? So what if someone catches a ball? I just don't get it...

I guess it's sort of a personal preference thing. Not a lot of girls I know like football, but nearly all my guy friends do. And it's a lot harder than it looks :D Trust me...

I don't understand football.  If I was a boy I wouldn't understand football.  My friend Mason has tackled me before, said i broke rules whlile he was tackling me.  And I don't understand football.

Yeah!

I think baseballs exciting, because you get worried that the runner won't make it to the base... and you're cheering him on hoping he'll run faster... or when someone hits the ball really hard and you get excited cause it might be a home run... or when your team is fielding and a really great hit comes to one of the fielders and you're thinking "C'mon catch it!!". It might help if you play baseball, cause even though I kind of like baseball it isn't THAT exciting for me. I get really into soccer games though since I play soccer. I guess you imagine yourself in the players place when your watching.

I love playing football. [I love to tackle people. ;)] but for the life of me I cannot explain the game when I'm watching it. All I see is the touchdown dance - or cheering - and I know that someone scored. =P

But yes, playing football is very fun.

GloWorm, don't take this offensively, but I can't tell if you are a boy or a girl?  I've been thinking girl.... but can you tell me?

A girl. Can you tell me why there is a question about my gender? I'm not offended, just a bit suprised because I thought it was obvious I was a girl.

It was pretty obvious.... sorry.  But then you just said you liked to play football, and I know that is common for girls to play it too, but my first thought was questioning your gender.  But yes, it was obvious.  Don't worry, I've had many people ask me the same question.  :)
