I actually like this small group, and I am glad to have some new members!

Every week, please check here for a new theme. Your job is to write any kind of poem of your choice based on the theme. If you have any theme ideas, you're welcome to share them! This helps me have a good idea of what you like to write about.

Check back later for the first theme! Happy writing! :)

Does anyone have any theme ideas for Poetry Club? If so, please share them with me! It helps me know what you like to write about.

Check back tomorrow for a new theme! I love all of your spring poems! :)

Some Ideas (alternating in bold or not so it's easier to read):

1.  Speaking from the point of view of something you lost or misplaced.

  1.   Telling about something that happened long ago, to you or to someone else.
  2.  In one loooooong sentence.
  3.    Pretending you are somebody else.
  4. Explaining what it's like to wake up in the morning, using sounds.
  5.    Repeating things you've overheard in the halls, fragments of conversation and statements.
  6.  Telling things you wish people would say to you.
  7.    In a series of images that seem unconnected, but which have a secret connection for you.
  8.  About things that make you smile
  9.    Sitting outside and describing what you see, hear, feel, smell, and taste, all the way around you.
  10.  Closing your eyes and describing what you imagine
  11.    Telling what parts of the world you would like to save
  12.  Explaining your fears
  13.    Talking to an animal, or as if you were an animal.
  14.  Giving your last words.
  15.    As a portrait of someone you know well
  16.  About imaginary animals
  17.    The house where you were born

A smell that brings back memories,
Feeling lonely, The moon, Getting lost, An imaginary friend, The hottest, coldest, or most exhausted you have ever felt, Having a fever, The shapes you see in clouds

Thanks for the suggestions, Quizzical.Zizzle! This will definitely help me choose my next ideas for Poetry Club themes.

This week's new theme is to write a poem about your favorite animal.

You can write anything that is about your favorite animal... anything that seems "poetic" about your animal is great :)

Pouncing,

Running,

Biting,

Clawing,

Playing,

Hissing,

Mini tiger,

Purring,

Sleeping,

Sunning,

Begging for a bite of your dinner,

Sleeping with you at night,

Keeping you company through bleak winter afternoons,

And cool spring mornings,

And hot summer afternoons,

And chilly autumn nights,

Your BFF-

CAT.

I wrote this based on my cat, but please note that while she does tend to be very playful and we call her Tiger, she does not (usually) bite us, claw us, or hiss at us. She is a VERY good kitty.

Dazzling white flawless fur

Ruffling through the chilling breeze

Her ice blue eyes blink once

And her dark eyelashes flutter

She rockets onto the frozen snow

Her tongue hanging loose,

Panting

Her glistening sharp teeth

Clench tight,

Waiting

POUNCE.

(It's about a snow leopard.)

Here's Lottie's poem:

Panther

Watching you from far above,

Looking at you without love;

Getting ready to pounce-

BANG!

Shot dead,

Nevermore will he kill.

I just wanted to let you know that I tasted my first venison tonight in the form of venison hamburg (chopped venison). It was really good, and fresh too; my uncle actually shot the deer this fall. ;S Kinda weird...

Twilight falls

White eyes appear and

A black paw creeps out of the shadows

And into the darkening burnished light

I don't know: CaptainRead helped me with this one by adding to the poem on a thread that I started. I like how it sounds...

Panda Poem

Black and white fur

Black circles around

Glistening dark eyes.

Lives in the tall bamboo forests

Climbing up tall green stalks

Emerging from the ground.

Furry and big

Beautiful creatures.

All paws on the ground

Looking up at the

Clear blue sky.

My favorite animal is a panda, so this is my poem honoring the giant panda!

The new theme for this week is to write a poem about your mornings, afternoons, or evenings using the five senses. Describe your mornings, afternoons, or evenings in the five senses: sight, taste, smell, touch, and hear. Please pick ONE (morning, afternoon, evening) only!

In the morning,

At the break of dawn,

I can hear

The bluebirds' song.

In the morning,

When the earth is waking,

I can smell

Coffee and bacon.

In the morning,

When the clouds are high,

I can feel around

For my alarm clock, with a sigh.

In the morning,

When I look at my window with a stare,

I can almost taste

The sweet, fresh air.

In the morning,

When the breeze whistles in the trees,

I can clearly see

The sun smiling,

Down at me.

In the morning,

I hear my alarm clock ring.

I open my eyes

And look out the window

And see the pink sky as the sun still rises

High above me.

I quickly dress,

And touch my warm fleece blankets as I pull neatly make my bed.

I wash my face,

And feel the cold water splash my face,

Finishing the task of waking me up.

I smell breakfast cooking,

So I rush downstairs to eat.

Mmmm, these muffins taste delicious! ;P

I quickly finish eating,

Brush my teeth,

And start school.

Mornings are my favorite time of day!

Here's Lottie's poem on the theme afternoon.:

In the afternoon,

I hurry home from school,

While looking at the beautiful mountain range in which I live.

In the afternoon,

I taste the after-school snack that mom makes me

And sometimes share it with my BFF (you know her as Mag Fan lol ;D).

In the afternoon,

I touch the old, old elm trees in my backyard,

And sit under them while I do my homework,

And listen to the bluebirds sing

From their perch high above my head.

All this happens in my afternoons.
