The Daily Punctilio!!!

The Daily Punctilio!!!

For those of you who know of the Unfortunate And Highly Annoying plights of Lemony Snickett and the Baudelairs, you will also know of the Most High Obnoxiousness of the Daily Punctilio.

Here, you can post sections of books/movies/stories-you-are-writing-yourselves/etc. that include something or someone that you find Particularly Pestiferous, Outstandingly Obnoxious, or just plain Individually Irritating (properly notated, of course with the author/book/etc. name/title so as to be Completely Legal And Within The Law, a title most unfortunately not held by either Mr. Snickett or the Daily Punctilio.)

Here, we shall discuss the traits that make people/groups/newspapers like Dolores Umbridge or the Daily Punctilio or....um, I actually can't think of any more at the moment, so I guess I should leave it at that and let you guys suggest more persona to add to the Great High List Of Reprehensible Characters That Leave You With A Sense Of Annoyed-ness.....okay, the title needs a little working on, but isn't “GHLORCTLYWASOA” a great acronym?.....nope, never mind, looking back at that, I'd say that it's just a little bit too long. (Just a little!)

P.S. Even if you have never heard of Lemony Snickett or the Daily Punctilio (or even Dolores Umbridge), you are welcome to share your insights on the sickly-sweet (or just plain evil) obnoxiousness of annoying characters you know.

I've been stewing myself in this series all day.  I read all of The Penultimate Peril and just started The End.

Spamster in his spamster cage says ncut.  And CUT!  Either cutting a scene or cutting off peoples' heads.  Either is perfectly acceptable, Spamster.  You canniballistic Spamster.

Top!

If people need ideas, here are some characters that really bug me sometimes:

Narnia: Eustace (pre-dragon)

Harry Potter: Lockhart (Aaargh!), Dolores Umbridge, Bellatrix (sometimes)

Series of unfortunate Events: Count Olaf (in his disguises with grown-ups around), Mr. Poe (when he says "Of course this couldn't be - cough cough splutter splutter - Count Olaf! Don't insult this respectable gentleman any further, children! splutter splutter cough cough")

That's all I can think of for now, except maybe for Mrs. Coulter in The Golden Compass, when you're reading it the second time and know her true nature.

Also, if anyone has better ideas for a title for the list, that would be just great!

in case this is confusing, it's pretty much the opposite of this: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/blababoutbooks/node/131091

Aren't there any horrible charcters in the book that you are reading right now?

The Subtle Knife/The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman: I could not stand Will Parry. From the start, I was really annoyed by him. For one thing, he doesn't have a scintillating character. He was so not worth falling in love with! And then I couldn't stand Lyra for being such a ditz about him at the end. And he couldn't really do anything; he was just this knife wielder. I would have liked it better if Lyra fell in love with Roger instead. And then there was that whole puberty thing that was a little uncomfortable and drawn-out. And how Pullman wasn't satisfied with just knocking the Church (which I agree has flaws), but had to go around bashing the Christian religion in general, especially that line of Mary Malone's in the Amber Spyglass about Christianity being some like some mistake or misunderstanding. I wish he had made up some other kind of religion he could air his complaints on, instead of being so political about normal things.

I think that was my whole problem with those last two books: the realm of fantasy was almost entirely lost. Mary and Will are too "normal." Too close to everday. And I missed Iorek and Lee Scoresby and Serafine Pekkala like nobody's business.

Emily's Quest by L.M. Montgomery: Don't get me wrong; I love this series. Just in this book, Emily's obsession with Teddy got a little too...well, obsessive. Just when her writing career was flourishing, and I wanted the focus to remain on the fact that she had almost climbed her Alpine Path, publishing her book and all, the whole Teddy/Ilse wedding had to be such a pall. Why does romance always have to kill a decent story???

Albina Fenton, from One Dog And His Boy by Eva Ibbotson

She is so annoying because she never seems to understand Hal.....until the very end.

Has anyone else read this book? It's very good.
