Chatterbox: Inkwell

New adventure/mystery RP!

New adventure/mystery RP! This is the first one I've ever started, so don't get mad if I mess up. I was thinking to do something where these kids are trying to figure out who is illegally hunting and selling animals in a rainforest. We need at least five people to join. Fill out this form for your character. I already put my answers.

Name: Cara Fray

Age: 13 1/2

Personality: quiet, observant, philosophical

Strengths: Archery, weeding out information

Weaknesses: Not athletic

We have a ton of people, so I think someone should start. I don't think any more people can join. We already have nine people. And have you noticed they're all girls? *giggles*

All right, I'll get the ball rolling!

Sapphire ~

Lacey, Lizbeth, June, Flower, Holly, Dorthy - oh, and me. Sapphire. I'm kind of extraordinary...in a really weird way. More on that later.

"So, wait - what animal is this again?" I inquired as we approached a paprika-colored raccoon-like animal scurrying away in the forest.

"Red panda," Lacey replied without missing a beat.

"We need to record this in our journals," I reminded everyone, copying the name down.

We'd all been hiking along a rocky path in a deep meadow, completing a project for Girl Scouts: learning the names of unusual animals. I was an animal lover, but didn't see any point in the activity. Nevertheless, I quickly sketched the outline of the red panda and motioned for the others to follow.

As we came across a family of cotton-tailed rabbits, a sharp yell emerged from the trees.

I dropped my notebook and ran for my life.

I knew that sound.

I just realized I made a mistake about my character. Cara is actually kind of athletic. Not very, just kind of. Her weakness is actually hand-to-hand combat. She's good at fighting from afar, like with a bow and arrow, but not up close. Sorry about the confusion!

Cara~

"Why do we have to go here?" groaned my best friend, Krystle. "It's so boring!"

"How do you know if you've never been here?" I said. "Now be quite, you'll scare the animals away."

We were at Greenwood Forest. I convinced Krystle to come with me, but apparently, she didn't like wildlife. I was trying to spot a specific animal: the squirrel monkey.

Suddenly, I heard a scream. Then lots of running footsteps coming our way. "Hold on," I told Krystle. I walked in the direction of the scream. I must've walked for a while, because I was in a different area of the forest. There were a group of Girl Scouts who looked like there was a monster chasing them.

"What are you guys scared of?" I asked a girl who looked kind of tough.

"I think we better get out of here," said the girl. She walked past me, followed by the other girls. "Name's Sapphire, by the way."

"Wait!" I called after them. I shrugged and found my way back to Krystle. "Who were you talking to?" she asked.

I shrugged. I didn't feel like talking now. I just felt like thinking. What were those girls scared of? Was it an animal? A person? All these thoughts swirled through my mind as I walked home with Krystle.

Guys, don't get offended by this post.  I hope you know that I would honestly never think of you guys in this way.  This character is just going to be a pain-in-the-butt at first and then will mature as the story goes on.

Lizbeth-

As always, I was the oldest on the trip.  As we hiked along without the counselors that our parents had been assured would be with us the whole time (that actually just stayed at the camp), I felt like a babysitter.  I don't know why my parents don't understand that signing me up for a camp in the rainforest is a bad idea.  Especially if they had to pay extra to break the age restrictions and get me in.  But they've never been very interested in me.  That's why I got into make-up and combat.

"Ooh, look, a butterfly!" Pacific screams out.  I roll my eyes.  "It's just a bug," I reply, "Don't get so excited."  She pouts a little, but doesn't say anything.  Her parents also got around age restrictions to get her here and so she's constantly trying to fit in.

Lacey ~

I lagged a little ways behind the other girls. After that yell, our nerves had been pretty well shattered. Plus, we'd lost the red panda. I knew there were poachers in this jungle, I just never thought we'd actually get in any sort of proximity to them.

Sapphire currently led the way, while Lizbeth got stuck with the role of babysitter, being the oldest. She looked miserable. Everyone did, to some extent. We were all here for some reason, none of which I doubted was because we'd actually desperately wanted to come. My foster parents had stuck me here, not sure what to do with me for a whole summer. They didn't want to take me on their family vacation (though of course, they would never admit to that), and instead made up some stupid excuse as to giving me an "educational opportunity to make friends and see the world". Yeah, seeing this never ending jungle with a bunch of girls who hated it as much as me was a real "opportunity". This would be ten times more fun if we could actually do something. Like find some real wild animals.

After awhile, we somehow ended up back at the camp, whether by Sapphire's choice or not, I didn't know.

I flung myself down onto my sleeping bag. The camp was more boring than the hike, but at least the pathetic excuses for counselors had the sense to bring scented candles to keep mosquitoes away.

"Great job, kids!" The lead counselor said cheerily, picking up one of our notebooks. He started to drone on about what we'd have to find tomorrow, but I tuned him out. I was determined to find something interesting to do, whether it was in the guidlines or not.

Cara~

"We're going back to the forest," I said.

Krystle stared at me. "Why?" she asked.

I shrugged. "Something spooked those Girl Scouts. I want to know what it is."

Krystle stood up. "Okay. I'm pretty bored anyway."

We hiked to the forest. When we got there, I wandered around until I came to a camp. There was a burned-out fire and some rolled-up sleeping bags. No one was at the camp. "I'm going to find those girls," I whispered to Krystle. She nodded.

I heard some voices and followed them, Krystle right behind me. We came to a group of the Girl Scouts.

"Not you again," groaned a girl. She looked familiar. What was her name? It began with an "s".

"What do you want?" she asked.

"What were you afraid of yesterday?" I demanded.

"If I tell you, will you leave me alone?" I nod.

"All right," she said.

Sapphire~

Cara nodded eagerly the second I asked her if she'd leave me alone. Of course, that'd only happen if I told her the...the...the Thing, which I'd taken to calling it recently.

"All right," I agreed reluctantly. "But you cannot, I repeat, cannot tell any other living soul. Got that?"

She nodded once more, this one with a tad of nervousness.

I motioned for her to follow me over to my bunk, where we sat, excluded from the other girls. I crossed my legs and chewed on my lower lip while Cara waited patiently.

"I...don't...really...have...any...parents..." I began, stretching out the syllables. "And...when...they...died - "

Cara's shock was apparent. "You were there?" she demanded in a whisper.

"Er, yes. Um, I heard this...scream-y sort of thing, and, I don't know, whenever I hear it I can't help but, like, run away from it."

"Do you hear it a lot?" Cara wondered, perhaps a bit too loudly.

I shushed her. "Yes," I whispered, "and it's actually been happening a lot more recently."

Cara's eyes were the size of dinner plates. I gave her a sad smile. "It's all right."

"Were you very close to them?"

"Don't remember."

"Don't you have any guardian then?"

"Yeah, my older brother. Cole. He's nineteen."

"What about college?"

"He didn't go so that he could take care of me."

"Oh, S - " Cara paused. "Sorry, what's your name?"

"Sapphire."

She smiled for a moment, and then, without any warning, pounced on me and engulfed me in an enormous hug.

What is an RP anyway (I'm new to CB)?

It's a role play, a cooperatively written story. Each person plays the part of one character and writes from that person's point of view.
