Here is one I'd like critiquing on.

Power

Courses through my veins

Fire, ice, electric,

unstoppable.

I can't halt it.

It is fire, and

I am BURNING

Clarity like ice

Cold calculation

invincible

Bud of flame, ever.

egg of ice, always

child of lightning

everlasting, only one.

Harbinger

a splash of orange

among green leaves.

 I sweat

as I write this,

but there remains

the memory

of a frigid

walk to school.

fall is in the air.

Okay! That's it! We NEED some rhymed or metered poetry here! Too much meterless free verse!

Much as I like free verse, it has to have meter (a beat) to be poetry.

THIS is free verse:

A whisper in the air

A ripple in the water

A song in the meadow

That sweetens my ear.

Not:

I feel powerful

I jump on my foe and crush him

People scream and run away

Because of me

Suddenly I fall and crash

Powerless to help myself as the heroes come

(I wrote that when I was eight and am annoyed with myself.)

Actually, the poem that you wrote when you were eight wasn't bad. It has a good message. What do you have against meterless free-verse? Poetry isn't always meant to have rhyme or reason.

Here is one I did a while ago.

Storm

Thud, thud, thud,

Squeak, squeak, squeak

The winshield wipers go.

The rain gets hard.

The thunder, loud.

The lightning, bright.

The air, cold,

The car, slow.

We wait.

Wait to arrive.

Wait to get home,

To be warm,

To be cozy,

And to feel safe.

But the house is far,

The rain, hard.

The thunder, loud.

The lightning, bright.

The air, cold,

The car, slow.

And we wait.

~

Do you guys like it?

Thank you for the metered poem.

I wait for a sign

A letter, or a note

Anything would be fine

If you read what I wrote

I've been sending you letters

Every day for a year

So to to make me feel better,

Just lend me your ear.

I've waited for notes

But you never write one

The chance is remote

That my waiting is done.

May I have some critiques on this please?

Ammunition

Cicada shells are plentiful in our backyard,

being used for bullets, shooting three at a time.

Cicada shedings are plentiful in our backyard,

we used to be amazed at how intact they were,

Today we use them for bullets;

shooting three at a time.

Their crouched forms, so detailed,

even if only a shadow shed from the

reality, so detailed, even including bulging

eyes glancing sideways like many other bugs

colored a shade of some rare brown

How could they even get out of there?

shot three at a time by young,

five-year-olds fingers, aimed by a stick

gun and thrown off with little force to

hit hard wood without sound

I got you yer dead, Dad!

Shells so detailed, now to be crushed.

"I Have Amazing Books to Read"

I have amazing books to read,

That wonder and astound;

Those capital conveyances

That sail the whole world 'round!

But though the lands of dreams are vast,

Pay heed to this my rhyme:

I have amazing books to read,

If I could find the time.

Please critique this:

waves crash over the sand

and I look over the land

and then over the sea

oh I wish I was a mermaid

swimming in the deep

a wish and a secret I must keep
