Welcome to ETHOS,

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Welcome to ETHOS,

Welcome to ETHOS, the Ethical Triumphant Heroes Of Survival. You may not know it yet, but you are a potential threat to the evil tyranny we call The Parliament. Yes, The Parliament is evil. I thought you'd figured that out by now, after being captured, thrown from prison to prison, and finally shipped...here. To this island. This place will test your survival skills like never before. But don't worry. We are here to help.

So! This is an RP set in a futuristic, science fictional setting. The government, which is a Parliament, is evil and plans to take over the world. It secretly captures everyone able to resist it and ships them off to an evil island far from the mainland. Nobody else knows of this island's existence. But the captured prisoners formed a secret organization called ETHOS, which is dedicated to defeating the terrible island and training the new prisoners that arrive every month. (Those will be our charries!)

The island is evil. It swarms with monsters and evil creatures, lurking in the shadows of the deep forest, their eyes glimmering. Swamps are found frequently, full of deadly quicksand and poisonous muck. There are pools of lava, hidden crevasses, electric lakes, geysers that shoot acid 50 feet high, walking trees, and of course, tons of monsters. It is unknown why the island is so dreadfully cursed, but if ETHOS can discover its secrets, perhaps we could get back to the mainland and warn the citizens about the evil Parliament.

One charrie per person, two if you really want to. Here is the sheet:

Name:

Appearance and Age: 11-15

Personality:

Powers and/or secrets: Basically the reason he/she was captured in the first place. They could have a minor power, know something about the government, etc.

Backstory:

I hope this works. :)

Liana~

“Hi, I’m Trap,” a girl says.

“I’m,” I pause for a sec to think of a good false name, then
decide better of it, “I’m Liana.”

“Nice to meet you,” says Trap. “Maybe if we team up we can
get out of this place.”

“That would be good.”

I’m brain dead right now, so I’ll post more later.

Dawn is also a kinda good builder. She can build herself a small but sturdy house if she needs it.

Dawn~ I wake up in a ship's hold. The first thing I notice is the smell of salt water. After being in prison after prison and smelling all the nasty stuff of the city this smell is new and wonderful. When my eyes adjust to the dim light of the hold, I see that there are seven other girls. One of them is hovering next to the ceiling on a giant bat. There are three boys. Almost everyody looks eleven or twelve or thirteen and all of them are tied up. I  wriggle around, testing my bonds. Whoever tied them wasn't very good at tying knots.

A trapdoor opens in the ceiling and a ladder comes down. A few people stand up and test it, then we climb up. When we get to the top I am almost blinded by sunlight. I blink and stare at my surroundings. We are in the middle of a dark blue ocean on a small wooden boat. Ahead and a little to the right of us is a small island.

The island had a beach of coarse gray sand and trees with dark wood farther on. Suddenly a chilling howl rang out. It sent shivers down my spine and it sounded like it came from the island.

A man comes down from the steering wheel. He looked very nerves but he tried not to show it. He pointed o the island and said in a low voice, " Your're going there."

Jacob-

I wake up and feel that whatever I'm on is rocking from side to side. I'm tied to a rough wooden floor with an old, scratchy rope. When my eyes adjust, I see that I'm on a boat, and we are approaching an island. Great. Another prison. For a moment I am panic stricken. I quckly scan the room and find my friend tied up across from me. Good. If she's going to the same place as me, this new prison might not be that bad.

In all my time in prison, I've only had one friend. I met her just two months ago. I used to have powers, but I was caught one year ago, and the parliament took me away. They stripped me of all my power, and left me extremely weak. In the past year I've been in and out of 7 prisons. The shortest time I stayed in one place was two weeks, the longest was three months. I really don't know why they move me around so much. It's not like I can do anything to them. If I tried to attack, I'd probably collapse after one hit. In my last prison, I was lucky. I met a girl named Catherine who's a year older than me. She was the only person that was ever nice to me, and the only one that would talk to me. Most people don't bother talking to me becauseI never seem to be paying attention. Truth is, I usually don't. I tune out on anything I'm not interested in, which is most things. I can't help it. When we're getting lectured on something boring and I start thinking about something else for two seconds BAM I'm not listening anymore and people ignore me.

Oh well, enough complaining about my life. The boat has stopped. Some crew members come and help us get of the boat, holding our hands behind our backs the whole time. They all seem to be trying to hide their fear - of what I don't know - and once we are off they board the ship and leave in record time.

"How are you doing?" Catherine asks.

"I'm okay, but there's something strange about this island, and I'm dreading finding out what it is," I reply.

-------------

Catherine is Jacob's only friend that I mentioned on my charrie sheet. If someone wants their charrie to be his friend instead, then they can tell me.

I smelled the sea before I saw it. I also smelled the other people in the small boat. I could smell the sweat and blood and I could tell that these were people like me. Fighters and particulaly of the government. I opened my eyes and saw nine other kids. They all looked younger than me but some looked like they had gone through more harshness and roughness than I.

The boat docked and we were shoved off onto the beach. I immediately started to try to get out of the ropes that were restraining me. I saw some of the other kids doing the same. I got free, then stood and watched the struggles next to me.

I am going camping for three days so I have to take a break. Dawn is with two older people who came when they were 15. They will take care of her until I get back. If anybody else stumbles apaun them that is fine.

Dawn~ We are all pushed into a small boat and rowed out to the island. We landed on the beach and were pushed off then the boat rowed away. I climb free of the ropes that I had been working on since I was bound and stood up. All of the other children had freed themselves and for a moment we stood looking at each other, then the bushes rustled andaa giant black wolf stepped out. It howled and three other wolves came. Everybody was still for a moment then the wolves charged. We scattered. Most of the kids ran towards the forest and I ran with them. Then once we were in the cover of the forest I sheeared away and ran in a different direction. I heard a low growl and looked back. Instantly I regretted it. One of the wolves was right behind me. He lunged and I felt his claws scrape my back. I screamed and kept running. Then the wolf whimpered and fell. I collpased and looked behind me.

The black wolf was lying on the ground, and a man that looked about 17 was standing on it. A girl stepped out of the underbrush and picked me up. She touched my back and the pain made me black out.

When I woke up I saw immediately I was in a treehouse. A few feet away the girl was rubbing some leaves and bark together. When she saw me try and move she said, "Jack, she is awake."

Then she said to me, "Lie still. I have a healing salve that I can give you for your back. I am Beth and welcome to the Ethical Triumphent Heroes Of Survival. "

Morgan~

My eyes snap open. I quickly take in my surroundings. There are a lot of kids, but they are all tied up, lots of gray sand, and no trees for assasins to hide in or behind. Good. There appears to be no immediate danger. All the kids are tied up with rope. Easy enough. I quickly untie the knot with my fingers and look around around some more. I recognize all the kids from the prison camp we used to be in. There are maybe 9 or 10 of us, and all the others look weak and scared, so they probably pose no threat. I stand up, and look around for food to eat, or water to drink. It looks like there is nothing. That is not good, as the wardens haven't fed me for almost two days now. It's not as if being fed is better- as the prison food is gray, cold and nasty. But we ALL had to suck it up and eat it, as there wasn't anything else. The water they gave us was warm, and gritty, served to us in small dirty cups. I start thinking about how I got put in prison in the first place. My father was a member of Parliment. He didn't do much- just organized paperwork and such. But one day, he was going through some files and found out about Parliment's evil plans to take over the world. He tried to keep secret about it, but he didn't realize that Parliment already suspected him of trying to foil his plans, and put secret cameras in our home. He was telling me and my mother about wheat he saw when some of Parliment's agents broke into our house, killed my father and imprisoned me and my mother. They shipped me off to some prison camp in the far reaches of England. I don't know what became of my mom, if sh'es still alive. She's really the only thing I worry about. I don't much care about anything else. I have nightmares sometimes about Parliment torturing her for information, but I don't know if that's actually happening, or if I imagined it.

I am snapped back to reality by the grunts of a small boy trying to untie himself.

"Here," I say, walking over to him. "Let me help." I expertly untie his ropes. "What's your name?"

"I'm Perry," he says. "Who are you?"

"My name is Morgan," I reply. I vaguely remember seeing this boy at one of the prisons. He is small, looks about 11, and has short black hair and blue eyes. "How did you get here?" I ask.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
@Queen Elizabeth- I didn't know what Perry would do. I hope I didn't control your charrie too much.
@Regina- How should we introduce Mark and Morgan? I don't have any ideas.
@ Leafmist : You're fine! I would love for Perry and Morgan to be friends!
Perry~
I squirm with the ropes a little, but running from the Parlament earlier really drained me. Plus- my head still hurt like anything. The ropes refused to budge, and I was about to give up, when a girl walks over to me. I tense not knowing if she is friend or foe. She kneels down and unties me. Oh, false alarm. Geez, Perry, you're tense! "Hi," she speaks uncertainly, "I'm Morgan." "Perry," I reply, "Do you, by any chance, know where we're going?" Morgan pales. "U-um, yeah," she gulps, "Yeah. It's an island," she stutters haltingly, "a terrible island."
Sorry it's so short. I have a set amount of computer time today.
@Leafmist, one of them could be in danger or something and the other one comes up and offers to help but the one in trouble is too stuborn to accept. Then when things get too far for the one person to handle the other one steps in and helps.  I'm not sure that was very clear, but it's an idea.
Raksha-
When I first saw the ETHOS camp, I was amazed. Later, I would realize that there was a flaw in its structure that could prove fatal to all of us. But when I first caught sight of the makeshift stockade, it might as well have been the ninth wonder of the world.
Branches, some as thick as my arm, stood straight up out of the earth. More bendable twigs were lashed between them to form an impenatrable barrier with incredible strength. The inner stockade was similar, but not as durable. Between the two was a hallway in which spare weapons and supplies could be stored. The branches had pokey ends, and it wasn't insulated from the temperature, but it was safe. That was all that mattered.
When the wolves had appeared on the beach, I had run in the direction of the shadowy forest, hoping to lose them. Then I had seen a group of lights making their way under the darkening sky, and I had instinctively turned in that direction. I stumbled upon a group of boys and girls in their late teens, who were carrying branches alight with fire. Apparently the wolves avoided fire, because they circled around the group, but never approached. Among the people were some of the prisoners that had been on the boat with me.
"Rachel, you should probably take this group back to camp. We can't just sit here attracting monsters, and the torches won't last forever." The speaker was an older boy with messy brown hair and deep shadows under his eyes. He looked like he had been carried by a tornado across two continents.
"Who will be there to open the gate?" replied a girl with a head of blond curls now closely resembling a bird's nest.
"I saw Jack heading in that direction. Maybe he's gotten there already."
"But we can't be sure... What if I'm stuck outside?"
"Then you use the Emergency Entrance."
"All right." she said uncertainly. "Um, everyone follow me!"
Dawn, who I recognised from the boat, asked "Where are we going?"
"Back to camp. I can answer all your questions there."
"But how can we be sure that you aren't with the Parliament? Do you have any proof?"
Another boy made a low growling noise in his throat. There was an awkward pause. Then he said quietly, "If I could come across anyone from the Parliament, I would make them brave their own island. In the middle of the forest. No supplies. Make them get a taste of what they've done to us."
"Why don't we go now?" said Rachel. She was looking at the boy warily.
After that, a mad dash ensued. At least seven wolves were on our tail, and there were other things. I wasn't sure what they were, but they gave you that feeling like a cold trickle of water on the back of your neck. And I sensed that as the night grew stronger, so would they. Then I saw the stockade.
Rachel pounded on a section of the wall, screaming "Open up! Open the gates!" Just as the pack of wild dogs were almost upon us, part of the stockade gave way, and we were literally thrown inside. There was a sickening crunch as the gate slammed shut behind us. I could hear the dogs' howling and yelps from the other side.
Where had the government dumped me this time?
Perry~
I grip Morgan's hand, noting the way she carries herself. Proud, but in a "I'm not garbage, and you can't treat me like it" way. I instantly realize we just became friends. My happy thoughts are inturrupted by screams and howls. Howls. Distant, and definatly not human. I shiver as the menacing noise runs down my back like raindrops. As if on instinct, Morgan and I cautiously slip into the forest, towards the screams. It's dark; I naw realize we should have bruoght a torch. "Do you have a sharp object?" I ask, rummaging in my pockets. Thankfully, the Parliment thugs had not thought to empty them. "Mmhm," Morgan tosses me a broken knife blade as the night deepens. She probably tried to use it against the Parliment and broke it. But that doesn't matter now. A piece of wire in my hand (I always carry spare parts), and Morgan's knife in the other, I strike a spark."Quick, a branch," I call. She hands me a sturdy one, and our torch is born.
