NEW POETRY CLUB

NEW POETRY CLUB 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so this is the second poetry club I've created. The last poetry club got through three poems before it died...but it had an AMAZING discussion, especially on the poem "A Dream Within a Dream" by Edgar Allen Poe. If you want to join the poetry club, first please find time to read the discussion for that poem, found on pages four through six. It really was an amazing, deep discussion. Here is the link:  http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/176516?page=3

NOTE: It is never too late to join. Anyone can drop in at any time.

Anyway, let's get started! Here is how it will work, for now.

In a nutshell: we choose a poet and one of their poems, discuss it, then at some point, once we've had a good discussion, a prompt will be given and we will write our own poems based on the prompt, which will relate to the poem. Or it may simply say, "Write a poem inspired by this one." Then, once we've done all that, we move on to a new poem.

First, we vote on a poet. You can start listing ideas for nominations. At some point, I'll lsit all the nominees, we vote, majority wins.

Whichever poet we choose, we will start out with one of their poems. if you don't mind, I would like to post the first poem. After that, whoever wants to post the poem can do so.

Once the poem is posted, a schedule will be made, resembling something like this:

1. Share the poem. (READ)

2. Vocab Person, define words. (DEFINE)

3. Discuss the poem, its meaning, its feeling, how we would have changed it, whatever you want to discuss about it! (DISCUSS)

4. Prompts are given, we discuss it and write our own poems. (WRITE)

5. Discuss each other's poems, compare it, etc. (WRITE)

If you're wondering what Vocab Person is, that's if one of you would like to volunteer for listing any possibly unknown words (not necessarily words you don't know, but words somebody else might not know) and their definition. That would help to understand the poem.

So, please join! Even if you won't be able to be extremely devoted to it...the more people the better!

Oops, I meant Emily B, not Emily S.

@Mei: You'll have to decide between Frost or Angelou, since nobody can vote twice.

Im gonna write a poem!

Ancient trees with ivy

wrapped around their trunks.

Birds sing in the treetops

without a care in their minds.

The forest is my sacred place,

I love the sounds, sights and smells.

The creek babbles with an unwavering pace,

With tiny fish darting around the rocks.

Too bad the trees are falling,

People with cacophonous chainsaws,

Cutting down my home.

Now another poem! It's called Pawstep after pawstep.

Pawstep after pawstep.

The cat hunts.

The golden sunlight warms his pelt,

But he does not frolick or play.

Pawstep after pawstep.

A mouse remains unaware.

Silent steps, falling like leaves

On a crisp autumn day.

Pawstep after pawstep.

Predator and prey.

The cat leaps high into the sky,

To find a mouse under his paws.

Pawstep after pawstep,

The cat trots back home.

@ Emily:

Really? Mei-xi isn't my real name.

When is your next standardized test? What grade are you in? What do you think about math class?

These are personal questions, and if you don't want to answer them, then that is fine.

Oops! it's actually Mirax I know in real life. (She came to my house a few days ago.)

I'm homeschooled and don't have standardized tests, and am technically in 8th grade. However I am in high school geometry and 7th grade science. Reading isn't a subject for me anymore as I am crazy-fast at it. I enjoy math to some extent, but I don't love it.

I love reading, writing and cats. I write decent poems and short stories and have made some short compositions on the piano. Feel free to ask me personal questions of that kind!

By the way, we now have twelve members: Regina, Joan, Mei, Owlgirl, Hermione A, Hootsie, Rosebud, Smolbean, Arin, Emily B, Abigail S, and Bumblebuddy.

Here is the vote so far:

Emily Dickinson- 2

Mary Oliver- 3

Robert Frost- 1

Maya Angelou- 1

Tennyson- 0

Barbara Groce- 1

Edgar Allen Poe- 0

Lewis Carroll- 0

Langston Hughes- 0

Mary Oliver is winning so far.

Four haven't voted: Smolbean, Mei, Joan, and Bumblebuddy. I included Mei, but she doesn't really count since she already said that she didn't care which we picked, so I take it that you're not voting, Mei? So I guess really three people.

THIS IS THE LAST DAY TO VOTE!

Sorry if I'm micromanaging here...I always micromanage for like, the first three or four pages of whatever thread I start. After that, I seem to take a chill pill.
