Welcome to Runiea,

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Welcome to Runiea,

Welcome to Runiea, the glittering capital of science and engineering, the most modern and thriving city in the world.

The city is dominated by Alpha Enterprises, the first and foremost company in scientific advancement and discovery. No one quite exactly knew what Alpha Enterprises did, outsiders were discouraged from getting a closer look. Anyone who poked their nose too deep where it didn't belong sudden disappeared without a trace.Other, more mysterious things, that no one could explain, constant thuds and unhuman screams, and shipments of things that didn't quite match up.

The people of the city, and the rest of the world, too, did not concern themselves about such rumors. Alpha Enterprises had practically built this glorious city, and they were what made it important. Alpha Enterprises were the future of humanity. No one was going to argue with that. Alpha Enterprises had laid out a red carpet for humanity to the stars as they claimed to be inventing commercial transportation to space. There could have never been a more innovative time in human history.

Until something happened.

No one was quite sure exactly what it was, it seemed to be a combination of nuclear explostion, wild-fire and earthquake. Alpha Enterprises's main lab had exploded, sending everything within miles into flames, while radioactive materials leaked their way into the air and water. The city was declared unsafe, and everyone was evacuated. No one was supposed to set foot here until at least two hundred years has passed. This grand city seems to have been forgotten by humanity.

But this place is not dead.

Alpha Enterprises had been experimenting with genetic engineering, altering the genetic code of nearly every living thing that they could try--humans included, in an attempt to create something new, something powerful.

They never got there. But, oh, did they try.

The streets are now haunted by monsters, failed experiments, genetic nightmares with nowhere else to go. They are ghosts of what Alpha Enterprise wanted for the future, a terrifying looking future.

About twenty years have passed, and Alpha Enterprises are beginning to rise again. They have come back to Rueniea. They want their experments back, before anyone finds out what they did. They want to keep trying at what they have kept failing: Something powerful. Something to be feared.

They are coming back for their ghosts. And they will find all of them.

~~

So! You can be one of said genetic nightmares, or someone working for Alpha Enterprises. Get creative with your character! Make 'em whatever you want, l'm not picky.

Some notes/rules:

Please remain dedicated to this, don't join then vanish into thin air.

Two characters at the most.

l'm not picky about how powerful your character is, but if your character is powerful, don't play hero in every conflict and don't win every fight.

Character Sheet:

Name:

My characters:

Name: Nightingale

Age: Young adult--she doesn't know exactly.

Appearance: Long blond hair, large dull green that glow faintly. She has large, bat-like ears on the side of her head (She's a bat/human hybrid) and a mouth full of very sharp and jagged teeth that make it hard for her to talk properly. Large black wings that are attached to all along the underside of her arms and her sides, kinda like a bat's. She can fly by spreading her arms. Has retractable claws. She wears a long black leather coat, baggy black pants, and a black sweater, a ruby necklace, and leather gloves.

Nightingale’s eyes are almost completely blind, beyond being able to see light, large objects and motion.

Personality: Hateful. Vengeful. A loner, likes to be alone. She never had anyone who loved her, most everyone thinks she's a freak because of the way she looks.. She doesn't understand love or kindness, more than ready to hurt anyone who threatens her. But deep down, she's hurt and kind of lonely, but she'll never tell you that. Careful, more of someone who stays on the sidelines instead of jumping right in, she tends to avoid people.

Skills/powers: Echolocation, can fly, enhanced hearing, and a ultrasonic scream.

Backstory: She was born with a genetic disorder and wasn’t expected to live more than a few years before the disorder killed her. Her parents worked with Alpha, and they saw genetic engineering as the only way to save their child. Alpha promised that they would do what they could for Nightingale, and took her in. Her parents never saw her again. Alpha did save her life, but ironically with experimenting that made her unable to live normally ever again.

Other: Nothing.

Name: Mecury

Age: 16 or so.

Appearance: Silver-grey hair, grey eyes, oddly metallic-looking skin.

Personality: Annoyingly talkitive, scatterbrained, ever cheerful, he tends to take nothing seriously, not terribly helpful when it comes to anything, immature, bit of a jerk.

Skills/powers: No known powers, but pretty good with various weapons and tools.

Backstory: Remembers very little of Aplha Enterprises, though he knows that they somehow did sometthing to him, he isn't sure. Anything before that is completely forgotten.

Other: Nope.

Enjoy! :)

Tabby~

Night is my favorite time of day.

It's very easy to stop the toxins from coming into you-- although I didn't know that there were toxins until I almost died from them. Almost, obviously, or I wouldn't still be here.

It was my first day in Runiea, my first day being something I am not. I was feral then, or more feral than I am now, and I quailed under the sun I now see is a blessing. Following the insticts of my former life, which were the only ones I could remember, I slept until twilight.

At first, all was well, but as night drew on I realized I was not breathing-- could not breathe. I thought I was going to die, then and there, but then I saw someone.

I never saw them again, but they told me what I needed to know. The cloth around my legs, which I then did not understand the use for, could be used to wrap around my mouth and nose. It muffled the smell I use to get along, but it also stopped the poisons from getting into my body.

Later on, I found a grubby backpack. As each day went by, I found myself become less and less feral. I knew the words for more things when before there were simply blanks, or long descriptions. I found myself more comfortable in the sun, more comfortable walking on my hind legs.

I was becoming-- and I know the word now-- more human.

Tonight is just another night. I tie the cloth around my face and make my way out. The crumbling, dusty, worn old buildings have never held any appeal to me-- the only reason I go there is for shelter from the tainted rains. No, I prefer the alleys-- the ground is my territory. I know every inch of the floors of Runiea. Why would I need to know the buildings?
I do, however, know one. This is my food building. I have no problem eating rodents or birds-- it's in my nature. But I also know that they eat the tainted food that is in abundance in Runiea, and will make me sick. Everything here does, really.

My food building is the most stable of them all, and the most impending. It is a challenge. It is all metal that once would have been striking, but is now dull and worn and dusty. All of its doors creak, and dust flies with every step, but it is important.

In this building is the only untainted food, as far as I can tell. I stay near it as often as I can. Sometimes I am forced to guard it from the monsters that live here, the radioactive creatures so far gone they could be subject to pity.

But I don't pity them.

Often, more food is found in my building, more than there was before. I suspect that it is in use by someone other than me, someone who has communication outside of this wasteland. I do not know who it would be; I have never seen them, and I do not want to. They do not stop me from taking their food, so why should I care?

I stuff some into my backpack and leave.

Curiousity killed the cat. . .

Luna~ Night again, of course. The time where things really get interesting. During the day humans stalk the streets, obsessing over little, shiny electronics and hiding behind profiles. But at night, things become more honest. THe creatures, the different ones, creep out. The humans won't accept them, kinda ironic considering that's how the creatures came to be--from the help of humans.

I too, am human, but sometimes I don't feel like it. I want to sleep, I am desperate for it. Last night I got what, five or so hours? Then the nightmares came again. Every time I close my eyes, dreams flash inside my head. I waske up sweating, my arms and legs tangled in knots of bed sheets.I groan. The only thing I can do is go out again, the time when there's no sun.

I blink sveral times, trying to activate my night vision. Everything dark and gray suddenly becomes tinged with green, like I'm looking through military goggles.

I swish for a second, and feel my black tail scoot out from my pants. I keep it hidden by wrapping it around my waist, giving a stiff, awkward appearance. Now, it is free to swish and do what it wants.

I leap over the garden's fence, balancing carefully on the post tips. The dogs bark at me, almost ready to wake the neigbors. I reach my hand towards the sky, and pretend to pluck a star from it. The star is relatively low-lighted--I don't want to hurt the dogs. I concentrate, and fling my hand toward their faces. The star light hits them, and the stumble back, running and disappearing into their dogs houses.

"Scaredy cats," I scoff.

I spend several hours under the blanket of navy, dodging police as they patrol the streets, and neaking food from restarants. Soon, however, the sun comes up, lighting up the world.

I sigh. The daytime has no use for me, as of I do it. It'd be nice if I could control the sun's rays like I can the stars and moon. Actually, I think, it should count. The sun is a star. But it doesn't count. The sun, same as them, is also different.

I take one more peek at the giant star before vanishing into the alleyways again. Hopefully I can get some sleep.

Penny~

Yellow buildings, yellow streets, yellow flowers. That's all my eyes can see. The air even seems tinted yellow now.

I'm not sure what those scientists did to me. Perhaps they combined the plant dna with my own. I don't know. And I don't really care anymore. It's mostly survival now. I'm probably crazy, wrapped in my own exotic dreams. In an abandoned city with other probably radioactive experiments. But if this is a dream, I sure wish I would wake up.

My small alleyway is near. I can't afford others knowing my power, seeing how much it does for me. Peeling the vines off the secluded area, I squeeze into the alleyway. Inside, is my home.

Plants of all shapes and sizes curl upward into the sky, attaching themselves to buildings, rocks, anything to get them a bit of sunlight. They're a bit iike us, really. All fighting over a small little city.

I kneel down next to my tomantoes. Spreading out my fingers, I carefully control the plants, the tomatoes getting larger and riper. Peeling one off the plant, I chew on it slowly.

It's just the plants and me now.

Era~

I dashed through the streets, tail flicking behind me like the rudder of a motorboat. My fangs glinted in the starlight as I bared my teeth, sniffing the air.

I didn't have super-smell; others, I was sure, did, but I didn't. I had merely trained myself, picking up the sweat on others, the telltale stench of chemicals, a liar's rancid scent.

Tonight I smelled cans. Possibly of food.

I teleported towards it; a girl lay next to it, sides rising and falling gently. I felt pity, but that can of beans was too much temptation.

I lifted it with telekinesis.

I hadn't counted on it being so close to her.

She woke with a start as the freezing metal brushed her; I waved it into my hand. She yelled angrily when she saw me; I was stealing her food, after all. Her long, shiny black hair was offset by navy blue eyes. She lunged at me with the agility of a cat, and I barely had time to teleport away.

Oog. The telepoting made me tired.

She whirled again, recovering from her fall easily. I swallowed hard as she prepared to pounce.

The dome. I would be safe.

The dome was a glass-domed botanical garden, impossible to climb for even those with claws. However, it flattened out on top...

But it was half a mile away.

I panicked and teleported, just as the girl grabbed me and came with me...

The girl and I appeared on top of the dome with the can of beans.

I promptly collapsed.

Name: Olivia Carter

Age: 35 in human years, but she seems to age slowly, appearing an average 18 year old.

Appearance: Dark brown hair usually up in a ponytail, electric blue eyes, tall and slim.

Personality: kind, attentive, always seems a bit confused though she tries to hide it by devoting herself to her work.

Skills/Powers: her bright blue eyes glow in the dark, she also can become incredibly strong for a few minutes, and as I said, she ages slowly.

Backstory: she was brought into Alpha Enterprises when she was a child, apparently to cure a rare heart disease she had. She was supplied with a metal heart and kept there to recover. At age 10 she ran away, finally discovering her strange powers that must have been implanted during her surgury. Constantly traveling, she lived in a constant fear of being found by the AE agents she thought were following her. 5 years later, the company collapsed, along with the entire city. Reassured that nothing was following her, she found a job as a mechanic until she heard about AE's plan to revive the company. She joined the mission, determined to find out more about her life before her powers.

Seeing that Maggie and Mercury are both very similar, and that my character is also very flat, he is going to be changed.

Name: Mercury

Age: Adult, not young anymore but not middle aged yet.

Appearance: Eccentric, spiky brown hair, and brown eyes. He has a gaunt, half-starved look to him, but also electrically alive at the same time.Constantly wears a scarf firmly wrapped around his lower face.

Personality: Wary, generally not a very pleasant person to be around, sarcastic. He does have a nicer, if more reluctant side. Loyal, to the overly excessive point, stubborn. He's a tad eccentric, and refuses to see anything as if really is.

Skills/powers: Electricity/fire, more to be explained as it develops.

Backstory: Unlike most victims of Alpha, he remembers his past very acutely, but oddly without any important details, such as names and locations.

Other: Nope.
