Ilfay RP

(Pronounced ILL-fay)

Long ago, the continent of Ilfay was colonized by a few colonists, who had been shipwrecked upon the island. The island was virtually paradise, except for the wastelands on the right side of the mountains.

The continent had a ridge of mountains running through it, with only two places to cross over without having to travel over the mountains, one at either end of the island. The larger of the two passes was a desert, which few ever returned from.

However the smaller pass led to ground which was amazingly fertile, and grew anything there. The colonists had been setting forth to colonize a nearby chain of islands, but they had been blow off course and only half of the group survived.

The Captain and his men perished, as they toiled to save the families lives. They famalies, not lacking common sense, made a list of who had survived. However, the paper was lost long ago, and many were most likely forgotten as their tale was passed on from generation to generation.

The richer families quickly settled in the richer areas, cultivating the livestock they had brought with them. But before I continue, I'd best describe the nature of the country on the left side of the mountains. You know what it's like? Fine then, tell me.

Yes, the higher country is covered in trees. There were more trees back then, you know. The lowerlands are covered in mud? I say they are covered in clay. Don't just repeat the things your parents say about them. They are a powerful country in their own right.

Yes, I do belive we live in the richest land. Right smackdab in-between those who cut down wood, and those who make clay into bricks. Well, we are the decendants of the richer famlies. Now don't interupt, and let me finish.

Now the richer famlies settled in the richer land, cultivating livestock. The other famlies dispersed, a couple settling amoung the richer folk, much to their displeasure. The families chose where they would live according to their abilities.

But where beauty and prosperity bloom, the weeds of deformity and poverty soon follow. A few of their children were found to have magic, so they were cast out into the wilderness of the mountains.

But the children survived, using magic. They were outcasts, and did everything they good to destroy the colonists. But all had to be done in secret, and only small things, such as inciting unrest, greed, and jelousy.

There wern't many of them, but they survived for generations. And to this day, they lurk about in today's society. The unrest which they sowed in our spirits led to a monarchy. Several, actually.

There are are now five countries, Ilsveth the country of wood, Ilara our beautiful country of pastures and livestock, Ilper the country of clay, Ilmeri the country of stone, and Ilwer the country of the golden crop.

So is that why there is so much political unrest now? Quite right. Quite right. In fact we must pray that you are not in danger, your highness ... (ILL-s-veth, ILL-ara, ILL-per, ill-MEER-ee, and ILL-weer)

So! Did ya like that^? I hope so. I spent an hour on it. So as the teacher mentioned, there is political unrest in Ilfay. Ilara and Ilwer are at war, and Ilper recently agreed to an alliance. Assasins and spies are being sent out into all the kingdoms to ensure an alliance with certain kingdoms, and to destroy certain people in high positions.

Mother sits by Father, and I stand beside her. Alissa is clutching my hand tightly, a frightened look on her face. Karianna stands on the other side of Father, by the magic user who is trying to cure him. The other magic user had been escorted to the dungeons, where she would wait for this one. She would come the next time.

This magic user, Hecate, kneels down by Father, and places her hands on his forehead. Karianna gasps, and I try not to flinch. Who knew what Hecate could do to Father? I hoped for the best. A pink glow appears around Father's head.

"Did it work?" I ask her, hopeful.

"I-I don't know," She says quietly, "We'll have to wait until he wakes up."

I nod, and some servants escort her to the dungeons. I wince. Harsh. And she didn't even do anything wrong. I notice Mother talking to us, "When they heal Iberon, we'll burn them at the stake. They're witches, after all! And witches did this to your Father. They all deserve to be burned. Burned! None of them will survive."

I look at her, startled, "But... didn't you say they could be free to be like a regular citizen after this?!"

Mother glances at me, and I can see in her eyes that this isn't really her. It's a part of her that was driven mad by the stress and Father's sickness. A part of her that longs for revenge. I wince the moment those eyes settle on me, "So? I lied. It's not like they don't do it!"

I nod, heading out, her words repeating in my head. Burn them at the stake. For what? For healing Father? I do hate magic users, but this just isn't right! They shouldn't be punished for helping us! I knew that I had to help them.

Alissa came running after me, her eyes wide, "Why do they have to be killed, Anisa? Why? Aren't they helping us?"

And I made a quick decision. I whisper softly, "Yes, Alissa, they are helping us. That's why we are going to prevent them from dying. We're helping them now. After they cure Father completely, we're going to help them escape. But, Alissa, don't tell anyone. Anyone.

And I head for the dungeons.

Oww...my head....oww....I slowly open my eyes. Why was I sleeping standing up? Oh, Ilwerian sandals. I'm chained to the wall right next to...Kir I think it was? "Kir!" I hiss. He opens his eyes immediately, making me think he (or is it she? sorry, I forget.) was fake sleeping. "They brought us here to kill us..." He/She whispers. "Look." A paper lies at the ground at my feet. "Can you read it? I don't know how..." I say, with a tiny blush. "The words are too fancy."

Kir squints a tiny bit and reads. "Come see the death spectacle! Come watch two Wizards get burned alive in the town square. Admission is free." I gasp. "They can't do this! Don't these people have any pity for wizards whatsoever? I mean, I'm just a kid!" I whisper furiously. "Quiet! It says that it's going to happen tommorow." Kir whispers.

"But I'm just a ki-" "That's not going to help us escape, is it?" My mind goes through the circumstance. "If we're tied, back to back, on a wooden pole, like that says, I might be able to run fast enough to take the pole out of the ground. But it would still be on fire...." We think for a few moments, when I hear footsteps coming down the hall. And the clang of metal. Something I recognize.

"That metal clang is guard armor moving quickly." I whisper. "And those footsteps must be the guard. How long have I been out?!" I whisper. Kir looks at me. "What if it's today? I don't know how long we've been here." He/she whispers frantically.

I walk around the dungeons for a while, trying to avoid guards. After a while, I hear a noise behind me, and I whip around. Alissa stars back at me, and I groan, "Alissa! Why are you here?"

"To help you."

I bite my lip, and hold her hand, continuing. After a while, I hear voices, "But I'm just a kid!" I go toward them. I see the witches, Hecate and Kir, chained against the wall. So they haven't been asleep that long. Only a few hours. It was midnight, and it had been around dinner time when they fell asleep. They haven't noticed my yet.

"Hello," I whisper, "Be quiet!"

They turn toward me, jumping. Hecate moves away from me, looking at me warily. So they've seen the pamphlet a guard left them, "Are you here to take us to out deaths?" Hecate demands. She looks angry and miserable, "I'm just a kid! Your age! Why-"

"Hecate," Kir warns her.

"Listen. It's midnight. The one before your scheduled burning. Father's getting better. I'm here to help."

The gawk at me, unbelieveing looks in their eyes, "How do we know your not tricking us? Like the time you said we could go free if we healed the king, then decided to KILL us? Huh?" Hecate strains against the chains, her eyes flashing, "How do we know you're not evil?"

"I'm just a kid! Like you! And Alissa's even younger! I'm not evil! We're both humans! And... like I said... I'm here to help you. I don't want you dead. You helped us. You cured Father. Now I'm going to help you escape."

"When?" Kir asks, cautiously.

I hesitate, unsure of what to say, "Um-"

"Now," Alissa says, "Now."
