Ok, this is

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Ok, this is

Ok, this is a lot like the movie game where you say a line and guess

which movie it's from, exept this time it's a line from a book that you

have to guess. 'Cause it might be a little harder to guess just one

sentence from a book, you're allowed up to one paragraph (as long as

it isn't too terribly long), and it can be a paragraph from any part of the

book. Okay, I'll start:

" Lindenfield in the wintertime was a bleak place. The air was chill. For

weeks on end a dog could see her breath all night long, and all day long

as well. Even in early spring, as winter faded, the gardens, tended by

humans in warm weather, were barren and silent. And the lakes and ponds

were gray, and very still. No frogs croaked, no turtles sunned, no shiny fish

twined through the underwater grasses. In warm weather, things would be

different. The air would hum with insect noises, and the ponds might be

quiet, but they were rarely silent. Along their muddy bottoms and on their

banks and in the moss and grasses and fallen logs was a secret animal

neighborhood."

Okay, sorry if that was too long. Please guess what book that was from and

then write a paragraph (or less) from another book.Smile

A Dog's Life?

"In 1815, M. Charles François-Bienvenu Myriel was Bishop of D-----. He was a man of about seventy-five, and had occupied the bishopric of D---- since 1806. Although it in no manner concerns, even in the remotest degree, what we have to relate, it may not be useless, were it only for the sake of exactness in all things, to indicate here the reports and gossip which had arisen on his account from the time of his arrival in the diocese."

Haha, yes, sucker for the classics.

Sorry, I'm pretty clueless here...

If it's any consolation, the book was written in 1862, in French. (hint, hint).

@ TNO--Les Mis?

My turn:

"Rotten slander. I don't blame the piano for getting annoyed. Its curved black rear shuddered. One of its stumpy front legs pawed the grond. Then its lid shut with a clap on A**** F****'* fingers."

Aliza, I know you will probably recognise this, so let the others guess, ok?

*applause* Yes indeed, it's the first paragraph.

I recognised it because once i was in a mini-production of the musical and then had to read the book. I luvs Les Mis!

Then don't--I'm about a year older than you and have read Les Mis a hundred times. Soo, her hint about France immediately clinched it.

Well, you're .75 older than me.

Like my age box says. So, that makes me about 1.25 years older than you.

Er, 1.75, no? I'm 11.25, you're 12.50. Am I right?

No,no, your math isn't right. 12.5-11.25=1.25 Think about it. You do first, 12-11=1, then 0.50-0.25=0.25 Then 1+0.25=1.25 Anyway. Want to be friends? (mental block, as I have said a million times. If you need to know, ask BellaTrix.)

I'll give you all another one to guess at:

"Never had I imagined that a ride in a

gilded coach, carved with dolphins and lined

in blue velvet, could be as bumpy as a ride in

a hay wagon. I was nearly jostled off my

cushioned seat across from Madame not once,

but countless times."
