Ok, this is
Chatterbox: Inkwell
Ok, this is
Ok, this is a lot like the movie game where you say a line and guess
which movie it's from, exept this time it's a line from a book that you
have to guess. 'Cause it might be a little harder to guess just one
sentence from a book, you're allowed up to one paragraph (as long as
it isn't too terribly long), and it can be a paragraph from any part of the
book. Okay, I'll start:
" Lindenfield in the wintertime was a bleak place. The air was chill. For
weeks on end a dog could see her breath all night long, and all day long
as well. Even in early spring, as winter faded, the gardens, tended by
humans in warm weather, were barren and silent. And the lakes and ponds
were gray, and very still. No frogs croaked, no turtles sunned, no shiny fish
twined through the underwater grasses. In warm weather, things would be
different. The air would hum with insect noises, and the ponds might be
quiet, but they were rarely silent. Along their muddy bottoms and on their
banks and in the moss and grasses and fallen logs was a secret animal
neighborhood."
Okay, sorry if that was too long. Please guess what book that was from and
then write a paragraph (or less) from another book.

@ Jenni: Sure, I'm a pretty friendly person. Just don't get in touch with my other offline friends--because they know how insane I really am, and might put you off. *grin* *joke*
If you're twelve and a half, and I'm eleven and one quarter:
12.50

Oh, you were right. *blush* Sorry, math is not my strong point. :)
(April 30, 2009 - 6:54 pm)
Yeah, I'm pretty insane too. /not joke/
Cool, we balance each other out! I'm a whiz at math (says math super-whiz my dad), and you aren't that good, haha! I can help you with math I guess sometimes! I love math............
(April 30, 2009 - 9:04 pm)
Yay! I don't think I've ever before had a friend that was good at math! Congratulations! :)
(All my other friends are wacked out at me, because I kept obsessing over envelopes and wildebeests today. Long story.)
(May 1, 2009 - 2:53 pm)
Uh, thanks, I guess! I'm wacked out at my bff, who is obsessed with ceiling fans, of all things. He has NINETEEN ceiling fans, speaks an unknown (exept to other fan obsessives, that is) language full of Hampton Bays and motors and blade markings. Sadly, I haven't seen him for over a year now. We email each other every day, though!
(May 1, 2009 - 6:00 pm)
Maybe my weirded out friends will appreciate me a bit more when they learn how awesome it is that my obsessions are envelopes and wildebeests instead of ceiling fans.
Your friend sounds cool, Jenni! I think I would probably get along with him well. ;)
(May 2, 2009 - 1:09 pm)
Yeah, me and my mom and dad and Martia are going up to visit them soon (as they live in SC while we live in TN), and I'm hoping I can persuade him to come onto this site. Hold on--I will quote an email from him for you to show your friends to prove that you aren't that weird.
"Okay, so yesterday I picked up a 4bld GEV fan in PB. Very nice fan, but
the cap is blown. It has a K55-type motor, and the flywheel is crumbling. The
bracket is bent, too. It came with an Evergo choke, but the fan has a PC."
Heehee! I dare you to figure that out. He also sent me a transalation, so if you can't figure it out, I'll post the transalation as well.
(May 3, 2009 - 1:04 pm)
This is all very interesting. :):D:):D

Ummmm...??? I understood all the normal words... does that count for anything?
(Your friend sounds AWESOME! :D)
(May 4, 2009 - 4:38 pm)
I shall be merciful and post the transalation, Mary Liz, to spare your suffering. Yeah, he's awesome. He is about two weeks younger than I am, but last time I saw him he was a head taller.
Okay, so yesterday I picked up a
4-blade fan with GE vents (that defines the shape of the vents, GE was the
first to come up with that design) in polished brass. Very nice fan, but it has
a faulty capacitor. It has a stack motor, and the flywheel is crumbling. The
blade bracket is bent, too. It came with a choke-type wall control from an
Evergo fan, but the fan has a pull chain.
Yay!! Now you know some ceiling fan language! Heehee! If he comes on, maybe I can convince him to teach everyone about ceiling fans! (not that he would need persuasion, he would do it anyway)
(May 4, 2009 - 4:53 pm)
Admins, I think I'm on at the same time as you guys! I posted and it came out in TWO MINUTES!!!! OMG!!!! FAST!!!
(May 4, 2009 - 4:57 pm)
Here's one from a book I like.
"The temperature of the room dropped fast. Ice formed on the curtains and crusted thickly around the lights in the ceiling. The glowing filaments in each bulb shrank and dimmed, while the candles that sprang from every available surface like a colony of toadstools had their wicks snuffed out. The darkened room filled with a yellow, choking cloud of brimstone, in which indistinct black shadows writhed and roiled. From far away came the sound of many voices screaming. Pressure was suddenly applied to the door that led to the landing. It bulged inward, the timbers groaning. Footsteps from invisible feet came pattering across the floorboards and invisible mouths whispered wicked things from behind the bed and under the desk."
Who can guess that! It's one of my favorites. It's a quite funny book. It's the very first paragraph. I hope it's not too long, but I think that'll be clueless enough. I didn't think it would be that clueless when I picked the book, though.
Can anybody guess it?
(May 4, 2009 - 5:29 pm)
Yup. I know the book, even if I can't remember the title--"Gate of something or other..." Hang on one second. Ah, here it is: "The Amulet of Samarkand."
(May 5, 2009 - 5:58 pm)
@ Jenni: Definitely try to get your fan friend on here! He sounds extremely awesome. :)
And I now understand SOME ceiling fan language, but I'm still a teensy but confused- for example, what's a capicator?
(May 6, 2009 - 1:00 pm)
I have no idea, probably some type of motor or some such. I'll ask him. Yeah, I'm definetely showing him the site. He will probably teach you more about fans than you wanted to know, though.
(May 6, 2009 - 2:25 pm)
Uh, how did he become interested in ceiling fans??
Just wondering...
