The Gemstone Trials Solo Write

Hi guys! This is my first solo write, and I'm very excited! Okay, so here's the plot:
You live in the bustling, magical city of Almas Jetilmewi. The government here is corrupt, and taxes are nearly killing you. This is a city where there are mythical creatures and thieves around every corner, and any step you take could lead you straight to the cops. Every day is the same: you go to work, stay for hours longer than you ever wanted to, and go home. You are sick and tired of living in poverty, and one day someone in you're family (maybe you!) receives a glowing letter telling them that they have been accepted to one of the worlds most prestigious private schools for magic learners. The problem is, you've never heard of it before. Still, anything could be better than this life! They take the offer. 
 
Rules:
1. No super advanced technology. This is mostly a magical world, and most stuff is run by magic. There may guns and newspapers, but nothing invented after the Revolutionary War.
2. I will allow the rare diary entry, and maybe letters back and forth between your character's friends and/or relatives, but other than that I will be doing the majority of the writing. As a general rule, only post diary entries about once or twice a week. I will find a way to work them into the story.
3. The first ten people to post are the main characters. Anyone else that enters after that will still be written into the story, but only as a background character. 
4. Your character must have a name with a gemstone or type of rock somewhere in it. For example, Ruby Liles, or James Igneous.

Gender:Female

Apperence: Is Chinese! Blue Eyes. Long wavy black hair down to waist. Skinny. Hmmm, nothing else you can create more of it.

Personality: A lot of the time she is dark. You can create rest if you want.

Strengths: I dont know, you can do anything with it.

Weaknesses: Same with stengths.

Weapon: Three Silver Daggers, handle has sapphires on it. (Has strap to carry daggers on right leg)

Letter: Yes, Zen did get the letter.'

Accepted?: Yes, Zen was not that sure about it though.

Backstory: Something VERY dark, you can make it up.

Name: Temuri Emerald

Age: 16

Gender: F(or M, if you're short on males and need some;))

Appearance: Short blond hair, cut in a boy crop. Huge emerald eyes and pale skin. Looks nerdy. XD But isn't-is like the coolest girl at school (can she work as a teacher??)

Personality: Quiet, fierce, brave, sarcastic, seems coldhearted. But if you get to know her well, she's actually very kind and caring. 

Strengths: Strong and very smart, quick reactions.

Weaknesses: Can be quick to anger and sarcastic. Also, has a deep weakness for books...

Weapon of Choice: Brain-or a two handed silver katana from her grandmother. 

Did she get the letter?: No, her sister got it. But she decided she didn't want it, and gave it to Temuri.

Did she accept?: The sister did not. Temuri did.

Backstory: Mostly unknown, but you can make it up. If I have ideas, I'll finish this part later, but for now, I can't think of one. :/ Sorry

Name: Onyx Wildfire Sardothien (typically goes by her middle name, though)
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance: Fiery red, waist length, slightly wavy hair. Usually kept in a single, simple, long braid. Crystal clear, stikingly sharp, icy blue eyes. Average height. 
Personality: You can decide how you want to portray it, but her personality is similar to that of fire.
Strengths: Very perceptive. Resourceful. Hard to sneak up on. Not gullible.
Weaknesses: Doesn't always think things through before she acts. Will do anything to protect those she cares for. Has a sharp tongue, which sometimes gets her into trouble.
Weapon of choice: Daggers. Any kind. She carries with her a set of two daggers, with their handles engraved with a white stag that has a star made from orange opal between its antlers. Also, fire. She loves using flaming arrows, when possible.
Did they get the letter? Yes.
Did they accept? Yes.
Backstory: You can make something up. A very dark, tumultuous past that would explain why she is an ophan.
If they have powers, could mine be Fire?

Age: 13
Gender: Female
Appearance: Short blond hair, bright blue eyes, wears a lot of braided bracelets on her wrists. Tallish.
Personality: Kind of snappy, can be mean sometimes but afterwards will regret it and apologize.
Strengths: Is smart and quick-witted.
Weaknesses: She is not good at running fast, or climbing stuff.
Weapon of choice: Bow and arrows.
Did they get the letter? Yes.
Did they accept? Wait, we have a choice?  Then I'll say yes, anyway. It seems crucial to the plot.
Backstory: She lived with her parents and twin brother in the country, until problems forced them to move to the city. Since then, they have lived in fear of the government .

Appearance:  Short black hair, bluish gray eyes, average height. 

Personality: Serious, brave, a little brash sometimes but not usually mean, untrusting.

Strengths: Weariness, good with swords.

Weaknesses: Untrustful nature, loneliness

Weapon of Choice: Sword

Did they accept: not originally but eventually convinced herself to. So, yes.

Backstory: Was left by her mother when she was ten and on her own since then. You can make the rest up of you'd like to.

Strengths: Being social, is smart, can think on her feet
Weaknesses: Does not remember small details, goofs off, hates being ignored/alone

Backstory: Was born into a family with lots of kids, devoloped a hard-to-miss personality so she wouldn't be left out,
