World Rentals:

This is like TNÖ's idea. You write about a world, describing them, and then allow others to "borrow" them. This one should be stories, worlds, and story commentary. This isn't Character 911. I'll start with a world:

This world is called Fatanameh Guchahbah. The inhabitants are called Jhonoso Tehs. There are 5 continents, but intercontinental travel hasn't been invented, so they haven't spread to more than one, Tehtehmahani. They have a caste system of 4 castes, like in India, with the bottom one not considered a caste, or even Jhonoso Tehs. Their religion is based upon fire worship, and holy fires are present in every temples, where food sacrifices are made. The priests take them, and are supposed to burn them in the fire once everyone's gone, but they just eat them. Magic's existence is up to you. The four castes are:

Vahias: Top level, rich and regarded as infalliable. Wears jewelry, and is totally covered. subgroups as follows:
Vahias Stseirpas: Preists
Vahias Sgnikas: Kings/nobility
Kashantas: Middle level, cannot be 'owned', masters of themselves. Wears no jewelry, but are completely covered. subgroups as follows:
Kashantas Stnahcremas: Merchants, store owners
Kashantas Knomas: Monks, below priests
Benhaah: Low level slaves, do not 'own' themselves, are ordered around by masters, can only be bought and sold. Wears no shirt and no jewelry. subgroups as follows
Benhaah Suogileras: Religous servants, work in temples, cleaning and working at the holy fires
Benhaah Citsemodas: house servants
Erehttonsenoehtas: The very bottom level, not considered a caste, not considered Jhonoso Tehs as discussed above. Wear only a loincloth. They have no home, and are payed by the 'charitable contributions' of the temples. These are only a few cents a day, only enough to buy the worst foods possible. Ordered around in the streets, must do whatever someone tells them to do. Common phrase for ordering them is "Erees (slang/rude term for Erehttonsenoehtas) do my bidding!"

No Mary-Sues, please! We want faulty characters! No Anti-Sues either! We want realistic! Post stories in progress for this world, along with other worlds!

@Mary W., I totally agree :)

@ TNO (umlaut): Ummm...abbreviated? Highly, highly abbreviated? What length are your normal war outlines? Your long ones?

If I really elaborate, and detail some of the bigger battles, explain which battles were fought in which worlds, and extensively describe the Silver King's departure, it can be as long as a short book all on its own.

As I said, Excelsior is from my infodump!story. heh...

Given that Paolini ripped off Lord of the Rings, I'm not sure whether to take this as a mega-compliment (for the Tolkein aspect) or an insult (for the Blue Brick aspect). :) I pride myself on having put rather more thought into it than Paolini did his, though. Plus, Galbatorix (sp?) seems vastly more interesting than whiny little Eragon.

Also Necromancers (no fantasy of mine is complete without it's Necromancers!), which are essentially Magicians who, through years of intense study, have gained control over Dark. Paladins (shamelessly stealing terms from DF? Yup that's meeee) are Magicians who, through years of intense study, have gained control over Light. And yes I'm a big believer in Dark Is Not Evil.

NECROMANCERS?!!!!! EVEN AWESOMER!!! (Everybody go read Sabriel IMMEDIATELY. Or I will eat your brain. Even though I'm technically a vegetarian. I can make an exception for YOU...)

Oh, I totally agree about Paolini's work being very cliched and not particularly interesting. The dragon Saphira was the most annoying part, I thought- she was all stuck-up and wise-acting. What I meant was the extraordinary detail and the names (you know, places that are adorned with umlauts, accent marks, and apostrophes galore). ;)

@ Wizard: If no one else wants it, I might be able to use your platform-world.

Yes, I know, I went way overboard with the apostrophes. You should see the names of some of the characters... *grin*

Am I getting the vibe that many people dislike Paolini? May I ask why?I thought Saphira was definetly interesting, and stuff. I actually like *cannot rember the name so is weakly going to subsitute it with..) the elf.  You could make an entire story out of her history and how she became what she was.

Paolini makes himself very easy to dislike. He's basically admitted that Eragon is a self-insert of his good qualities but none of his flaws. He talks down about JKR. Apparently he "strive[s] for a lyrical beauty somewhere between Tolkien at his best and Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf."

Of course I don't like him. He ripped off Lord of the Rings and then turned around and said he's a better writer than the master of modern fantasy himself. His character's a Gary Stu (don't deny it- good-qualities-only inserts are always Sue/Stus, no exceptions). He thinks he's better than JKR, but his plot wishes it was as complex and well thought out as HP's and his characters are two-dimensional when laid side-by-side with even some of the minor HP characters (Luna Lovegood, anyone?).

He's this arrogant little hack who got published by his daddy at a young age and now he thinks he's god's gift to literature or something. It's like smeyer- just because their books are popular doesn't mean that they're good writers. They both make themselves very easy to dislike.

As soon as I have a little more time, I'm going to put up one of my worlds. It already has three stories attached (one finished, and very looong and definitely a rough draft), but I don't think it would hurt to stick it up here. Umm, TNÖ? (Yay! I figured out how to use the umlaut!) Those were abbreviated? :):):)

Well said. I never really thought of Paolini the man (boy, perhaps, might be a better word), just Paolini's books, which were... drab. No, that's not the right word: they were just dull and cliched... because how many farm boys find magical objects and have their lives changed forever? *begins counting* *is still counting a half hour later*

When I compared TNO (umlaut) to Paolini, what I meant was the level of description and the spelling of names and places, usually including... numerous... apostrophes, accent marks, umlauts, hyphens, etc. Because actually, Paolini is an okay writer, and his description is fantastic, but his plot and characters are sort of... slow. And difficult to trudge through (as in, month-long read interrupted by perusing of various more interesting works). IMO, anyway.

I've now picked up the abbreviation syndrome along with the peer-pressure induced "u" infection. :/

More specifically, he ripped off Lord of the Rings. And he didn't even do a semi-decent rip off, like what happened with Star Wars. Anyway, LotR rip off probably explains his infodumping. Seriously, though, the day people say that LotR ripped off Eragon will be a sad day indeed... It's like when people try to say Anne Rice ripped off Twilight. :\
