Modern Witches RP

Modern Witches RP (with a slightly different plot from my post on CaC)

Alright. So if you read my earlier post about this, I said there was going to be a single antagonist named Smog, whose sworn enemy was witches. I've changed the plot. Instead, the witches will be having a sort of turf war.

There have been two rival witch clans in Chicago for as long as anyone can remember, Kast and Uvete. The Kast are the ones that built the city- their power is linked to it, and they keep it alive. Their powers are more urban or science-y, I guess- they're the ones in charge of things like electricity, the water from Lake Michigan (which is really important for transportation), weather, etc.

The Uvete, on the other hand, are the flowers that pop up in the sidewalk, the music, the art, the culture. They bring the fun into Chicago, while the Kast have their hands full trying to keep it going.

And both clans think they don't need the other side.

So, the plot of this RP is that the clans are fighting over the area around the mouth of the Chicago river. The Kast want to make it into a major port and need it for transportation/shipping, etc. The Uvete want to make it into a sort-of art district, it's right by Navy Pier and they think that its location would be perfect for a center of culture. Also, Chicage kind of started out there, the first settler built his farm in that area and older lands give the witches more power. Our charries have to find away to get along and stop their clans from killing each other. (at the start of the RP, there's no real violence yet, just tensions) Here is the character sheet.

Ok, my charrie just moved to Chicago.

Name:

Age: 12

Gender: Female

Clan: Kast

Power: Intelligence, sort of like Matilda (but not the moving things with her eyes part). She can solve math problems like a calculator and she learns things really quickly.

Weakness: She can't teach things, she just knows them. Also, it bugs her when people make the smalllest grammatical error or mathematical error. Plus, even at KAMTI, there aren't enough advanced classes for her and she is consistently bored.

Strengths: Her powers - she's really good at school. She is also a good dancer and she puts to use her power of learning quickly. She can make new friends pretty quickly.

Flaws: As mentioned above, it bothers her when people make the smallest error. She can be a bit bossy and can lose control of her emotions quickly.

Appearance: She has long blonde hair, sparkly glasses (are those allowed at KAMTI?), and a round face with cute cheeks (the kind that's cute when you're little but not when you're older).

Other: She is a demi-witch. Her mother grew up in Chicago, and met her father on a trip to New York. She grew up in New York, but just moved back here when her parents decided it would be beneficial for her to go to a magical school.

I'm thinking about writing a scene where she gets lost in the school and someone helps her.

I can relate! It REALLY bugs me when people use, for example, double negatives.

Sparkly glasses are fine.

Does anyone know (and can tell me) how to start a new thread on Inkwell? Knowing me it's probably really easy and obvious but I can't figure it out :)

On the Inkwell home page, look for the box near the top left that says: Click here to talk with etc.

KAMTI always seems to be in a rush. You have to push through every door, fight your way to class in the crowded hallway, and leave in a stampede. I manage to grab a seat in the back of one of my classes and sit down, breathing hard. At least I'm used to speed. The teacher strolls in a second before the bell rings, silencing the entire room. I glance at my schedule as he plunges into a lecture on Chicago's founding. History 10-Mr. Byrd. Almost an hour long. I look up again to see Mr. Byrd shuffling a large pile of neatly stacked papers, each crammed with print. All the while talking in that dull monotone. Oh gosh.

By the end of the period, I'm not so sure I can survive the rest of the day, though the subject is really interesting. I think everyone else feels the same. Most are slumped on their desks staring blankly into space. A few are doodling, though it seems all for a strict purpose. The girl next to me is actually designing an entire building. Kasts. Always have to be useful. Another girl up front is absorbed in marking out small flowers on her notebook though. Maybe not. The bell rings but I'm already at the door. I do that sometimes. Unintentionally speed up things. Usually happens when I really want to be somewhere. Well that fits to right now. The next class is a lot more interesting. It's about healing and the teacher seems great. Until she leaves almost immediately. I glance at the guy sitting on my left confusedly. Are teachers usually called out on emergency? He shrugs at my surprise. It's a magic school. Who knows what's going to happen. After that there's a lecture. Controlling your power in everyday life and so on. Important, just not for me. I've never been able to fully control my power, always assumed I didn't need to. Never gets out hand big-time or anything. But the speaker gives good advice and I clap hard at the end, safe in a seat at the very back of the auditorium. And yes, I choose back seats on purpose. I don't know who could possibly recognize me as sometimes hanging around Uvete neighbourhoods, but there's still a chance. I slip out as soon as I can.

I'm a couple feet away from my locker when the sirens start.

"Everyone please report to hallway 2-B. You will receive further instruction there. Immediately to hallway 2-B."

I guess people have practiced this before because everyone starts marching off. I look at my locker. It will take a second.

When I turn around after banging it shut, the hallway is deserted. Surely they couldn't have left that fast. That's the downside to my power. When I don't want to go somewhere (this has got to be another drill) everyone speeds up. Or I slow down. Idk. Anyway, I have to sprint to catch up. 20-D they said? I skid around a turn to find a dead end. Nope. The sirens seem to be getting louder as I run and I might've started worrying right then. What if it isn't a drill? Well then, I'm screwed. Because I'm lost. No use denying reality. I have no idea where I am. Off to the left I see a staircase and hurriedly follow it down. It's got to lead somewhere.

This might not accord exactly with the timeline, but all the posts for different classes and days make it really confusing. Hope this works out!!

Lydia says yeyy. Yay, I'm finally posting.

I'm at school when the sirens go on. My eyes open wide. A few people scream. "Calm down everyone!" shouts a teacher, who is obviously not calm herself. I stand up and do as I've practiced almost every grade of my life. Kneeling against the lockers with my hands covering my head, I scrunch my eyes tightly closed. I can hear other following. A slight flicker of conciousness happens then. Oh no! I think. The tech is shutting off! When all tech shuts off I'm going to pass out! I feel a hand on my shoulder then. I look up to see...

Marshall~

Heart racing, I hurried inside of my apartment building. People started to come down the stairs and into the lobby. We've had tornadoes before, but no one was ever hurt, because the weather witches could always get it under control. I hoped they could do it today.

I finally saw my parents. Everyone began to cover their heads in the standard position, to protect from debris and falling objects. I wondered if the greenhouse would be okay. I wondered if my school would still be standing. I wondered if... wait, I was forgetting something! Cream puff was still outside! There was no way I could go out there now, though. As I knelt against the wall and covered my head, someone sat down beside me. It was...

Charly~

The phone rings. And rings. Please let him be alright. Please, please let Marsh be ok, I think to the universe at large. He’s not answering. Someone taps my shoulder.

“Wha-” I turn, alarmed. It’s Sadie, the other plant witch.

“We’re supposed to be doing our tornado protection thing, and I think you need to put your phone away,” she says, kneeling beside me and putting her hands over her head. I look around the room and see that other people are doing the same thing, except one of the teachers fiddling with the radio. I can hear the wind from here, it’s so loud. This is some tornado.

“Thanks,” I mutter, sticking my phone in my bag and imitating her pose.

“Who were you trying to call, anyway? Your parents?” I feel a sting of guilt. I should have called them. They’ll be so worried.

“N-no. My friend Marsh,” I whisper, hunkering down further as a huge gust of wind makes the building above us creak.

“Oh, I know Marsh! He works in the greenhouse a lot. Was he there today?” We talk about trivial things in our safe, crowded little basement. All around, I can hear similar conversations. What did you have for dinner last night? Did you see the new movie that came out last week? Anything other than the tornado above us.

Suddenly, the radio clicks on, startling me with the deep announcer’s voice in a burst of static saying, “-not a natural storm, it seems, as our weather trackers have picked up some odd magical activity coming from the Kast side of the river. More details coming from Audrey now.”

“Live from Chicago, this is Audrey Rille. We’ve been hearing reports about how a weather witch could have caused this storm, but this has not yet been confirmed. Stay tuned, everyone, and stay inside. Observe all standard safety precautions until further notice. Again, Kast weather witch activities have not been confirmed, but-” more static, and the radio cuts off.

“Crap,” the guy with the radio mutters, and goes back to fussing with the controls. The room promptly erupts into chaos.

“The Kast side?” a boy asks loudly, “What if this is all some sort of Kast strategy to lower our defenses? Maybe they made the tornado to try and destroy the Uvete side! They think the city belongs to them, and them alone!”

“Don’t be silly,” someone reprimands, “the Kast wouldn’t do that! And nobody's going to war or anything, don't be stupid!” The room dissolves into bickering. Would the Kast really try to hurt the Uvete? So far all the aggression we’ve had directed at us has been painting over murals ‘because of vandalism’, and certain Kast stores refusing to sell to Uvetes. But art is one thing, and lives are quite another. The Kast wouldn’t do that to us. Would they?

Ella~

Ugh. My first day at a new school, and there are tornado sirens. Of course, I immediately get lost trying to find my way to the hallway we're supposed to meet up at. Just as I'm about to cry out in frustration, I see another kid.

"Um, hello? Do you know how to get to 2-B?" I ask him.

"Oh! I thought it was 20-D! Yeah, I think it's this way. By the way, my name's Pierre. What's yours?" he says.

"I'm Ella. It's my first day here," I respond.

Pretty soon, he falls behind me. I turn back.

"Sorry. It's my powers," he explains. Luckily, we make it to the meet-up spot without any more problems.

Sorry if I portrayed Pierre incorrectly.

No, it's great!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The stairs lead into another hallway, but this time it isn't empty. A girl with glasses is standing between two doors, looking worried.
"Um, hello? Do you know how to get to 2-B?" she asks, turning to face me.
"Oh! I though it was 20-D." I answer, almost laughing at myself. "And yeah, I'm pretty sure its this way. By the way, I'm Pierre. What's yours?"
She sighs in relief. "I'm Ella, it's my first day here."
"Same," I say, "It's a funny way to start the year, with the tornado and all." The thought of the storm going on right now reminds me why I got lost in the first place. Will the teachers be mad that we couldn't find the hallway? It's not really our fault that we're new.
"Hey," Ella calls, "Are you alright?" With a start, I realize I'm way behind.
"Sorry," I tell her when I catch up. "It's my powers." Silly powers.
"Oh." She looks worried but thoughtful at the same time. I think she always looks thoughtful though. A few more turns and we arrive at Hallway 2-B (I'm still mentally hitting myself in the head for that mistake). I'm too busy focusing on not falling behind to talk, and Ella seems lost in her thoughts.
Now I have to ask you if I represented Ella alright. She's a really cool character.
