Tree Town Story

Tree Town Story

For hundreds of generations, the Mother Tree has stood in the center of the town of Mirileth. It is a gigantic tree--its shaggy trunk is too large for several people to join hands and reach around it. It's tall--so tall, it seems to touch the heavens, stretching its limbs up and out. And its leaves are monstrous, wider than the space between your hands would be if you spread your arms out as far as you could. They are of many colors, making the tree look like a sea of rainbows. Each leaf stands for one life in Mirileth. When a baby is born, a new leaf will sprout and grow. And when a citizen dies, their leaf will fall from the tree's branches and slowly drift to the ground, while the tree weeps tears of sap.

But something is terribly wrong. The tree is sick, and the leaves are falling--and each time a leaf falls, one person dies.

The mayor of the town has called the citizens together, and this day will choose fourteen children--two representatives from each leaf clan--to form a group that will attempt to find the cause of the tree's sickness and reverse it.

~~~
I am, in a way, bringing back this roleplay, which I believe was originally created by Katydid. But this time...it's a story. Not a CB story, a solo write.
The leaves, originally called Nortasun Hostoak, or "personality leaves" by Katydid, are seven different colors, and two CBers can join for each leaf color. The color of your leaf vaguely dictates what you will be like, or what skills you will have.
The Green Leaf~ People with the green leaves are generally skilled at things involving nature.
The Blue Leaf~ Blue-leaf people are generally skilled at things involving water or swimming.
The Red Leaf~ People with red leaves tend to be aggressive or warlike, skilled at the arts of combat.
The Orange Leaf~ People with the orange leaves are usually intellectual, smart, intelligent.
The Yellow Leaf~ Yellow-leaf people tend to be good at understanding people's and animal's feelings.
The Purple Leaf~ Purple-leaf people are skilled at creative things, such as writing, drawing, architecture….
The Pink Leaf~ People with the pink leaf have assorted talents. This leaf is slightly less common that the rest, and its owners can have talents in thievery, (discouraged by the town elders) singing, (encouraged) gardening...really anything.
Note: None of the talents are magical.
Second note: This is set in a medieval-type fantasy world, please make your charries with that in mind.
Character Sheet
Name:
Age: (between the ages of 8 and 18)
Appearance:
Personality:
Leaf color:
What is your character's talent?:
Family members:
Relations to other characters?: (fill this out after other CBers have posted their sheets)
Other:
And let's have some male characters, too! Shipping is allowed. I'm not a romance novelist, but I don't think I'm too bad at it, either. But please note that I won't write gay shipping.
My character.
Name: Hestia
Age: 8
Appearance: Long, wispy blonde hair that's always either loose or up in a bun. She has dark grey eyes and long, curly eyelashes. Hestia is about 3'11", and medium weight. She has a way of smiling at you that will make you feel uneasy for some reason or other, and her emotions have a habit of showing plainly on her face. She wears a lot of knitted dresses.
Personality: Sweet, likes to help people. But she often acts older than she is, as if she was 13 instead of 8. Hestia has a vast knowledge of plants, and carries a satchel full of various herbs with her wherever she goes.
Leaf color: Green
What is your character's talent?: Hestia is talented in healing people, and like I said she knows a lot of plants that she uses to make poultices and medicines.
Family members: She has a mother, a father, and two twin older sisters.
Relations to other characters?:
Other: Hestia as an odd accent, because her parents came from a land far away. But when she was born, the Mother Tree accepted her just like the rest of the tree's "children."
Note: Don't expect me to post a new chapter more than once or twice a week. I'm aiming to take my time with this and do actual, quality writing. Also, I like writing on paper so that will add to the wait.
Yet another note: Each chapter/segment will be from a different character's POV.
I'll make my charrie sheet when I have time and do not have tons of homework. RESERVING!
Name: Willow
Age: 9
Appearance: She is short for her age. She has long, wavy blonde hair and lots of freckles. Her eyes are green and, when she dresses up, she likes to wear green dresses to compliment them. Most of the time she wears casual clothes, though.
Personality: She is shy and only opens up around her closest friends, family, and plants. She likes to talk to some of the plants, too. She tries to solve her own problems to avoid asking the help of others.
Leaf color: green
Talent: She is an amazing gardener and the plants she tends grow the tallest.
Family members: She has a baby brother that she loves caring for, and of course her mother and father. Her grandmother's leaf was one of the ones that fell off the tree due to the sickness, and she is determined to keep other lives from being lost.
Relationships: Can she be friends with Hestia?
Other: Not that I can think of.
Lucy, no, you can't make another character. Only one charrie each. And...sorry, Elementgirl, but technically Kitten posted her character sheet for the green leaf before you reserved a spot.
I'm working on the prologue and first chapter.
(June 8, 2017 - 12:50 pm)
Name: Janna (or just Jan) Handoo
Age: 15
Appearance: Indian, with long dark hair that is often twisted up or braided. Short, with curious dark brown eyes.
Personality: Bright, intelligent, and curious, and generally happy, but can become very intense at times. You really do not want to make her angry. Will become interested in even the simplest things, and loves music. Focused and hard working, good at making people laugh. However she is very stubborn and once one becomes her enemy it will be very hard to convince her to like them again. Has been bullied, horribly, in the past, and it still impacts her, though she tries not to let it show.
Leaf color: Red
What is your character's talent?: Dancing, and fighting, especially martial arts. To quote Shakespeare, "though she be but little, she is fierce!"
Family members: A mother, father, grandfather, two older sisters (17 and 19), one older brother (16), and one younger brother. A lot to live up to, but still a role model for her younger brother, who is nine.
Relations to other characters?: Open to shipping, can also be friends with whoever, boy or girl, but preferably someone closer to her age.
Thanks for posting your sheet, Riddler! I've written the prologue (easy, since it didn't involve any of the CBers' characters) and I will work on typing and revising it. You all should see it soon.
This is the Caretaker. Riddler and Myles, can we have some romance between Robin (yes, I'd prefer it to be Robin instead of Myles) and Janna? Yes, Myles, I know Robin doesn't want a serious relationship and he has a crush on Skye, but Skye's gone and it wouldn't be one of those serious-relationship-things. I have a brainstorm here...I don't want to tell you what it is until you see it, but is the (very vague) idea of romance with both of them acceptable? Because know that I think about it, I really want to write about it. I have a whole bunch of ideas. Buuuuut....don't let me force you into it.
Oh, and don't think that only people of the same leaf color can have relationships, even though both ships I've requested are between people of the same leaf color. AND families are not all of the same leaf color. If you're green, you could have a little brother who's yellow and an older sister who's purple and a grandma who's orange...the "Clans" are just kind of societies...I don't know how to explain it...you do activities and community things with your clan but nothing's exclusive to other people, and most of the things that happen in the town are for all leaf colors anyway...I dunno, you'll see.
This is the first part of the prologue--I was going to post it all, but I'm short on time.
Prologue
In Mirileth, a small town on the edge of the Eastern Sea, the occupants of the town woke in the early hours of the morning to the sound of a little boy running through the streets, wailing.
He looked to be about six, although it was hard to tell in the darkness. He had rumpled brown hair and was barefoot, his feet slapping against the rounded cobblestones of the street. As the boy ran by, windows popped open in the houses lining the street and sleepy-eyed people stuck their heads out to see what the commotion was.
The sun was just beginning to edge over the horizon when the boy stopped at a tall, imposing grey house with an orange sign over the door at the corner of a crossroads. He stood there for a moment, attempting hopelessly to wipe his tears, then reached up and banged his hand on the wooden door. Almost immediately it opened, a tall, elderly man in a nightcap stepping out.
The boy looked up despairingly at him. 'Mr. Heric, sir, it's--it's my sister, she's--she's…" He sniffed and started crying again.
The man lifted him up. "Hm. Carran, is it? I remember you. What's wrong with your sister Jessica?"
The small boy lifted his dirty, tearstained voice and managed one word. "D-dead!"
The old man set him down abruptly, pressing his lips together, then spoke. "Carran, run back to your mother. Tell her I'll be there in two, three minutes."
He watched the brown head disappear down the street as the warm rays of the sun warmed his shoulders. "But it wasn't time for Jessica's leaf to fall," he muttered to himself. "She was perfectly healthy, perfectly fine…." His voice trembled and he fell silent.
