The Wastes Solo Write

First, the elves left. Then, the griffs left. Then, the mice and rats scurried away. Something big was coming.The only ones who remained just before the storm hit were humans, weredragons, sand dwarves, and snake kin. As the storm hit, it tore the city to the ground, swallowing up its inhabitants. 

In the neerby Mud Wall City, news ran like wildfire. There was a wild story that the survivors had built a city underground. Naturally, the people got curious. Soon, a small search party was orginized. They would set out into the sandy wastes to find the City of Sand.

The creatures:

-Humans: intelligent, yet not strong enough to travel into the wastes without a special sand suit.

-Elves: Tough, agile archers, elves are a small minority in the City. They are often hired as assasins and bodyguards. They are tall, and can breathe in sand. They have limited magical abaility.

-Weredragon: A human who was blessed by a magical item becomes a weredragon. They can change into a large yellow dragon at will. The dragon can fly, breathe in sand, and summon sand storms.

-Sand Dwarves: Large insects that are capable of telepathy and controlling sand. They are a green yellow in colour, and have six eyes, making a ring on top of their head. They stand on thir bottom feet, and are about 4-5 feet in height. Extremely advanced magicial ability.

-Snake Kin: These reptiles can grow to 20-50 feet long, and are a rich blue or purple in colour. They are like regualr snakes, except they are capable of summoning arms made out of energy for themselves, as well as communication. They are capable of magic to a fairly advanced degree.

-Griff: These canines are extremely tough. They can bond with only one elf or sand dwarf and protect them to the death. They can telepathicly communicate with their bond. Capable of any magic their bond can.

-Sand Hunter: These smal, black birds will chase down, swarm, and eat anyone with magic. They travel in packs and secrete a glistening oil from their feathers that can cure burns.

Rules:

1) Everyone must be an elf, griff, sand dwarf, or snake kin. Maybe I will let somebody be a were dragon.  

2) Everyone can have 2 characters.  

3) Every griff must bond with somebody other than a griff.

4) Creatures that get magical powers choose any kind of power they want. The downside is that the more powerful the power is, the more sand hunters will track you. 

5) Shipping is allowed, but sand dwarves cannot be shipped.

6) You can choose what your griffs look like as long as it is ind of like a dog.

7) Password is "Dune"

8) THIS STARTS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28! NO LATE ENTRIES! UP TO 15 PEOPLE CAN JOIN.

These are the characters I have, please reply below if you would like to ask to change them/join the solo write. Also, if you want to make changes, please let me know.

1st:

Name- Azrek Sahra

Species- Snake Kin

Age- 30

Appearance- About 30 feet long (a foot a year?), dark purple scales with a thick ring of blue around her neck. She's quite strong, but it's not very noticeable.

Personality- Slightly harsh, very sarcastic. She has trouble making friends, but once she does become friends with someone, she will defend them with her life.  

Magical Powers- She can make small fires with no fuel, but they only last for an hour. If she does have fuel, they will burn according to how much there is. 

Innate Powers- N/A

Weapons- She has a spiked...cuff, I guess? around the tip of her tail, it's good for whacking people with. She also has a curved scimitar, but she can only use it with her arms. 

2nd:

Name: Lithon

Species: Elf

Age: 16

Appearance: Tall, flexible body; strong muscles; dirty blonde hair; olive skin

Personality: Extremely loyal, determined, optimistic, will try his hardest for those close to him 

Magical powers: Can control sand, sorta like a sand dwarf but not as strong

Innate powers: Not sure what this is

Weapon(s): Bow and arrow

(Name: Fiona

Species: Griff

Age: 22

Appearance: looks like a German Shepard 

Personality: Brave, loyal, a bit prideful at times. A natural leader and protector. Is wise and confident, but has her anger bursts at times.

Magical powers: Invisibilty, and a bark kind of noise that when she decides, it can cause destruction.

Innate powers: A sharp sense of hearing and sight and smell. It's really good. 

Weapons: None. I guess her claws and teeth

Name: Lira

Species: Griff

Age: 16 (she bonded with Lithon when they were both 5. I don't know if this works)

Appearance: She is a large Black Lab with an extremely cute nose and a bright pink tongue that likes to wag.

Personality: She loves to play, but responds instantly to Lithon's hand signals. She is very smart and loves to go on adventures and try new things.

Magical Powers: Can breathe in sand and control it a bit

Innate powers: Telepathy with Lithon, strong fighting skills

Weapon(s): Claws, mouth, can use sand as a weapon

3rd:

Name: Rakne "Rose" Tempest

Species (Ask if you want to be a weredragon): Sand Dwarf

Age (15-40 for all species.): 28

Appearance: Yellow/green skin-shell; six golden, swirling eyes forming the crown above her head; a brown waistcoat and khakis custom-made for her insect-like appearance covered with a longer overcoat allowing for easy movement; satchel on the inside of the waistcoat and overcoat for magic items; special interior carrier within the overcoat for her staff

Personality: She is smart and aware of her surroundings, often using magic and her brain in strategic ways. She is hardworking and dedicated, yet lacks any social group. She is an introvert yet keeps an eye on the crowd in a sense of longing. She is kind enough, yet never really interacts with people.

Magical Powers (If any): Gifted with the Earth, able to control both sand and rocks to her will, gifted a tad stronger than most in her race. She for instance could raise a small pile of rocks or sand and throw them, great for fights and escapes.

Innate powers: (You can choose not to have any): Sand controlling and telepathy

Weapon(s): A silver staff engraved with ancient languages of magic, topped with tiny silver twigs and gold leaves from long ago.

Other: Rakne "Rose" is not intensely powerful, only able to move small piles of rocks and not very far or fast. But being a Sand Dwarf, she is extremely talented in magic and therefore is often hunted. She is best at using magic as defense and then escaping, being that she is hunted often. Or even more so - using magic to disguise her presence. 

4th:

Name Ralli "Bait" MartAndrews

Species (Ask if you want to be a weredragon) Sand Dwarf

Age (15-40 for all species.) 23

Appearance Like a normal sand dwarf, has a yellow green exoskeleton. His eyes are a dark green. He has a large scar across his chest. Wears a sort of robe that gives him plenty of room to scuttle on all fours or walk, as well as to fight with magic or a staff.

Personality He has a careless aura about him. He is not really loyal, but he will not desert untill the job is done. He likes getting little tidbits of ancheint magical knowlage, and will travel far to get them. He is a good guy, but he is very boring at times. He is a great guy to go exploring with, but at the party you go to afterward, he will be really boring. A loner who will go along with a group. Is tireless and will always press for the group to keep moving.

Magical Powers (If any) He can creat shields around objects/other people or himself. If he were to surround a rock, for instance, with a sheild, the rock would give off heat if it touched anything. That means he can turn simple objects into dangerous weapons. He also has a gift for telepathy.

Innate powers: (You can choose not to have any) Telepathy and Sand Controlling

Weapon(s): A staff made out of bronze inlaid with poliched desert stones. 

Are they bonded to a griff/character (Depending if they are a griff.) Ivory

Other: Because of his immense power, he always has at least 6 or 7 Magic Hunters following him. He is often attacked quite vicously. And his force feilds do nothing to the Hunters, becuase they have an oil on them that heals burns

Age (15-40 for all species.): 15

Appearance: A meidium sized white labrador retriever. Her eyes are dark brown

Personality: keeps to herself, but loyal and playful with her bond. Protects him at all costs.

Weapon(s): He agility, speed, and strength

Name: Krenton Diggs

Species (Ask if you want to be a weredragon): Weredragon (given permission)

Age (15-40 for all species.): 15

Appearance: A large, powerful yellow dragon when transformed; in human form, shaggy brown hair that naturally creates a gelled look in the front; a cotton white button up shirt; large white goggles; dark blue desert traveler's cloak; long, dark blue gloves to protect from the sun; boater hat underneath; dark blue eyes flecked with silver and gold; a thin, sly smile with a singe canine tooth pointing out on the side; ancient handcrafted sandals; 

Personality: He is somewhat cocky and dominant; a natural leader; his voice enthralls people to listen; smart yet something of a show off; and merciful on most occasions.

Magical Powers (If any): Strong ability to influence others with his voice to do or say anything

Innate powers: (You can choose not to have any): As a dragon can fly, breathe sand, and summon sand storms

Weapon(s): Due to his magic, only a small dagger, although he can also use bows if available

Other: Part of an order of monks and carries a small statue of his religious idol

Species (Ask if you want to be a weredragon): Griff

Age (15-40 for all species.) 15

Appearance Small and yellow, about the size of a cat. Pointy little ears, and a VERY large tongue. Has dull gold spots on the torso. Her tail is skinny, and very long, about 3/4 of a foot. She is 3 feet long, including her tail.

Personality Very much like a cross between a golden retreiver and a cat. She is strange, but very loyal. Goofy. Has a sense of humor, and likes to run and run and run. Very energetic.

Magical Powers (If any) Whatever their bond has. 

Innate powers: (You can choose not to have any) Telepathy with her bond

Weapon(s): She has cute little metal claws she wears on her paws that are capable of scratching any lightly/mediumly armoured foe. The claws are made of a bronze alloy, and look like eagle claws, kind of.

6th:

Name: Kiar

Species: Snake kin

Age (15-40 for all species.): I have no idea how snake ages work. Let's just say...23?

Appearance: A long snake (duh) with scales that aren't completely smooth looking. They pop out slightly, almost like ridges. It's more obvious when he moves. His scales are a color scheme I like to think of as "sunset." He's purple of course because that's what you said they are (or blue) but he has hints of red, orange, and pink. Is that okay? His belly is yellow at the edges but fades into a pale yellowish white. He has the kind of snake eyes with a tiny pupil that's pretty much a line, and his eyes are greenish blackish looking. Ordinary looking eyes which is ironic considering his powers.

Personality: He has a flair for the dramatic, as you will probably be able to tell by his weapons. He'll be dramatic with a serious expression though, and only a hint of his amusement in his eyes. He thinks it makes him seem powerful. Often it does, except to those who have known him for a while--they just know he's a drama queen. He will socialize freely if he wishes, but not in a super casual and joking way. I wouldn't call him a thrill-seeker, but he does things for the honor, adventure, or just in general the feel he gets from it. If thrill is that feel then so be it. He wishes to be in a respected position, but does not try hard to be very high up. Like I said, it's more for the sake of doing stuff. He doesn't have a deep connection to the City of Sand--his family or clan or whatever has always lived around or in Mud Wall City. But he was quite content with going on the expedition.

He doesn't have a curious nature (as in being curious), unless he thinks there's an opportunity for him to do something. Example: someone: "We heard strange noises in the distance. Are they a threat?" he thinks: We should check it out. Maybe there's fighting. Maybe I can fight! Yes, this sounds very interesting indeed. Example number two: "Wow, there's an abandoned temple with strange symbols and humming from it. I heard it carries the secrets of generations of the past." And he wouldn't be curious. 

Magical Powers: Manipulating light in ways it's not supposed to be manipulated according to like, science. He shoots the light from his eyes, and once it's out, he can throw it out, move it, even shape it.

Uses- He often uses it to make himself look cool, like surrounding himself in light or doing crazy light tricks. Practical wise, it's good to blind enemies when fighting, or create distractions, 

Limitations- He can't change the color or change it into a physical object. It doesn't have a feeling or temperature. It's just light. He can't move light super far distances. He can't manipulate light that already exists, like a lamp for example. Just his.

Innate powers: Breathing sand. But you can take that way if you want, and make it more like he can hold his breath in sand for a long time.

Weapon(s): Remember how I mentioned his scales weren't completely smooth? He can make them pop out a lot so they're basically spikes. His second weapon: When he fights with his arms, he uses two long, ribbon-like strips of metal in the sense that they're flexible and can be twirled around. But they're extremely sharp. They have hilts like swords, so he can hold them without getting cut.

Other: He has heightened snake abilties, so really good echolocation and sensing when he uses his tongue. He finds melodic music annoying, but likes purely rhythmic music, like drumming for example. 

He values skilled fighting above any other skills of his. Not only does he like to fight, but he likes flairs and tricks and jawdropping moves. He likes fighting for the excitement and chance to show off, not anything bloodthirsty. Magic comes second to fighting I guess, but it's so second-nature to him that he doesn't try to hone it. He's intelligent of course, but he doesn't see gathering knowledge as something that's very important. As long as he knows enough to be able to do what he wants, then he's good.

So, if you are not on the list or I got something wrong, please tell me. That said, I am going to continue, so please be willing to accept any mistakes I make.

Also, just for laughts, I am going to restart the story, becuase I have not clue what I was planning before anymore, so it will be easier for all of us if I just start over. Is that OK?

Here's the character we worked on Gared!

Name: Yohar Rhodine

Species: Weredragon

Age (15-40 for all species.): 27

Appearance: tall, smooth pale skin, black eyes, long straight black hair. Dragon form: all black except for her eyes which are a deep purple. A long, lizard like form with smallish wings. Shimmery black scales. Spikes all along spine. Long talons.  

Personality: dark and mysterious. Intelligent. Scorns other people who aren't as intelligent as her. Brave. Prefers her dragon form, so no one knows she has a human form at first. Says things in as little words as possible. Is not sociable. Surrounds herself with magic and doesn't have time for relationships. Is very lonely, although she doesn't know it. Is a fierce fighter. Very agile.

Magical Powers: blending into shadows, controlling shadows

Innate powers: flying, breathing in sand, summoning sand storms.

Weapon(s): her spikes and claws in dragon form, two daggers strapped to her legs in human form.

Since Gared has left, he has asked Ashlee, St, and I to post the story for him because we are still in contact with him. THIS IS LEGITIMATE. Don't worry! Here is the first part: 

 

Part One: The hazy dawn's heat was cut by the waterfall's mist. A group had gathered around the lush greens and browns of the Governor's garden. A casual observer would say the party were here for some speech of congratulation. But a trained eye would tell you that this was an exploration. And exploration into the sandy dunes of the Sahara desert, which lay only a few feet away from the glass of the greenhouse.  

"We 'ere a' the gove-rnment were wishin' to tell ye tha' you done a favor, a favor t' the King, and th' Empire."  A man in a white military jacket and well-ironed trousers said.  

"Cool it Colonel, we don’t need your insane ramblings here." A woman's voice replies from behind a clump of ferns. 

A massive snake slithers out, and winds around a oak tree.  

The green and brown of her scales glint dangerously.  

"Get in, get out, claim it for the Empire. Got it?" She says again, whipping her tail against the smooth cobbles of the ground. 

The camels began to impatiently pace as the speech continued, and a griff whined. Azrek climbed higher in a tree. Generally, everybody became more relaxed, which made them jump even higher when- 

"WHOOOOSH!!!!" Went something.  

SkyRays. Kiar glared. "Should've stayed in the ocean where they belonged." He muttered darkly.  

The massive black and white wings of the manta ray flapped high in the sky, as barbarians on them threw small rocks down at the town.  

Anti-Aircraft mages took up positions, and bolts of blue streaked into the sky. Bait raised his staff to the sky, muttered something, and a blue wave of sand peppered the rays. They flew off, sending their riders plummeting.
