MY FIRST RP!

Chatterbox: Inkwell

MY FIRST RP!

MY FIRST RP!

I've only been at Ivemara Academy for five minutes, and I've already learned something:
I'm gonna hate it here.

It's the absolute worst. The place looks like it's been here since the Stone Age. And so does the headmistress, Ms. Stowell. Her smile's just as tight as the bun on the back of her head. I still can't believe that my mom's making me spend the rest of my school years here. But don't you think that it ends there, because you haven't heard about the uniforms yet. Ugh, the uniforms. Where do I begin? Well, let's go from bottom to top. The shoes are black Mary Janes. Mary Janes were popular in the 1960s. We have to wear white leggings with a maroon and grey plaid skirt, and a red polo shirt with the Ivemara crest on the top right corner. Hideous. And itchy too. We were expected to arrive in our uniforms, and I've spent the last few hours in it. I'm going to hate having to practically live in it. Those are just a few reasons why i'm going to hate it at Ivemara Academy For The Magically Gifted.

...

Okay then! Now that that's out of the way, on to the details! So basically we're all students at thr Ivemara Academy For The Magically Gifted, and we've been sent here becausewe need to learn to control our powers.

Mara~

Mara heard the boy flirting with Elle as she walked towards the place where she'd get her dorm room number, giggling a little bit at her friend from out of earshot. It was foolish, but a little part of her still hoped she'd get to room with Elle. If anything, at least have a few classes with her.

She opened the door, not noticing the woman at the desk until she said, "I suppose you're here for your dorm number?"

Mara nodded, smiling. "Yes, ma'am." The woman's face didn't change as she sifted through papers, finally finding a key and a number. "Here you are."

She grinned, trying not to let the unnerving gaze of the woman get to her. "Thank you!"

As she walked out, she glanced at the paper- Dorm 6110, it said. She had no clue where to go. Making her way back toward the group, she saw a short boy being whisked around by the one who was flirting with Elle. She passed them by. Finally, after what seemed an eternity later, she found Dorm 6110, unlocked the door, and collapsed on the bottom bunk.

Rolling over and off the bed, Mara started to unpack her bag. As she worked, she slipped into a daydream, singing quietly. As she stuffed a pair of socks into a drawer, she heard something say "She has a pretty voice."

Mara turned, reognizing that it was a mouse. She laughed and then repeated in it's language, "Thank you!"

She heard a frightened squeak. "Wait, I'm not going to hurt you!" She waited, crouching on the floor by her bed. After a few seconds, two little grey mice timidly stepped out from under the bed.

"How can you talk to us?" One of the mice, with a knick in it's tail, asked. Mara smiled. "Well, this is a magic acadamy, isn't it?"

They took a few steps closer. "I never thought I'd ever get to talk to a human!" The second mouse said. Mara noticed that she was lighter that the other. She smiled. "Are you guys hungry?"

With that, she pulled out a granola bar she'd forgotten to eat on the way, continuing to talk to the mice. It wasn't for a while that she noticed her roomate standing in the doorway.

Asani ~

Warmth
and light beginning to creep up my shoulder arouses me from a deep sleep. I
awaken easily, the sun calling me to my feet. I grab for a brush on my bedside
table. It isn’t there, so I head into the bathroom and find it on the counter.
I run it through my stiff hair, reveling in the soothing feeling of the brush
on my neck. I look into the mirror, at my firey red hair, at my smile. It’s
going to be a good day. I can just feel it.

** *** **

The
car comes to a stop as asphalt turns to grass.
I slide across the back seat and open the car door. Mum and dad come
around to the trunk, too. Dad lifts it open and grabs one of the duffel bags; I
grab the other.

“Thanks,
Dad,” I say.

“This
thing ways a hundred pounds! How’re you gonna carry both of these?!” he
exasperates, slight smiling.

“Oh,
Aza, I can’t believe it! You’re going to Ivemara
Acadamey!
My little flame, all grown up!” Mum’s radiating light all around
her; her smile so sunny, her hair as golden as the dawn.  Even her accent is blindingly bright.

“Dad,
I’ll be fine.” I take the second duffel bag and hoist them both over my
shoulders. “Mum, I’ll be fine. Really, I’ll be fine.”

After
a moment, I hug my mum and stand on tiptoes to hug my dad.

“I
love you guys. I’ll miss you. But trust me, I’m going to have so much fun!”

“I
know,” my dad says.

“I’ll
miss you,” says mum.

“I
love you! I’ll miss you, too. Bye!” I reply with a wave, and I begin to head
toward the white gates open wide, filled with bustling bodies.

“Bye,
Asani!!” they both wave at me as I walk off.

I
walk through the gates, passing by all sorts of different people. I see a few
girls in a cluster giggling as some white-haired dude walks over.

Girls. Is every weirdo a love interest to
them?

I
walk past and find a middle-aged woman with a neat brown bun operating what
looks like a ticket booth.

“Excuse
me, how do I find out which room I’ve been assigned?” I ask the lady.

“Just
give me your name,” she replies, “and I’ll give you your number and key.”

“Oh,
okay,” I say. “Lerula. Asani Lerula.”

“Great!”
she answers. “Your room number is on this slip of paper here, and here is your
key.”

“Thanks,”
I reply. I glance down at the small, white slip of paper. “10698,” it reads. I
flip it over. On the other side, it says “Roserea Lodging – Level 5.”

I
notice that there is a big plastic bin hanging off the ticket booth filled with
maps. I take one, and in a matter of minutes, I have found my way into Roserea
Lodging and up the elevator.

“Ding!”

The
elevator halts, steadying itself. The doors then open, and I walk out into the
hallway, along with a couple other people out of the mass that filled the
elevator. I walk down the row of doors… 10690, 10691, 10692… and stop in front
of 10698. I smile, breathing in. New school, new friends, new life… a room all
to myself… somewhere with people who know how to teach me about fire, not sun,
not light, not boring human academics, but fire. I take out my bronze-colored
key and turn the knob, pushing the door open.

I
start. A spark pops at my fingertips. There is another girl in my room.

Before
I have any time to think about what she is doing in my room, she screams. I
caught the corner of a bed on fire.

My
first thought is, Oh gosh. What a great
way to start my new life,
before I am smothered in water. I fall to the ground.

“Oh
my gosh, are you OK?” the blonde girl asks frantically.

I immediately know what her magical
ability is. I can see it dripping from her fingertips.

“Uhh,
yeah. Um, may I ask, why are you in my room?” I say, a bit irritably. I hate
being covered in water.

“Oh!
You didn’t know? Sweetheart, I’m
you’re roommate!” she bubbles.

Yippee. I think again. What a great way to start my new life.

Sorry, you guys, my writing has been a little rustly lately. And Allie, sorry if I controlled your character too much. You can fix that part if you don't like it.

I walk out of the closet to see the corner of a bed on fire. I scream and hold out my hand as water comes out of my fingertips. I have horrible aim, though, and end up not only extinguishing the flame, but getting my roomate wet. I cringe, and think, What a way to make a first impression. But then I realize that the girl that I'll be spending the next few months with is soaked because of me. "Oh my gosh, are you okay?!" I ask. "Uhh, yeah. Um, may I ask, why are you in my room?" she asks me, sounding annoyed. "Oh! You didn't know? Sweetheart, I'm your roomate!" I say. "What? I thought we got rooms all to ourselves!" she said. "No, we have to share. My name's Imogene Dallas, and as you can see, I control water." "Yep. I'm Asani Lerula, and I control fire." Water and fire. Complete opposites. Why, of all the people, did I have to get matched up with her? I've already made a horrible impression, so I decide to try and make amends. I will have to spend the next few yeas of my life with her, anyways. "I'm really sorry about that. I don't really have the best aim." I say. "Do you want to get lunch or something?" "No, I have to unpack. You can go, though." Asani said crisply. "See you later." "See you."

Keiran-

Your glasses.

Keiran mechanically followed the procession, running a hand through his hair. People turned to look at him; he stared ahead, distant. Distantly he heard girls chittering, whispers about him.

He was glad his hands were in his pockets. They were shaking.

Your mother died in childbirth, Keiran.

Was she sick?

No. She died when you opened your eyes.

Keiran smiled at a girl as she passed. She laughed and waved. They would be his friends. The girls would give him status. He needed that. Needed fame and glory. Needed their respect, his father’s.

They won’t like me, Dad.

You’re just trying to get out of-

Keiran cleared his head and continued walking. Carefully, subtly, he reached under his lenses and touched a hand to his eyes.

If one could even call them eyes.

The room he entered was medieval, and just the way he liked it: full of room for decorating. He spread a galaxy-patterened blanket over his cot and stretched, rolling his neck.

”Hello.”

Keiran turned on one heel and spread his arms. “Welcome to casa Astrix.”

It was that “Asher” boy, standing in the doorway with a scowl on his face. Keiran looked him up and down.

”It’s my room, too.” The boy said. Keiran huffed and folded his arms. This boy was being very uncooperative, converstaionally.

”I like the outfit.” Keiran said. “Very dark. Reminds me of space.”

”Okay, I have to ask. What’s the deal with space?”

Keiran smiled at the question. “I make little energy-stars. Also little wormholes, but those are just for storage.”

Asher nodded. “I think I see why we’re rooming together. I control dark matter.”

Keiran smiled. “Neat. Sounds useful.”

Asher shrugged. He strode over to his side of the room as Keiran began to unpack and-

“Ow!” Keiran swore as his hand scratched on a jagged piece of metal, poking out of the wall of the room. It looked as though someone had shoved a razor in between the rocks. Keiran felt quick tears blur his vision.

”Are... you alright?” Asher asked, confused.

”Yeah. Fine.”

Keiran wiped under his eyes and withdrew his hand. Asher sucked in a breath.

His tears were pitch black, with speckles of silver like stars scattered about. Keiran quickly flicked it away.

”We’d better head to the dining hall. It’s almost time to eat,” Keiran said.

Elle~

I finish unpacking and flump on my bed, exhausted. I guess I should go visit Asher soon.

“So, um, anyone else you know here?” Erin asks.

“My brother, Mara, a few girls, Kieran, now you,” I smile back. “Who do you know here?”

“You. And the guy with the white hair.”

I nod, laughing slightly. “That’s Kieran.”

She snorts and goes back to unpacking.

“I’m going to go see my brother real quick, I’ll hopefully be back though. If not, I’ll meet you when going to the cafeteria,” I announce.

She smiles. “Sure. See you soon.”

I quickly wave and walk down the hall to 6279. Funny. None of the numbers are in any sequence, they’re all just super random.

I lightly tap on it, and Asher opens the door with the most anti social face he’s ever made before.

I lightly laugh. “Relax, it’s just me.”

He opens the door wider for me to come in, and I can see Kieran lying on his bed, bouncing and catching a ball against the wall. Eventually the ball disappears into a small black hole and reappears in another black hole above his face.

“Could you stop that?” Asher exclaims. “The noise is going to make me implode the ball. Don’t think I’m joking.”

Kieran rolls his eyes.  “C’mon, now that she’s here, can we go eat?”

Ash shrugs and starts walking out the door. I follow suite, with Kieran on my tail.

“So what can you do?” Kieran asks.

I ignore his question when I see Mara and her roommate. I greet them both with a smile, and we all head down to the cafe in a group. Erin joins us too, and gets aquatinted with my brother. I can tell he’s trying to be a bit more social than usual, although his attempts are small.

“You didn’t answer my question,” Key declares, nudging my shoulder to get my attention.

“You’ll find out soon,” I reply.

“No, just tell me now,” he says. “Why keep it so secretive? Is it dangerous?”

“Depends,” I reply. “It only affects the people I want it to effect, unless it’s large and off-scale, then it will affect everyone.”

“What is it?” he asks.

I groan at his pestering and we stop walking for a moment. I create a simple transparent bubble with a blue tint in front of us, and he smirks as he uses his finger to push it towards me. As soon as I touch the bubble, it turns into shards of glass that rush straight for Key, although it won’t harm him.

“Looks like you had an illusion,” I say. “Maybe you should see the school nurse.”

“Oh okay.”

I laugh as we continue to walk and eventually reach the cafeteria.

Sariel stared at the girl crouched in front of her, who she assumed was able to understand mice and... talk to mice. While definitely not the strangest thing she has seen, it still unnerved her.

"What are they saying?" Sariel said the first thing that came to mind. In response, she quickly got up, smiling sheepishly.

"Oh! Hi, sorry, uh... I was just..." The girl looked down in embarrassment. "I'm able to speak to mice. Or, actually, I can speak any language."

"Cool," Sariel looked back at the mice, but they had already left in fear. "I'm Sariel."

"Oh, I'm Samara, but please just call me Mara," She sat back on the bed, looking a bit more relaxed. "If you don't mind me asking, what your power?"

"Memories," Mara gave her a look, as if wanting elaboration, but none was given. "Anyways, It's almost lunchtime, let's get some food."

"Uh, okay!" They walked through the wooden door and into the hallway. Both remained quiet and a bit awkward.

"Elle!" Samara raced down the hallway to greet who she assumed is her friend. She then noticed the girl next to her. "And this is...?"

"I'm Erin," The girl crossed her arms a bit, staring at Sariel and Mara surly.

"Who're you?" Sariel turned her attention to one of the boys in the group. He looked startled by the question and started to mumble his response.

"He's Asher, my brother," Elle laughed exasperatedly. Sariel nodded and gave a short glance at the other boy, Key. She curtly nodded at him and tried to make sure that would be the most conversation they would have this afternoon.

@Pink Panther, I think you kinda hinted at a possible ship for Erin and Asher in one of your posts. Whaddaya think? I think it could be really funny because they're such opposites.

Erin~

The other students seem nice. I think the guy called Asher looked at me a little longer than normal.... Eh, probably nothing. It looks like I got lucky on a roommate, Elle is really nice. I've never had a friend before, but she makes me feel like I belong. Belonging. It feels new. And different. But the best different I've ever felt.

Back home... (Well, was it ever really home?) Back at my old house, no one... cared.

Mum and Dad... my foster mum and dad, were nice enough, but there was never any real warmth. They were good to me... as long as I didn't make any "scenes" with my powers, or stay out late with friends... not that I had any, of course.

To be honest, I didn't really go out of the house much, except to run. Running always makes me feel better, especially in late fall and winter, when the cold air whisking sharply through your lungs makes you feel so alive, so exhilarated, expecially at night with the full winter moon glowing silver-white overhead....

"So what's your power, Erin?" Asher asks. I jump. "Oh, uh, snow, ice, frost... that stuff." I mumble, my face warming slightly. Why am I so terrible with social stuff? "Cool." he returns. "Um... thanks." I mutter back, still struggling to act like a NORMAL HUMAN BEING IN A SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT. Argh!

"If you don't mind, could we see?" Sariel asks curiously. "Oh, sure." I say quietly, embarrassed. I stretch out my fingers, concentrating, thinking of frosty winter nights, running through the snow... a curl of frosty wind and snowflakes with a few tiny ice crystals swirls up from my palm, and I whisk it around in a quick swirl before flicking it away to melt somewhere.

"Cool." Asher compliments. "Thanks." I mumble surlily. Somehow, no one else seems to mind my terrible, awkward, social skills. And it's making me feel way better than I have for years, even.~

Now I'm feeling warm and fuzzy... I love shy, surly, orphan-type characters so much... Azkiel says pfyw. Poofy you? No thanks, you crazy fox... *WNGD FOXX.* Fine. You crazy WINGED FOX. Happy? *Yess. *smirks.*

@Aspen, I’m gonna sound like a real jerk, but I didn’t mean to hint anything. I’m so sorry. Like I explained to Brookeira, Asher is sociopathic and usually unable to have crushes. I might change it later on, but I still have to see...what if your charrie had a crush on him, but he turned her down, explaining his situation, and they end up being good friends? Just some side drama, and it might make for good dialogue.

~~~~~~~~
Asher~
As we sit at the tables, eating some good old school food, I use a bit of matter to push down a strand of Elle’s hair that was waving around from her perfect French braid that was really bothering my OCD side.
She side glances at me before going back to talk to Mara. Elle always had Mara over at the house all the time, and I didn’t mind her that much. She also got to know me, and I guess I could consider her my friend.
“I saw that,” Kieran whispers.
I roll my eyes. “That wasn’t bothering anyone else?”
Kieran lets out a hearty laugh, catching the glances of others.
“Pipe down, will ya?” I hiss.
“You know Ash,” he starts. “You’re a real funny guy. Ever since I met you, you can’t help the sarcasm escape your antisocial lips.”
I smirk. “I also can’t help the dark matter escape from my fingertips, so I would shut up if I were you.”
Kieran pauses and then laughs again, and I can’t help but let a genuine smile escape. Maybe this dude isn’t so bad after all.
“Attention students,” an official says from the indoor balcony in the cafe. “After this is an hour or two of a free period before we proceed for outdoor activities. Please enjoy the rest of your lunch before the free period, and make sure to use that period wisely.”
“Jaxon, our older brother, said that today’s easy because it’s all of our first times here. Usually the real classes start tomorrow,” Elle announces to the rest of us.
Key nods. “I didn’t know you guys had an older brother.”
“Yep,” I say sharply. While Key raises an eyebrow, Elle and Mara and all them go back to talking in their own groups.
“What was that?” Key asks.
“Nothing,” I reply. “He’s just the person Elle and I were supposed to look up to. But he isn’t as great as everyone thinks he is.”
“What are his powers?”
“Super speed,” I reply. “A hot shot, really. I got the darker and more ‘put this person in quarantine’ side of the family.”
“How bout Elle?” he asks.
I glance sideways, but she’s preoccupied.
“Don’t tell anyone, as only me, you, Mara, and her will know at this point. She’s adopted.”
Key’s eyes widen, before he shrugs. “You guys didn’t look alike anyway. But still, how’d your family adopt another person with...abilities?”
“My dad was one of us too,” I reply. “He knew about a girl making a ruckus at an orphanage. Before he made the move to adopt her, she had already terrorised half of the people there.” I laugh. “Wasn’t her fault. Her excuse was that people were ‘seeing things.’ That’s when we knew what her powers were.”
“Yeah, she showed me,” he replies.
I nod. “That’s Elle. So you’re the black hole space guy huh? When I first saw you, you looked like you came straight out of a Star Wars cantina.”
He laughs. “I suppose that’s me. Although I think we’re all discovering more and more about our powers each day.”
I give him a side smile. “Perhaps.”
Suddenly another guy, significantly shorter than Kieran and I, walks up to us and sits right next to Kieran. I peer at him curiously, and Key greets him.
“Hi. Russel,” the guys says, holding out his hand after noticing me.
“Asher,” I reply, hesitantly shaking his hand.
“I’m sick and tired of those idiots over there!” Russel exclaims, continuing his conversation with Key. “Can I just sit here?”
“Sure,” Key shrugs. “Join the crew, and anyone else that’s sick of that side can too. We don’t mind, do we Ash?”
I grimace slightly but nod. More people. Just when I thought I had my people overload for a day.
I'm sorry if I controlled anyone's character too much.
Russell~
Russell had two options- continue to sit sandwiched between a group of incredibly immature ten year old boys and a table of gossipy teens, or move to the table where Keiran was sitting. It wasn't that hard to choose. If he had heard another toilet joke, or a single word about how ugly some girl's nail polish was, he thought he would've screamed.
Beside Keiran, there was a boy with dark hair that introduced himself as Asher. "Can I just sit here?" Russell asked. "Sure, join the crew, and anyone else that's sick of that side, too. We don't mind, do we, Ash?"
The boy nodded. Russell smirked. "Thank goodness." He paused to eat a bite of mac and cheese. "So, I'm guessing you've got galaxy powers or something?" Russell gestured to Key's nebulae sunglasses.
"Energy stars, wormholes... you got it." Keiran replied.
Russell shovelled another bite into his mouth, then, without stopping to chew the whole thing, said, "And I'm gonna take a wild guess... judging from your clothes and your attitude... dark matter?"
Asher scoffed. "Yeah, and what is your power? Shrinking in size? Oh wait, you can't get any smaller."
Russell pretended to be offended, then laughed. "Good one, man." He noticed some other kids sitting down at the table, a girl with fiery red hair, and another with wide blue eyes. "Really though, I can teleport. The only problem is that I sometimes end up on the roof when I sneeze..."
They continued to talk until they finished eating. By that time the table was full of a lot of people who seemed didn't fit in with the other crowds. Russell noticed Asher looking a little uncomfortable, and honestly, he was starting to feel claustrophobic. "Hey, do you guys want to get out of here? Lunch isn't over yet." Russell asked. "I'm sure there's plently to explore in a castle this size..."
So... if y'all want our charries to all meet, and this thing had an underlying Hogwarts vibe to it, what if there was a beginning of the year banquet like in Harry Potter that they have every year? Everybody wouldn't quite meet everybody , but it could be a start.
