My first Round

My first Round

My first Round Robin!!!! I've participated in enough that I thought I might start one at long last. So,...

Christie sat down to a bowl of steaming hot carrot soup. Trina the cook was telling her regular lunchtime story. She listened, sipping daintily like her mistress Princess Kitty. “And in the midsummer’s eve moonlight danced the fairies, in circles. Their wings were made of silver and spiderwebs and dewdrops. And they sang and played silver flutes, and their music was haunting and sweet and pure and enchanting and wonderful. Then the girl looked and saw her lover was dancing with them. And she called his name, but he did not hear her, mesmerized as he was by the enchantment. And when the fairies left, he was gone with them. She went home to tell her parents, but they thought her mad. They were sorry, though, when they found her run away. Perhaps,” she said, “She tried to find him. But that was two hundred years ago.”

“You believe in fairies, then?” a small boy asked.

“Of course I do, child!” answered Trina. “But they don’t reveal themselves much anymore, oh my, no.” She paused, lowering her voice to a whisper. Christie leaned in to hear better. “They say, though, they say, that where you and I have black spots in our eyes, the fairies have only bright shining light.” She looked around and bustled off to refill a bowl.

Christie stirred her soup. She had never known anyone else who actually believed in fairies before. A thought came to her. “Mrs. Trina,” she called, “Where do fairies live?”

“No one knows child, but they say it is completely inaccessible to humans. The only story about its location is that it is somewhere in the Great Forest, and protected on one side by the Misty Marsh.”

"Well, Kitaria Lilletiera bon Trichvard, I was banished for talkin' with humans, a horrid crime in that stuffy Fairydom. I'm glad I was banished." said the fairy. Kitty looked at his eyes. They told a different story than his mouth. Inside the deep green depths, she could see pools of sadness.

"What is your name, Fairy?" said Kitty hautily.

"My name is Jon Kittian. Kit-eye in. That's how ya' say it.

"Well John-"

"Johnny."

"John. What is your buisness here?"

"Well, I'm here to fing you!"

"Me?"

"Yes, you. You, the half-fairy child of Lisel and Peter."

Kitty snorted. "Do I look like a fairy to you?" This was utter nonsense. She knew it now. "My parent's names are Margeta and Theisel. I shall call the guards." Just then, the doorknob rattled, and a familiar nasal voice could be heard. "I don't need showing my room. I get the same one every time! Off with you!" Kitty looked wildly around the room for a place to hide. The bed was low. The closet? The Duchess would be unpacking her things. No windows. The servant's entrance... perhaps...

"John!" Kitty gasped. "Hurry! We have to go back through the portal-thingy!" She twisted the knob of the closet to reveal only a wood-paneled opening.

"Not there anymore," said John with a crooked look. "They don't want me back- they closed the Portal."

"But the Duchess!" exclaimed Kitty. "She's coming!"

John shugged. "Give her my congratulations on that mighty feat."

"You don't get it!" protested Kittty. "I'm not supposed to be here!"

John shrugged again. "All right, buut don't scream again." He grabbed her hand tightly and Kitty drew in her breath as she saw herself disappear.

The door opened and in walked the duchess. She was shaped lake a pear, big on the bottom, small on the top, and her face held a grimace. She looked around, found everything horrible, and left to proclaim her distaste to the maids. How dare they put a blue quilt on her bed, when she only accepted paisly, and the pillow was 5 centimeters too large, and it was stuffed with goose feathers, not bluebird  feathers. And it smelled of books. She HATED that smell.

Kitty was amazed, how did the duchess not notice her. The fairy boy was smiling. "wow, the waay you turned invisible was great, you must of had a lot of practice" Kitty remembered that when she was in trouble no one seemed to be able to find her. She always thought that was because of her hiding skills...

"I didn't turn invisable!" protested Kitty

"Then why did you suddenly turn clear and no one could see you? Your a Fairy!"

"I am not!! I don't have wings! Ha!"

"Your half-fairy!"

"AM NOT!"

"ARE TO!"

"AM NOT!"

"ARE TO!"

They were so busy arguing, they didn't hear the taps of the Duchess' paisly shoes. Suddenly, they heard a scream. Thier heads snapped! The Duchess was lying on the floor! She had come in to see Mistress Kitty and a fairy arguing! That didn't sit well with her. She was easily shocked....So, she fainted.

((Have fun at camp!

Oh, by the way- got the new Cricket today and no, that Mary W. was not me. Thankfully. I was afraid I might have mailed a letter in and had a memory lapse... ;)

All right... memory lapse...))

"I'll have to wipe her memory." John looked a bit worried. "But that's powerful magic... as a banished fairy, I could end up as unconscious as her if I try."

"And?" Kitty didn't see how this was her problem- but then she was in a particularly mulish mood.

"I'll need your help." John stared at her earnestly.

"You certainly do need help..." muttered Kitty. He was mentally ill.

"Stop it," said John, a bit lamely. "Here, hold my hand."

Kitty stared at him. "That's not happening."

John looked desperate. "She's stirring! In the name of the Fae, Kitty-"

" Oh, bah! I am not doing that. Look, this Lady does not remember things she does not want to remember. Like my name. Or the fact that my mother is a vegetarian and taking her out on a meat tasting party is a bad idea. I mean, she could not remember the alphabet for crying out loud. On the other hand she remembers all conversations with my father, the birthdays of her 27 kitties and their names and what they like to eat, and what coler she wore yesterday. The duchess will not remember this simply because an ugly fairy boy is an unpleasant memory, and because she never remembers anything that has to do with me."

"Hey" Called the fairy " I'm not ugly!"

" Believe what you want to believe" Said kitty as she skipped out of the room. "Follow me!"

John unwittingly followed

What they did not know is that the duchess remembered. The duchess had a habit of remembering things that she could get other peoplein trouble for. Call it a reflex if you will.

"What are you muttering about?" John asked as he followed Kitty with ease, despite his short stature.

"Nothing." Kitty hardly looked up. "A seven and a zero, I know that... numerous zeroes, actually..."

John stared at her. "Hello?"

Finally Kitty glanced up, not breaking stride. "My room number," she explained. "I can never remember..."

"As though you needed more proof," said John, sounding irritated. "You're shorter than average. Your hair is an orangish red. You have a bad memory. You're pretty good at Concealment- Invisibility-" he added in response to her look- "for a beginner, and you have the Aura. I can tell- I may be banished but I'm not stupid." He looked disgusted at the very notion.

((gotta go...))

As Kitty stopped to listen at door 07026, footsteps sounded on the marble floor of the hallway. Kitty gave John a tug and pulled him into the door. The room was dark and dusty, and as Kitty's eyes adjusted she saw that it was a storage room for potatoes. A door on the other side of the room connected it to the kitchens. They groped forward silently, feeling for spuds in their way, when suddenly something smacked Kitty's arm. A person! Someone was in there with them! A scream issued forth, but not from Kitty. It sounded distinctly like... Christie?

Christie fainted on the floor. "Second time today fairy, you must be really ugly!"

"I am not ugly!" said John.

"Young and naive, tsk tsk tsk." Kitty laughed. John pouted.

When Christy  awoke a few moments later, the first thing she noticed was that a bag of potatoes was not a very comfortable pillow.

"I'm sorry." The princess' apolgetic face looked down on Christie as the maid awoke. "He's quite an eyesore, isn't he?"

Christie gaped. The princess? A boy with... wings? Potatoes...?

"The princess," said the boy with wings, "is merely being ridiculous." He glared at Kitty. "For the third time today, I might add."

Christie finally found the strength to speak. "You-" she looked at John, "have wings."

John arched his eyebrows, a slightly disconcerting effect. "You don't say." He uprised her and added, "Mortal."

For the umpteenth time Niada cursed her bad luck. Quinn had found her note, he'd even responded, saying he'd be there to meet her at the Oak tree that afternoon. And now he wasn't there! True, she had been a little late, but not late enough for him to give up on her coming. Had he lied then? No, she decided, it could not be. To lie to a princess! Unthinkable. Perhaps, she thought as she paced around the tree, she'd find him and straighten this out. When she reached the stable he was nowhere to be seen. A new thought dawned on her. Perhaps one of the other stableboys had forged the note as a trick! It was possible, she thought angrily. She made her way back to the oak. As she walked around the tree yet again, she strayed farther from the base. Suddenly an odd prickle gripped her. Magic! And what kind? A portal had been here! She could sense it. But why a portal? Only the Fairmage, her father, could create portals. And Quinn... had gone straight into it!

**************************************************

((This may seem a bit confusing, but it shouldn't be too hard to connect loose ends here. John is Quinn. He was partly lying when he said he was banished. The fairmage had wanted him personally (reason unknown) to go check on Kitty, and he didn't want to go (reason unknown). So the Fairmage set a trap to get him there anyway, but I don't know how he knew Quinn would be at that place.))

Niada stroked the air where the portal had been. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and started re-opening it. In her head she could see the portal opening. It was so hard to move! She realized that this would tire her more than anything had for a long time! She reached deep inside to her "inner magic." She remembered her instructor, Sir Linne, telling her what to do. She tried to breath deeply, but she only managed small gasps. She felt the portal grinding open. She was so tired. She fought waves of dizziness. Finally, it was open! She felt as though she had been ripped apart by wild dogs. She realized she couldn't go though today. She slowly dipped into her magical reserves. She cast an invisibility spell on it. That way, no one could find it. As the spell finished, she felt as though she had been slammed to the ground hundreds of times and then ripped apart by wild dogs. She opened her eyes. She saw that she had collapsed. She tried to raise her head. She quivered. Just lifting her head was an extreme effort! She dragged herself through the stable door and collapsed. Burrowing into the sweet hay, hidden to all prying eyes, she blacked out.

When Niada awoke, the first thing she saw was a blazing sunrise. She realized how hungry she was at that moment, to. She brushed aside her hunger, though, and walked back to the portal. She sent an air message to her parents. She set it to apear in paper form that afternoon in her parents bedroom. It read: "Dearest Parents, I have gone into the Other's world after Quinn. He works in our Royal Stables. He might be of no importance to you, but he is ever so important to me! We have planned to run away together. I might come back one day, if you will exept Quinn.  I love you always! ~Niada" ("dnbn yhhfffffr455553" that was my kitten typing...or walking I guess. She says hi! :-) ) And with that, she stepped into the portal, and dissapeared. (gh ,hhh5t63gb733xcy7y.  Amellia says hi again!) (zxsnh89rdmk/+++++++++++++p;lgh=-mn4oaqy7y. And again! She's likes to talk a lot! LOL!)

((Cute cat. :) ))

"What's going on?" Christie demanded. "Why do you have wings? What am I doing in the potato cellar? Why is the princess here?"

John held up a hand. "Stop, mortal. You don't know what you're getting yourself involved in." He glared at Kitty and hissed, "Thanks a lot."

Suddenly Christie's eyes lit up with comprehension. "You're a fairy!" she blurted out.

John snorted and turned to Kitty. "We need to wipe her memory," he mouthed adamantly. "A human with knowledge like this could be treacherous to the entire Fairland!"

"Then why do I know?" Kitty whispered hotly.

"Because YOU'RE not a human!" John burst out. "If you're not going to grasp that, I'm going to have to take you back by force!"

The two girls spoke simultaneously. "Of course Princess Kitty is a human!" / "I thought you said you were banished!"

((too much drama, too many exclamation points...))
