Chatterbox: Inkwell

One hundred years

One hundred years ago, a mysterious rift opened up in Northern Africa, releasing creatures from dimensions untold into this world. These organisms, which later became known as Exofauna, quickly spread across the globe. Underestimated by humanity, they overpowered us, forcing us into major population centers and claiming the Earth as their own.

However, like an immune system adapting to a foreign disease, it seemed the universe provided humanity with a way to combat this new threat. The opening of an interdimensional fissure caused a sudden imbalance of cosmic energy, and humanity changed. People began being born with abilities never before seen in our species. Superpowers, some would call them.

Today, about half of humanity possesses one of these supernatural abilities. Some choose to use them selfishly and for their own personal gain. Others choose to hide them, yearning for the normal life of their ancestors. And others still... choose to fight.

Candrama Institute is the premier location for young souls willing and wishing to use their gifts for the good of Earth and Earthlings. Built high in the Himalayas on the foundations of an ancient shaolin temple, it is headed by the legendary supernatural monk Master Pahada. Password: Rift.

Here, students are trained to defend those who are defenseless, whether it be from the Exofauna or from those who would take advantage of their destructive forces to wreak havoc on the world.

Greetings, and thank you for applying to Candrama Institute. If the results from your prep school are to be believed, and I'm sure they are, then you are more than capable of holding your own at this school. A transport copter will be arriving at your residence shortly to bring you to the institute. Please let us know if you are capable of providing your own transportation. Dress warmly and pack lightly. Good luck.

-Master Pahada

Hi everyone! As promised, here's my Superpower RP. Schools always seem to work well as RP settings, so I couldn't resist. Um... I think the wall of text speaks for itself, so I'll just move on to the charrie sheet:

Name

Age (High school-aged, so 14-18)

Gender

Appearance

Personality

Home Country (It can be anywhere in the word, but I do request they are able to speak English for obvious reasons)

Superpower

Other (non-super) Talents

Weapon of Choice

Background Info

Password

And now, some ground rules:

1. Maximum of 2 characters per person, but no limit to how many people can join. This is technically a school RP after all, so the more the merrier!

2. Concerning the superpowers, please try to be creative. Standard powers like flight, strength, etc. are acceptable, but I don't want everyone to have a generic ability.

3. You knew this was coming, but OP charries are a no-no. There can certainly be some students more skilled than others, but their powers should all be relatively equal at base level.

4. Shipping is absolutely allowed, as long as the other person is okay with it.

5. We're all gonna be in the same class, but at some point charries may be split into smaller teams of 2-3. So if you want to be in a team with someone feel free to ask them.

6. Last but not least: Feel free to add anything you see fit to add to the setting! That includes coming up with background characters, teachers, minor villains, etc. Don't leave everything to me!

Well, that about covers everything. This is kinda info-dense, as my RPs tend to be, so feel free to ask me any questions. I'll post my character(s) (haven't decided whether I'm making 1 or 2 yet) shortly after this goes up. I hope everyone has fun!

Ohh, this is going to be fun.

Korrynn~

Wei runs in another direction and Daniel's hands become claws. Suddenly, as Daniel raises his deadly claws to strike the bone cage, my mind is seized by some malevolent presence, and all goes black, including my eyes. I feel trapped inside my own body, unable to see or control my actions.

Ah, yes. Good Korrynn. Very, very good Korrynn. I like this girl. She will help me a lot. And I think so will this boy. But first I must take care of him. I hunch down low.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." He hesitates and turns at the sound of my voice. As expected, it sounds like Korrynn's voice, but with more than a hint of my roguish malevolence.

"Why not - ohmygoshKorrynnyoureyeswhathaPPENED!!" He shrieks as I pounce on him, and I laugh. The boy doesn't dare claw me for some reason. He just defends against my attacks, my attempts to strangle him until he falls unconscious. He's rather good at it, which is unfortunate at the moment but will be useful in the future. The real Korrynn, the one I currently have under complete control, struggles against my hold on her. She's surprisingly strong, and for a second my vision through my darkly-irised eyes fades. Then, I grow frustrated.

"Korrynn... Korrynn, I know you're there. I know you're in there, and if anybody can fight this... Possession, I know it's you... Korrynn, come back... I lost you for two months, got you back for five minutes, and I don't want to lose you again..." He whispers weakly from under my assaults. "Korrynn... There is something you need to know... Why I've been mourning over your disappearence for the last few months..." I gasp. I see it now. I draw back, and the boy stands up. Korrynn is still. I can feel her struggling to figure it out, even though I already have. I smile wickedly. Oh, this is going to be soooo much fun. I take a step forward, fists clenched and ready to fly. I raise my fists to strike him down. Then, out of nowhere, Korrynn comes roaring back, forcing her way out. Before I retreat back into the further reaches of my hideout, I smirk mysteriously.

I fall to the ground, and so does Daniel. He rushes to me and gathers me in his arms. We sit there for a bit, panting while Daniel rocks us back and forth. Then, he stops rocking and looks me straight in the eyes. They're green again, not black.

"Korrynn..."

"Korrynn I-" I start but am cut off by a bone whizzing past my head. I push her under the cover of a stand from the festival and yell "I'll tell you later!" as I sprint at my attacker, morphing into a full beast as I do.

Korrynn calls after me but I block her out. I've improved a lot since I've last seen her, I now have control over my power most of the time. I slash at the creature's robes and they are torn away, revealing an exofauna. It is a tall, thin skeleton whose black robes are now hanging loosely off of it's back. It reaches its bony hand towards the food vendors and small bones come shooting towards me, piercing my thick hide. I roar in pain and bring my tail down on it, hitting it squarely in the chest and sending it flying. I must not have killed it though since the bones continue to tear at my flesh.

Korrynn~

Daniel throws me aside, only to throw himself into the danger. I jump up right as he roars in pain, bones peircing his monster hide. My own skin turns like his, and I spring to his aid. I've seen these monsters before. Skullshades. The only way to kill then is to break their faces. I chuckle to myself at the way I put it. Break their faces. That was something my friend used to say whenever she hurt her head. She used to say she broke her face. My heart grows cold. That friend abandoned me after I got my powers and all she got was the ability to make people fall in love. She hated it. Said it was useless and stuff. Oh well, she's gone now, and I'm stronger.

One Skullshade is rearranging itself, but the other two notice me. They both make an angry noise like bones rattling, and lunge at me.

STOP YOU FOOLS! THIS IS KORRYNN, MY SERVANT YOU IMBECILES! A voice in my head shouts. The Skullshades stop short, just enough time for me to rip both of their bony masks off and throw them to Daniel. He catches them and attempts to break them with his fangs. It doesn't work. Then, a beam of light blasts through both of the bone masks. Immediately, the skullshades turn to dust. Horatio stands a few meters away, panting with his arms stright out. He has an odd pair of gauntlets on. I smile, but that quickly becomes a snarl.

"Yet another attempted attack on Candrama. And we still don't know why-"

"HOLD UP. KORRYNN, HAVE YOU GOT SOME MAJOR EXPLAINING TO DO."

Sorry for not posting. I'm not letting this die just yet!

Wei~

I reach the control center, a stark silver building about the size of a small warehouse perched on top of a ridge at Candrama's western border. The shimmering surface of the force field becomes more concentrated the closer I get, because this is where it's being generated. And where it can be stopped.

It's quiet. Usually there are at least a pair of chattering guards in front of the entrance. I know he must've gotten past them already, and my suspicions are confirmed when I spot one of them on the ground, leaning against a rock, his face twisted up in a grimace. He's clutching his abnomen, a dark red stain visible through the fabric of his uniform.

"What happened?" I demand, kneeling down in front of him.

"It was... so fast..." the guard groans. "Stop it... you need to stop it in time..." he raises a shaking finger towards the entrance to the building. The doors appear to have been blown clear off their hinges.

"I'll come back to help you, I promise." I nod to the guard, before darting into the center. I run through a maze of halls and staircases, my footsteps echoing through the empty building, until I reach the control panel on the top floor.

There, I see the short figure, a slllouhette against the neon lights of the panel, staring curiously at it. He seems confused, not exactly sure which button to press, but his uncertainty is no reason for me to let my guard down.

"YOU THERE!"

The creature whips around, revealing his true appearance for the first time. His skin is a deathly white, a web of black veins across his face, ram-like horns portruding from his scalp. And his eyes... are pitch black. I recognize those eyes. I've sensed them before.

I expect him to lash out at me, but instead he... sighs?

"Oh, the prodigy. Makes sense that you'd be the one to come after me. What a pest."

"So you know me, do you?" I draw my weapon. "Then I think you'll be pleased to know that you're no stranger to me either, Exohuman."

The creature's eyes reflect pure disbelief for a split second, but are quickly overwritten by a smug grin, revealing razor-sharp teeth. "I'm impressed. How exactly did you manage to find out?"

"I had help from a... reputable source. But I also figured some things out on my own. You're the one who sent the Condors after us back then. You're also responsible for the Skullshades currently terrorizing the village. It's because you can create your own Exofauna. It's how you've been able to attack us from within the campus itself."

The creature laughs, clapping his hands like a delighted child. "How very perceptive you are! Of course, this means I absolutely cannot let you leave this place alive, but since I'm feeling patient, I'll wait until I've finished my mission before I take care of you."

The creature turns back around, and without warning, lunges toward an important-looking yellow button. I cry out, diving to stop him as he presses it.

But it doesn't matter.

It's the wrong button. A familiar popping noise sounds above us.

The creature loses his composure for a moment, his head darting about like a nervous dog. "What happened? Did it work?" I hear him mutter to himself.

I cross my arms. "That was a distress flare, my friend. You've just called in backup. For me."

"Well, I suppose that means I'll have to end things all the more quickly, doesn't it?"

I can barely register what happens next, but the creature's fingers, black, claw-like things, seem to almost sharpen into knives and extend out at me like a striking cobra. It's only thanks to my sharpened reflexes that I'm able to dodge it.

The creature retracts his fingers, an almost pouty look on his face. He may possess great power, but he clearly isn't sure exactly how to use it. Although it's exactly how much power he has that puzzles me. I thought his power was Exofauna creation. Could it be... he has more than one?

I rise from my crouched stance. "That was an interesting trick. Mind telling me how you did it?"

The creature snarls with contempt. "I overestimated you, pest. You don't truly understand us after all. Well, I'd hate for you to die by a stranger's hands, so allow me to introduce myself. My name is J-5, and I was made with the DNA of one Exofauana and five very generous humans. I'd thank them for their donation, but of course they're all dead now."

"You have... five powers?"

"Yes, I know, it's tragic how weak I am. Some of my older siblings have dozens of powers, but I'm afraid jealousy won't change my status as runt of the litter."

The confusion racing through me begins to mix with blind rage, rage toward whoever is responsible for this, and whatever it is they intend to achieve.

I grip my whip tightly, my knuckles turning white under the pressure. "How many humans have been killed? How many of you are there?"

"That's confidential, but we're always looking for more. So thanks for volunteering!"

J-5 shoots his knife-fingers out at me again, and our skirmish continues.
