Chatterbox: Inkwell

One hundred years

One hundred years ago, a mysterious rift opened up in Northern Africa, releasing creatures from dimensions untold into this world. These organisms, which later became known as Exofauna, quickly spread across the globe. Underestimated by humanity, they overpowered us, forcing us into major population centers and claiming the Earth as their own.

However, like an immune system adapting to a foreign disease, it seemed the universe provided humanity with a way to combat this new threat. The opening of an interdimensional fissure caused a sudden imbalance of cosmic energy, and humanity changed. People began being born with abilities never before seen in our species. Superpowers, some would call them.

Today, about half of humanity possesses one of these supernatural abilities. Some choose to use them selfishly and for their own personal gain. Others choose to hide them, yearning for the normal life of their ancestors. And others still... choose to fight.

Candrama Institute is the premier location for young souls willing and wishing to use their gifts for the good of Earth and Earthlings. Built high in the Himalayas on the foundations of an ancient shaolin temple, it is headed by the legendary supernatural monk Master Pahada. Password: Rift.

Here, students are trained to defend those who are defenseless, whether it be from the Exofauna or from those who would take advantage of their destructive forces to wreak havoc on the world.

~~~
Greetings, and thank you for applying to Candrama Institute. If the results from your prep school are to be believed, and I'm sure they are, then you are more than capable of holding your own at this school. A transport copter will be arriving at your residence shortly to bring you to the institute. Please let us know if you are capable of providing your own transportation. Dress warmly and pack lightly. Good luck.
-Master Pahada
Hi everyone! As promised, here's my Superpower RP. Schools always seem to work well as RP settings, so I couldn't resist. Um... I think the wall of text speaks for itself, so I'll just move on to the charrie sheet:
Name
Age (High school-aged, so 14-18)
Gender
Appearance
Personality
Home Country (It can be anywhere in the word, but I do request they are able to speak English for obvious reasons)
Superpower
Other (non-super) Talents
Weapon of Choice
Background Info
Password
And now, some ground rules:
1. Maximum of 2 characters per person, but no limit to how many people can join. This is technically a school RP after all, so the more the merrier!
2. Concerning the superpowers, please try to be creative. Standard powers like flight, strength, etc. are acceptable, but I don't want everyone to have a generic ability.
3. You knew this was coming, but OP charries are a no-no. There can certainly be some students more skilled than others, but their powers should all be relatively equal at base level.
4. Shipping is absolutely allowed, as long as the other person is okay with it.
5. We're all gonna be in the same class, but at some point charries may be split into smaller teams of 2-3. So if you want to be in a team with someone feel free to ask them.
6. Last but not least: Feel free to add anything you see fit to add to the setting! That includes coming up with background characters, teachers, minor villains, etc. Don't leave everything to me!
Well, that about covers everything. This is kinda info-dense, as my RPs tend to be, so feel free to ask me any questions. I'll post my character(s) (haven't decided whether I'm making 1 or 2 yet) shortly after this goes up. I hope everyone has fun!
Rouge, I can understand that you're enthusiastic about the story and want to write more- I am too!- just make sure you let others get a chance to write as well. An RP isn't as much fun when one person posts more than the others because they often end up accidentally controlling the story. On the bright side, it does mean you're a reliable RPer, so if the RP starts to slip down the Inkwell you're a very good person to have around! But right now the story is active, so make sure you're letting others have a chance to write as well.
Also, @Neko, Ripley uses they and them, not she and her. Thanks for understanding!
Eryn~
"First year students! Report to your homerooms immediately for dorm assignments! Crimson in 100, Leopard in 200, Everest in 300! Let's move, move, move, you weaklings!" I almost jump out of my skin when a man bellows this, the grab my suitcase, assuming I'm supposed to bring it with me. I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn around. I see a kid with curly auburn hair and a confused expression on their face.
"Hey, do you know what's going on?" they ask. "Where are we supposed to be going?"
"Weren't you listening?" I ask, wondering how anyone could have missed the loud announcement that had just been made. "We're going to homeroom. They'll probably tell us what to do when we get there." They still look confused, so I add, "Y'know? Homeroom? I'm in class Everest, so I'm room 300."
"Oh!" They seem to finally get it. "They were room numbers! I'm Ripley. What's your name?"
"Eryn. Isn't this exciting? It's so pretty here! And we get to use our powers!" Ripley nods in agreement, and we set off together to find room 300. Really, we just followed everyone else. Room 300 turned out to be on the fifth floor of the pagoda, and my suitcase seemed to get heavier and heavier with each flight of stairs. When we finally reach our classroom, I drop into a seat. Then, of course, I realize that there's a seating chart at the front of the room. I move to the correct seat and wave to Ripley, since we're across the room from each other. A woman enters the room and tells us all to take our seats. I can't help but shake the feeling that she looks familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. Then, someone says,
"Hey, aren't you Mute Button? The superhero?" That's why she seems familiar! She confirms this, then tells us all to call her Ms. Cortez. She passes out maps and schedules, and I scan over mine, trying to get a feel for the layout of the school. She informs us that we'll have to cook, which puts a bit of a damper on my good mood. I don't mind cooking, but I'm rubbish at it. Needless to say, when another girl says she'll do the cooking for anyone who can't, I'm quite relieved. Then, Ripley speaks up.
"Do you think the rest of us are imbeciles? You're certainly not  the only one who can cook."
"Excuse me," the British girl replies heatedly, "that is not what I said. I simply wanted people to know who to ask! So don't you put words in my mouth." She surveys them for a moment, then adds, "You're probably just disappointed she's not giving us that cave and raw steak." Ripley replies,
"Just because I didn't grow up in some fancy little city doesn't mean you're more important than me! My clothes might not be as posh as yours, but I've every right to be here." I'm about to speak up and try to calm the situation down, even though I want to defend my new friend, but a ringing voice behind me makes me jump.
"Miss Jones," says a boy with dark hair. I recognize him from earlier. "It would be an honor to share a floor with you. As my daily meditation demands a certain level of quiet, we have a common interest at hand." The British girl, whom I'm assuming is 'Miss Jones' replies,
"Oh, um, thanks? May I ask how you knew my name?"
"Seating chart," the boy answers.
"Oh, right. Well, Marilyn is fine. No need for 'Miss'." The boy bows, then sits back down. I find this all a little strange, and I see some people are whispering to each other. I walk over to a girl who is standing alone and looks a little uncomfortable. She has curly brown hair and pretty blue eyes.
"Hi!" I say, then search for what to say next. "Um... I'm Eryn. What's your name?"
"Ayelet," she says. I grin.
"Cool! That's a really pretty name. It's nice to meet you. Most people seem pretty friendly here, don't they?"
"Yeah," she says. "Most of them."
"Do you want to see if we can get rooms on the same floor?" I ask. "That is, if you don't mind all my talking." I am kind of rambling, but that tends to happen. Ayelet smiles.
"Sure, that'd be great!"
"Great!" I say. "Have you met any other people yet?"
Vivian
~~~

A week into the school year, and Vivian had arrived. She was surely a late arrival. By now, most of the others would already be accustomed to the school. She sighed, grabbed her pink barrel sports bag, retied her pink converse, and started walking toward the school. What she immediately noticed was that everyone else was wearing, or holding a blue jacket. "Oh, right."

Vivian took out her jacket, and tied it around her waist, stuffing her bomber jacket back into the sports bag. Time to go in. Time to meet everyone.

Hi! I'm happy you're interested in the RP, but for simplicity's sake, could we have Vivian start school at the same time as everyone else? It's just that we haven't even finished our first school day yet, so a one week time skip would only make things more confusing.

Also, we've already establisehd that our class (Everest) has 15 students in it, so maybe Vivian could be in one of the other classes? I was planning on having an initiation test (probs an obstacle course) on our second school day, which would include all the first year classes in it, so Vivian would still be able to interact with everyone else's charries.

Thanks in advance!

Erg. Changing Korrynn's weapon of choice to 'Twin rifles'. She carries them both in an 'X' across her back, easily pulled into position from over her head. She also has two pistols in her belt, but for finesse's sake she likes to use the rifles, preferably at the same time 'cause it looks cool. Kinda like a Charlie's Angel. Look them up.

Sorry guys I'm having writer's block.

Ayelet~

After I enter the school, a man who's power must have something to do with strength passive-aggresively tells us to go to class. I'm in room 300, which, weirdly enough, seems to be on the 3rd floor, I realize after wandering aimlessly on the 3rd floor and then finally checking my map.

As a result, I arrive a little late, just as someone says in a British accent, "Hey, aren't you Mute Button? The superhero?" In startled amazement, I whip my head around to stare at my teacher, who sure enough, is the famous superhero Mute Button. Mute Button is my teacher. Even though I knew this kind of thing would happen, was exited for it, even, it feels a little surreal to see her, in person, adressing me, instead of saving people in a video clip on a holoscreen. I goggle at her as she tells is to call her Ms. Cortez.

"There are fourteen other people you will share all of your classes with for the next four months." There's one of my questions answered. "Now, I'm not one for icebreaking activities, but I suggest you get to know some of them." Ms. Cortez begins handing out papers from a stack on her desk. "What I'm passing out right now is your official class schedule and a map of the campus. Everest students will be rooming in the Sagarmatha Building, the easternmost pagoda in this complex. On the first floor, you will find a lounge area, as well as a kitchen stocked with every ingredient an aspiring chef could want."

She continues to explain and passes out booklets full of information I already know. I flip through them anyway, only half-listening to some students getting into an argument about... cooking? Did I mishear? I thought my English was good, but maybe I should have studied more. I stand awkwardly as Little Lin, as I've mentally dubbed him (I would never say that in real life, it just makes it easier to remember him,) interrupts the cooking debate.

A pretty girl in a brown baseball cap walks up to me. "Hi!" she says, and then pauses, evidently trying to think of something to say. I open my mouth to try to break the yawning awkward silence, but she says, "Um... I'm Eryn. What's your name?"

Glad for something to say, I answer, "Ayelet."

"Cool! That's a really pretty name. It's nice to meet you. Most people seem pretty friendly here, don't they?"

I blush a little. Why can't I take a compliment from this girl? "Yeah," I respond, "Most of them."

"Do you want to see if we can get rooms on the same floor?" Eryn asks. "That is, if you don't mind all my talking." She blushes a little, and I decide I like this girl. I smile a little.

"Sure, that'd be great."

"Great," she says, also grinning a bit, "Have you met any other people yet?"

"Not really," I say, but then look around. "I mean those twins and that angry-looking guy were on my helicopter, but that's it." I say, unsure of how to wrap up my sentance. "Ehm, would you mind if our room was on the first floor? Closest to the ground?" Eryn looks confused, so I say quickly, "I like to be closest to the ground. Because of my power."

A look of understand flashes over her features. "Oh. Cool. What is your power?"

"Crystals," I say; it is a word I know well. Instead of explaining further, I carefully feel for one of my little handmade crystal necklaces. Slowly, I move the crystal of of the necklace, so that it's floating in the air in front of me. It's small and blue, perfectly, painstakingly, carved. I stretch it out, change it's shape, let it gently change from blue to purple to pink. I feel it wanting to grow bigger, to take over the room, to multiply. As I start thinking about this, it begons to grow, faster than I want it to, so I quickly shrink it back down and reattatch it. I smile embarrasedly at her. "I don't have very much control yet. What is your power?"

Eryn grins, and pulls out a hand mirror.

Ships are fun! I think Ayelet's English isn't as good as she hoped. Maybe Eryn can help her :)

Rainey~

I turn back to Millie just as a man who appears to be carved out of rock steps on to a platform above the rest of us.

"FIRST YEAR STUDENTS," he bellows. "REPORT TO YOUR HOMEROOMS IMMEDIATELY FOR DORM ASSIGNMENTS! CRIMSON IN 100, LEOPARD IN 200, EVEREST IN 300! LET'S MOVE, MOVE, MOVE YOU WEAKLINGS!"

I'm a bit startled by the sheer magnitude of his voice, but I readjust my grip on my bags and start to walk with the crowd.

"See you in homeroom," I say over my shoulder to Horatio.

Millie has already consulted her map of the school and so I follow her to a flight of stairs that other people seem to be heading towards as well. I see the people that we were on the helicopter with and wonder if they will be in Everest with us.

I turn to Millie as we are walking up the second flight of stairs.

"It felt so cool to just use my power out in public like that," I say, relishing in the memory. "I think it's going to be hard to get used to."

Millie snorts. "You didn't seem to have any trouble showing off for that guy."

I blush slightly. "Hey, you can't blame me. He was cute."

Millie gives an exasperated sigh, but I can see that she smiles.

Finally we reach room 300. I never knew that a single building could contain so many stairs, but I know that I will just have to get used to it. I doubt that they had escalators, and they probably thought that trudging up a million steps each day would build our powers.

The rest of the class files in, and once we are all seated a woman appears in the front of the room. I turn to Millie and see my surprise mirrored on her face, as the woman did not seem to come in from any door.

The woman begins to speak, but she doesn't get very far before she is interrupted.

"Hey, aren't you Mute Button? The super hero?"

I gasp, kicking myself for not realizing it before. The woman looked exactly like the hero that I had seen regularly on Holo screens, minus the mask and suit.

Mute Button acknowledges that it is indeed her and then asks us to call her Ms. Cortez. I find it hard to think that I will be calling an actually super hero by Ms. Cortez, but it looks like I will just have to get used to it.

Ms. Cortez continues to talk, telling us about our dorms and the kitchen. It seems as if we will have to fend for ourselves in the food department, but I'm not worried. Millie was a pretty good cook, and I wasn't too bad, so between the two of us I didn't think we would starve.

She finishes up by saying that we have the rest of the day to explore and that initiation will begin tomorrow morning. I have to admit, I'm a little nervous at the thought of having to perform a test of skill. Millie and my's power was cool, but I didn't see how it would help us fight exofauna.

Ms. Cortez leaves the room, and immediately a girl stands up.

"I'll have you know I'll be doing the cooking for everyone who can't," she says in a British accent that reminds me of girls from our boarding school. "And I'd prefer to be on the floor with quiet people."

Well, that floor would  not include me.

I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn to see Horatio.

"Hey," he whispers as the British girl and another girl proceed to get in an argument. "You and your sister will join me on the not-quiet floor, right? My guitar music in notorious, and it's not because I know how to play softly."

I catch Millie's eye, silently asking her opinion. She nods slightly and starts to study the pamphlet that Ms. Cortez handed out.

I turn back to Horatio. "Definitely," I whisper, then smile. Maybe I'll enjoy Candrama after all.

Vivian

~~~
So . . . nervous. Class Fuji was in the basement for some reason, and Vivian was feeling a little claustrophobic. She had nothing against small spaces, just that the basement was making her feel restrained. She hated that.
Out of old habit, she split into two, then four, than eight as she walked. Vivian sighed. The clones disappeared, and she kept walking. Nerves!
She walked into the classroom. It was perfectly normal, with a projector, and random posters of famous vigilantes around the room. Nobody was here yet. She looked around for the teacher, and realized, with quite a shock, that the teacher was really, really short. His head popped up from behind the desk. He resembled a tiny elf.
The teacher clambered onto his stool, and opened a tiny chromebook. "Hello miss! You seem to be the only punctual one!"
He sounded like one of those teachers who's subject is their whole life. "I guess Mr . . ."
"Mr. McIntosh."
I can't write write a proper post right now, but there's just some things I'd like to clarify so we're all on the same page.
So it seemed like there was some confusion about what happened after Ms. Cortez left the classroom. Let's just say, after the students decided on their dorms (and stopped arguing), they went to check out the dorm building, and then some of them started to prepare dinner for the class.
Official Sagarmatha Building Floor Plan™:
Floor 1- Common area + kitchen
Floor 2- The quiet floor: Dariya, Marilyn, Wei, Korrynn, Daniel
Floor 3- The neutral floor, I guess?  Ripley, Ryan, Tova, Katrina, Maxwell
Floor 4- The not-so-quiet floor: Horatio, Rainey, Millie, Eryn, Ayelet
Vivian will not be able to join us until initiation, as I mentioned earlier. But if you want, Insomniactic, you can make some NPC students to be in her class.
